Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

thanks yes I saw that on the menu alright - the salad on offer for tomorrow/fri wouldn't be my cuppa.. will keep an eye on their website though as I know the menu changes regularly

They've recently moved from posting the specials on twitter, to just tweeting the link to the menu instead.

Which I think is poor marketing. Seeing the specials as you scroll through your timeline is far more inviting.

Nice one. Do you know if you can change the order by leaving messages in the order page?

Would love to order the Reuben without cheese (I know, people will likely say that's not a Reuben..) but don't want to order if they don't/can't customise the sandwiches.

Yes, there is a box for adding a message on the last page of the order form. I expect that's what it's for... dietary restrictions etc.

Thanks for the recommendations for Sonny's Deli. My God, those sandwiches are substantial.. just hefting them out of the bag and you know you've taken on a challenge. Very tasty; and staff very nice too.

Busy but fast-moving while I was there. Impressive given it's a little bit off the beaten track (though very convenient for me).

Tried Uncle Petes for the first time, got a really disappointing lasagna with very very little meat in it.

Can't understand how Uncle Petes still exists. Had almost as bad a meal as Cornstore in there a while back and never returned. Horrendous place.

If you're getting Italian food, go to Da Mirco or one of the real Italian pizza places?

Genuine question, Has the cornstore improved/changed hands in recent years?

I thought it was very good last time I was there (July/August 2020). Food and service was great and they seemed to be taking the Covid precautions more seriously than a lot of other places.

I’ve seen people queueing closer together with less social distancing in Boots and Tesco’s.
There was also little to no anti social behaviour reported at the time, there was a heavy Garda presence in town on those nights and most people just enjoyed a few quiet drinks with friends and were home early. I used to pass on my walks and never saw anyone falling around the place drunk or causing trouble.
The Gardaí never intervened because people were behaving themselves.

I saw similar scenes with groups and families getting takeaway coffees and food in town just yesterday afternoon, sitting on the bollards chatting, but that doesn’t attract any vitriol and is considered socially acceptable (even though it’s also breaking the rules) because alcohol isn’t involved.

My only criticism would be that they did leave litter and rubbish after themselves, the establishments selling the takeaway drinks should have organised a proper clean up effort to sort out the mess left behind.

I wasn’t aware of that, neither was I there at the precise moment when that was taken.

I can only comment on what I happened to observe when I was in there and that was no queues outside, the tables/booths all spaced out and properly cleaned and staff wearing their masks/visors.

Not sure if you can sit down these days, but I think Soma is the best coffee in town. They are on Tuckey St and now also on Anglesea St.

I see that Soma on Tuckey Street have been ordered to close for food safety reasons.

But good coffee. I also like 3 Fools nearby on Grand Parade.

Past tense needed here, also should provide some context & back up as stating they "have been ordered" to close could be damaging for their reputation.

They were ordered to close temporarily in early Feb, and reopened the next day.

A mouse had made its way on premises through a pipe. The owner says the HSE were understanding.

Tried Koto at the weekend, was delicious. Have been eating takeaway during lockdown (and can't cook Thai) so it was my first Thai in over a year; so I might not have been the most impartial of judges! Tasty cheesecake for dessert too (though portion was fairly small). Definitely trying again at the weekend.

Any nice restaurants doing takeaway today?
A lot of them seem to be weekends only.

Got a takeaway from Sober Lane at the weekend. Great deal - 2 mains, 2 desserts and (most important! :p) 4 cocktails for €50. Everything was very tasty. Will definitely be getting it again.

Got the bistro in the box from Suttons in Rochestown park hotel over the weekend . Little bit expensive but a nice treat, well organised and food was tasty. Will try it again in a month i think and i got a €10 voucher for signing up to their online mailing list for it.

    Arancini
    Langos with Shredded Pork
    Empanadas

Edit: That was between 3 people & it was a good amount.

Desserts were good, too sweet for my taste.

As you are at arthur maynes you should add Orso's chicken schwarma flatbread into the rota!
I had said it several times in the old thread but I love it.

Apologies if someone already asked this but are Sonny’s deli available for walk in takeaways or do you have to order online the day before?

Pretty sure you can just walk up. There's a queue to the main door for walk-in and a separate small hatch on Albert St. for click 'n' collect. Selection might be more limited though if just walking up.

Just had a bizarre experience at O'Briens food truck in Carrigrohane. Ordered and paid online at 18:30, the app said it would be ready at 18:45. Arrived and was told that the order didnt come though and we would have to place it again. I should have just walked away at that point but I had paid in advance. Waited outside in the freezing cold for 45 minutes as there was no indication of when the order would be ready. The person I dealt with was pretty unapproachable and was shouting at the other staff and at customers down the phone and I was afraid to sit in the car incase I missed it. The place was total chaos, three people who walked up after me and ordered got their food before me. The queuing system was non existent and quite unsafe with cars at the pumps getting blocked by people standing waiting for food. When we got back with the order, the pizza was undercooked inedible sludge and went straight in the bin. The chips were seriously undercooked and could only be salvaged by another ten minutes of cooking in the airfryer. I ordered fish gougons and was given chicken gougons and my partners burger was also wrong. An experience I will never repeat.

Went for Eat Street recently, an order for two. Unfortunately it was a poor experience!

Firstly they left one burger out completely... Only discovered that when I got home! They also left out all the dips that I chose with the chips.

The one burger we got was quite good, but the chips were only OK. They are the massive cut potato type chips but too big I thought. Way too much salt on them also.

Had a takeaway from O Reillys Food Truck also. Agree with the comments above, that it's a bit of a disappointment. The staff seem like they fancy themselves a bit too much! Then hanging around waiting for a late order on a forecourt isn't the best.

    Food was OK.

@sporina - Someone called to complain about an order while I was waiting and they didn't seem to be too bothered. I have zero interest in going back for more, even if the food was cooked properly it would have been middle of the road at best.

Follow up to the O'Reillys food truck experience. Just got a call there from the owner who was asked to call me by the lad who was working the till last night. He was aware of the messed up order and the delay and I informed him about the order also being incorrect and undercooked. He apologised and offered a gift voucher for pickup at the till in the shop. Very decent of him to follow up....looks like I will be giving them a second chance after all 😂 watch this space for the gift voucher review!

Had the Da Mirco Mothers Day Feast this weekend. It was excellent.

A selection of cold canapés to start. Very tasty and no preparing in it - the highlight being Beef Bresaola stuffed with lemon and ricotta, That was savage. The rest was lovely as well.

Main course was a seafood lasagna that was incredible. Very large portion (some would say too large, I wouldn't). The amount of seafood was obscene. Mussels, clams and white fish pouring out of every orifice of the lasagna. A simple béchamel sauce that left the seas food shine. It was lovely.

A white chocolate and limo cello "Tiramisu" for dessert which was delicious also. Love the idea of tiramisu but don't like coffee in deserts so this was perfect.

€50 for two. Would highly recommend. Great value for what you get. Definitely the easiest click and collect meal to prepare as well.

€9.50 on deliveroo which is standard practice of jacking up prices on it from what I've seen.

What was involved in the click and collect here? Reheat in oven, or would microwave work?
