Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    2 gone..this could get embarrassing

Bad shot but a very good catch. Dreadful shot it was a poor delivery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Optimism draining away fast now :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Two wickets no real biggie but two wickets and a run rate of just 2.4 after 7 overs is ominous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

No answers for David Willey today either so far. 2-6 off his four overs.

Brilliant spell, line, length, variations and late swing.

Absolutely ridiculous getting out to James Vince, Ireland are not international standard. The team 10 years ago was, but nothing coming through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

    WICKET
    O'Brien b Rashid 3 (Ire 44-4)

Steady stream of wickets and a really low run rate, not looking good guys and gals :(

Poor shot, a pity, Tector had played well and looked set for a good score.

Wonder did he get a bit distracted by Rachid and his acting the few mins leading up to his dismissal.

Beeb sums it up well "Eurgh":
    WICKET
    Tector c Mahmood b Rashid 28 (Ire 78-5)

    Eurgh.

What a soft dismissal. Harry Tector, feeling a touch bogged down, skips down the track, trying to loft Adil Rashid over the top. What he ends up doing is guiding the ball straight to Saqib Mahmood at mid-off. Sigh.

    Ughhhh

Looks like we'll be lucky to pass 200 here, we need a solid stand from these 2 so we can accelerate towards the end.....

That’s a terrible shot. 6 down. Thinking Ireland would bite your hand off for a score of 250 here and now. 200 is optimistic, now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

In the worst shot of the day competition, Tucker has taken the lead, hard to figure what he was at.

    1 wouldn't be confident of making 130

Not a fan of Rachid as a sportsman.. he’s seen the batsman move a couple of times ahead of the ball being bowled and pulled out of the delivery... umpires need to be stronger and get him to stop fûcking around. He did this prior to the delivery that got him his last wicket.

Can't help feel a bit sorry for Niall Obrien

Maybe we need to take a step back and accept that it's 5 months without cricket and we are in transition

Some of the older lads will be embarrassed no doubt about it

Ach! Looking desperate, anytime we get some momentum going we gift another wicket :(
    WICKET
    Tucker c Topley b Rashid 21 (Ire 91-6)

150 ODI wickets for Rashid, a fine achievement in his 102nd match. Top-edged sweep straight to backward point.

Nothing coming through?? It would be one thing if we were losing playing with a bunch of players in their mid/late thirties. A 21 year old just scored a fifty on debut, and is on 26* now. Gareth Delany and Harry Tector have shown promise in T20s. Josh Little picked up 4 wickets against England last year. David Delany looked good last year but got injured. Mark Adair coming through too.

Clearly there are going to be teething problems but I'm optimistic about this team.

Another great 50 for Campher. Putting on a show now scoring all around the wicket with power and deft shots as well. Looks a complete batsman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

A nice and much needed bit of acceleration towards the end of the innings, looked like stagnating a bit but a halfway competitive total in the offing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Faltering again, last two deliveries there to be put away, nowhere near getting bat to either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭mrkiscool2

Can't even blame Campher there, its a terrific catch. 215 should be caught unless the bowlers can disrupt the rhythm of the English batsmen but still, need to be making 250 at least at the top level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

That was some last ball. 212-9

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

4.26 is the required run rate. Unless the Irish lads grab a couple of quick wickets early on it’s going to be over by about the 38th over.

One thing I noted was how pretty average the umpiring was. In particular a couple of clear wides and no balls not called.

  • Registered Users Posts: 538 ✭✭✭Shakey_jake

Does anyone know who were due to play after this series??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Topley deserved that one. Excellent death bowling, skill, pace and variation.

212-9. Like the last game, a good recovery but not enough.

Perfect start, if we can bag a couple more in the next few overs we’ll keep the run rate down and pressure might lead to mistakes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Bit of luck for Bairstow, almost dragging on but he's away again. Vital to knock him over cheap. Few more destructive openers in the world.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,089 ✭✭✭Happy4all

They might only need 20 overs to wrap this up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

What a 50 by Jonny Bairstow. Only 21 balls.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,089 ✭✭✭Happy4all

    got him!

Curtis can hold his head high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,800 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Pretty good delivery to get rid of Vince it must be said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

They have their moments, but I would be much more concerned about poor decision making, rather than results, they are a younger and more inexperienced side, but you have to make a plan and carry it out, that is how you become a competitive side. Too many batters gave it away without a fight, they could learn from the new man, he looks a good player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Campher strikes again. What a series he's having.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Can we use the Geoff Boycott method of adding two wickets to the total :) 98-3 now.

Were dues to be heading to Australia for the T20 WC (this series against England was originally scheduled for September) which is now postponed

Everything remains up in the air, and I think we'll be seeing ad hoc matches/series that can be worked into the current situation

It may be that international travel continues to be limited, making matches against the likes of the Netherlands (and indeed England) more viable until things settle down

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

3,000 ODI runs up for Bairstow, the second-fastest Englishman after Joe Root.

Really hope that he gets the ton - I love watching him bat.

He's gone now, one or two more and this could get interesting. Morgan and Billings will see them home easily though I'd imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Bairstow in that mode is frightening, unbelievable fast hands and hits it so hard.

Morgan in now. It gets no easier, he averages 70 against Ireland.

    Game on??

Well I seemed to have jinxed Morgan. Ali could take it away from them, but I remember watching that England Scotland game and Ali threw it away when in a commanding position.

    Haha, Ali gone too.
