The 30 seconds Freddie Mercury was on screen was better than 90% of live concerts......

Bohemian Rhapsody was probably the best live song I've ever heard.

Give Lambert credit too; really fantastic. And nice how open they are that he's not trying to be Freddie

    Fantastic gig

The Darkenss played a short but blinding set. It's a pity they never really took off as expected after Permission to land (they were very big back around 2003/2004).

Didn't really listen to much Boomtown Rats or saw much footage of them live before today but my god they were better than I ever expected. Bob was running around the stage like a lunatic and I personally didnt expect that

Queen were amazing as expected, slightly different set than last November. Lambert is a great front man. I didn't think the stage set up would suite an outdoor show but it was good. Quite emotional during the Freddie bit for Love of my Life

Few small things like the angle of the stage (wasant Metallicas stage facing the house ??), tall people and extremely drunk people but u get that at every gig. Heineken is not a nice pint

Well that was an absolutely fantastic couple of hours. Sent a clip of Killer Queen onto my Dad and his response was "wow that guy has a voice". Thought Adam Lambert was brilliant, flamboyant, a showman and a blinding singer.

Went off for food while Bob was on cos I'm. Just not a fan, Darkness were deadly too. Was a big fan of permission to land but never followed them after that but would definitely go to one of their gigs after tonight.

When the missus told me how much she had paid for the tickets i was shocked. After tonight, it was worth every penny. The two videos with Freddie on screen were a lovely touch too.

    Great night, great gig.

Also, never thought I'd see the English national anthem being cheered and applauded in a field in Dublin :pac:

    lads.... queen... wow.

Adam lambert is not freddy. he knows that too. thats the important factor.... they were phenomenal. what a fooking set.

    Amazing gig...

Seen Brian various times, seen himself and Roger with Paul Rodgers...All great gigs!

Nearly 200 gigs and have only ever got tears in my eyes once before at a gig...Tonight, I started getting emotional during Play The Game, Love Of My Life, Last Horizon and the Freddie clip...

  • Registered Users Posts: 925 ✭✭✭angel eyes 2012

I was emotional too, it was amazing. AL has such a presence, combined with BM & RT they really pulled it off. Great crowd too and Marlay Park was well organised and perfect setting for the day in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,448 ✭✭✭Mrs Shuttleworth

That was almost a religious experience. I had to put my shades on to conceal my tears at certain moments.

Lambert is outstanding - an old skool frontman with a mix of brash sexuality and femininity.

    Boomtown Rats were spectacular also.

    Gig of the Year.

How come the rats are not as popular here than in other places ???

Anybody know how many people were at the gig? Marlay Park was a lovely venue, it's just getting out of there on a Sunday night that's a problem.

Nice to see Brian May and Roger Taylor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,677 ✭✭✭Zwillinge

Wasn't expecting too much from this gig.
Figured Brian May would be good to see.

That whole gig blew me away in every way. Was a fantastic show.

And Adam, hell, he knows who he is and he knows how big those shoes are too fill. He does a phenomenal job! To even take on Under Pressure - had me a little emosh.

I've never liked Marley Park as a venue, but it worked well last night. Maybe cause not so crowded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,889 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Cause Marlay Park is so large can they move the stage around depending on expected numbers ???

What's happens there normally, large grounds ??

I think the Darkness layed out there stage a little wrong ? Those tube things over the lights blocked the view if u were in the middle ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,055 ✭✭✭xpletiv

Well the haze has dissipated and Im left with the hangover... but still, what a gig. Have some tunes on in the office today. Think I sang every word, the voice is not working so well today...

I cant even pick the highlight songs; every one was a blinder. Brian May had some classy outfits too :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,479 ✭✭✭Kamili

I quite enjoyed the Darkness - pity they weren't on long though. Geldof's comment on How Long does it take to get from Dub Laoghaire to Marlay Park - 40 years made me chuckle. I've never been a mad fan of the Boomtown Rats, but Geldof rally got the crowd going, excellent performance.

As For Adam Lambert, what a performance, he does have massive boots to fill, but by gosh did he fill em! He was just pure class and owned that stage.

I loved the Selfie Stick section with May, that was such a nice touch.

    Because Bob Geldof

Had a drink too many last night, paying for it now but worth every minute. Very glad I got to see them outdoors. Hopefully not the last we will see of them!

Wasn't overly impressed with The Darkness to be honest,The Rats were better than I had expected and I went with the anticipation of feeling the complete opposite,as said already, I loved his how long does it take to get from Dun Laoighre to Marley Park and the "Techno" at the end was a surprise unless its 30 years old and I just never heard it.

A guy in front of me slept through the whole of the darkness and the rats, brought the kids and my 11 year old daughter loved it and she's a Niall Horan fan :)
Would love to see them with the foo fighters supporting and I think Lambert is a once in a generation artist with the kind of talent to be able to substitute(won't say replace) for Freddie, others have mentioned being emotional and I thought more so than november in the 3 arena.

Overall great gig, will they ever be around again I wonder ?

Only ever heard Mondays and Rat trap from the Rats and now have added a few more tracks to my playlist after yesterday

Would love to see a tour with the Foos and Queen playing together but prob won't happen

Hard to knw when they will be back next and with the Bohemian Rhapsody movie coming out in Oct they might get another popularity boost and tour again in 2019/2020. Seen them twice now so not sure would I go again if it's the same setlist next time around ?

