Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Quite an electrified weather system (over Scotland) http://brunnur.vedur.is/athuganir/eldingar/

Went to Malin Head in the early hours. Absolutely insane! Recorded a sustained windspeed of approx 50mph and highest gust I recorded while there was 60mph. Standing up at the Radio Tower was almost impossible without the help of some of the abandoned buildings up there.

On my way back down into Malin Head I had to slam my breaks on, but couldn't avoid a downed phoneline or electric line. Managed to slap right off the roof.

Heading back in a homeward direction between Malin Town and Carndonagh there was a downed electric line covering the road. Had to ring the police and notify them of it as it was just over a slight crest.

All in all, pretty damn windy up there!

I'll stick the popcorn on :)

My 5 month old black lad woke me howling at the wind.. Literally. He's never experienced strong wind since he was born really.

Some crazy wind speeds for the Scots

Yes, 228 km/h gust. Of course that is at almost 4,000ft where upper winds will be much stronger than at the surface.

I'd imagine things have peaked for the north coast here now. But the storm itself won't be peaking until later in the North Sea. Significant coastal flooding threat for some North Sea facing coasts, will be interesting to see how the flood protection measures hold up.

Pretty harsh here in Swords. Was walking into work again today and at times it was quite an effort to actually move forward :D

The Luas in Sandyford lurched alarmingly in one gust. You don't expect that of rolling stock, however, it was stationary, and the doors were open on the windward side. A good indication of how streamlined they normally are.

123kt (141mph) gust was recorded there. It's automated output. Of course its on the top of a mountain though...

Very high offshore seas here at Dun Laoghaire, maybe force 6 or 7 on the bay. Winds feel much more sustained than gusty.

The people of Scotland shouldnt worry, Schafernaker will just give the storm the finger.

    A force 18 gust...not to be sneezed at! :P

Still very stormy in Castlebar, any idea of how much longer this will last and will we see winds grow stronger again? The power is out in parts of Westport as well.

In Balbriggan, North County Dublin and probably the worst gusts I have heard in a long time.
I put a breeze block on top of the bins to stop from being blown down and it didnt work so put 2 on it.
Very unscientific but its all I got..

I'm concerned about coastal flooding by high tide with several metres above normal high tonight in countries bordering the North Sea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,039 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

Nasty rain now with the driving wind behind it. Looks rather tame on the radar but it's driving against the front of the house. Great day for the fire.

Indeed, potentially a pretty serious situation for the eastern UK and coastal parts of The Netherlands.

Remarkable drop in the winds here in Dun Laoghaire in the last hour, the harbour and inner bay has dropped to about Force 3 gust 5, very little chop on the waves now having been churning heavily since about 9am

Was a tad breezy on the cycle in to work for 8am this morning, I have to say.

Looking at the last of those pictures I am stunned that anyone got out of the cars, particularly the car on the left.

the car drivers were lucky that the articulated trailer was soft sided and not a container box.
    R.I.P to the truck driver

The tidal surge was worse than expected around some Irish Sea facing coasts in north Wales and near Liverpool.

    BautHAiIcAAHpjN.jpg:large

Which has got to be worrying for the more vulerable, more low lying areas on the east coast of England and on European North Sea coasts where the surge will be even greater tonight.

Someone I work with who lives on the East Anglia coast has been told to evacuate his house until tomorrow evening, seems they're expecting a lot of flooding all along the coast. Hopefully won't be too bad though it's looking worrying for Holland and Germany

AFAIK Ulysses has yet to miss a crossing due to the weather. Now if you were booked on the Swift it'd be a different story

The Azores high is revisiting the country tomorrow again. Seas should be calm. I live in Meath, about 20km from the Irish sea, and it's very calm here.

Storm arrived here in poland during the night. Some very large gusts with bangs around the premesis. Electric outages and lots of thunder snow. Looks like some large snow drifts out there.
All fairly calm now with some beefy snow showers. Will head out soon when light to see what's damaged.