Well that gig was just superb. May, Taylor and of course Lambert were simply outstanding. Even the Boomtown Rats, whom I wasn't expecting to enjoy, hit it out of the park.

I cried like a baby during the 'Love of my Life' segment and looking around, I wasn't the only one touched by that poignant tribute to the great Freddy.

One gig where I wished I could have rewound time and enjoyed it all over again as soon as it finished.

Someone recorded the entire show on their phone and uploaded it here https://www.adamlambertlive.org/live-queen-adam-lambert-dublin-ireland-7-8-18/

Full audio stream of the show here too http://mixlr.com/muffilepardskin/showreel/

I have to say Play The Game was the highlight for me, along with a very emotional The Show Must Go On. TSMGO is my all time favourite Queen song, and to see it performed so well live in the flesh was bone chilling. I felt the same for Play The Game. Seeing them play that one just brought back discovering Queen's great tunes for the first time as a kid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,448 ✭✭✭Mrs Shuttleworth

I like Queen but wouldn't have been a "fan" and only bought the ticket late Saturday night to cross them off the bucket list.

I couldn't get over how amazing those songs sound when played in what appeared to be quadrophonic sound. Everything sounded so fresh and new and majestic.

It was so much more than the sum of its parts, bordering on eerie in a good way.

The sky opened, the Gods of rock spoke to us, and departed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭horseburger

I thought Brian May playing the beginning of Taste's Morning Sun, was a nice tribute to Rory Gallagher.

Brian May speaks about Taste on the Eagle Rock documentary about the band.

Lads, I really loved the gig from start to finish.

I got desperate flashbacks of horrendous queuing issues queuing issues at the last Longitude I was at on the way in. (Think it took us well over an hour!) but was pleasantly surprised. No major queues. No teenagers necking back vodka falling all over the place at the entrance. All very relaxed.

Missed the Darkness as I was a bit late getting there, but was surprised at how good the Rats were. I've seen them at a few gigs over the years and was never overly impressed. Bob was on fire... crowd loved it.

Then the main event. I was blown away! Sang and danced my heart out with my pals from start to finish. (Sorry to those who had to put up with us!!) The sage set up, the lights and the sound were all right up there with the best I have ever seen.

Brian and Rodger seemed to really enjoy it. Adam Lambert was just the right amount of energetic and outrageous with perfect vocals but without trying to actually be Freddie. Got nostalgic and a bit of a tear in my eye for Love of my life and Under Pressure. And oh, what a response from the crowd for Bohemian Rhapsody!

Loved how much the crowd sang on the way out of Marlay, a reflection of how much they enjoyed the gig.

I've avoided going to see Queen, as I always thought there was no point without Freddie... I've clearly missed out! Hope they come back again soon or do a few festivals... Maybe Glasto 2019?!

Really enjoyed the gig. Thought it was excellent. Saw them in RDS in 84 and Slane but can I ask did anyone else think that the sound although decent was relatively low. Especially Brian’s guitar which I was hoping would have been quite raucous but was really just there.

Didn’t beat the sound quality of the Roger Waters gig in the 3 a couple of weeks ago whatever he does it sounds amazing. Best sound at a gig I’ve ever heard and I was right at the back.

You're comparing an indoor arena where the sound will bounce around off the walls to a big outdoor gig where the sound will just carry. Sounded perfect to me anyway.

Marlay is in a highly residential area, so they can't blast the sound out as they would in a indoor arena, though I didn't notice anything bad about the sound myself, heard everything perfectly.

Indoors will always be better than outdoors.

Having said that, thought the sound was perfect on Sunday. Maybe not as loud as they usually are but, sound restrictions etc come into play

I thought the sound in Marlay was dead on. I was also at Roger Waters.

I think Queen were using a quadraphonic sound system same as Roger Waters. The whole atmosphere and sense of place goes up at any gig using that set up. ACDC used it in Punchestown 2009 one of the greatest gigs ever seen here.

I could hear every line Adam Lambert sung and every note Brian May played. Any louder and distortion would have killed the multi channel effect they were going for.

What a gig, I can't stop thinking about it.

I wonder if this is the road Linkin Park will go down, I don't follow Queen but it wouldn't have been good if they let the music die with Mercury.

I think they will and also Audioslave/Soundgarden when that 90s grunge rock sound eventually resurfaces. The timing has to be right.

Paul Rodgers and George Michael all sang Queen songs post Freddie perfectly fine, but from a nostalgic and retroactively respectful perspective to Freddie.

Adam Lambert on the other hand tore into them as if they were his own and dressed as if he'd walked off the set of Flash Gordon.

To be honest, of all of them, I always found their stuff with Paul Rodgers hard to listen to. Hearing him sing The Show Must Go On was like forks on a plate

Adam Lambert on the other hand tore into them as if they were his own and dressed as if he'd walked off the set of Flash Gordon.

Just to pick you up on this, after the gig I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole and watched loads of interviews with Q&AL and Adam said that before beginning to rehearse for the tours, he asked Brian and Roger to record the music of each of the songs again, he got the music book (don't know the proper name!) and went off and rehearsed the songs himself, without listening to the Freddie vocals or watching videos back.

I was so impressed by this approach as it just goes to show how respectful he is of Freddie's legacy, he didn't want to imitate him, but rather perform the songs in his own way. He genuinely is a huge Queen fan also, so I'd say he is pinching himself every day that he got the gig.

Genuinely had one of the best nights of my life at Marlay Park and selfishly hope they come back to Ireland again soon. Absolutely astounding performances from all of them and I am still on a high.
