Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I dont see the big deal with Portugal take Ronaldo out and there a very average squad

He beat Sweden and the North last time out by himself.

Yeah thats not really true though? Pepe/coentrao/moutinho/nani/pereira and cavalho is hugely rated there too, plenty of very good players in the portugal team. Change of management sooner rather than later id say, bento got a lot of stick over the world cup and the result tonight is frankly embarrassing for them.

As someone living in Gibraltar I really hope they don't mess around with the system too much. I'm loving the idea of Germany, Sweden etc coming to play here!

Ever attend their local league games?

Lincoln Red Imps FC seem to have dominated in recent years!

The UEFA rules are going to try to force Franck Ribery to play!

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9459793/michel-platini-warns-franck-ribery-he-could-be-punished-if-he-rejects-france-call
If Deschamps calls him up, then he has to come to the national team," Platini told Bild am Sonntag.

"That's written in the FIFA statutes. If he doesn't report for duty, then he would be banned for three matches for Bayern Munich.

"It is not the player's decision whether he represents his country, it's the decision of the coach.

"Ribery cannot simply decide for himself whether he wants to play for France or not."

Of course Deschamps has not indicated that he will call him up but nonetheless if a player quits that really ought to be respected.

That's a completely ridiculous situation.if a player decides he doesn't want to play that should be it. He should be free to decide on a match by match basis if he wants ( at which point the coach is free to tell him to ****ers off he's not playing).

Sure Hodgson may as well force Gerrard to play so if hes caught short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

France did this before with Makele I think.

Its actually an OK rule, its just that it shouldn't really be used by the likes of France re Ribery.
But I've little doubt the rule stops mid ranking players of lowly ranked countries being put under pressure by their clubs to give up international football. No point in insisting as part of contract negotiations that a player retire from Honduras or Congo matches if the association can just call them up regardless.

Anyone else liking this new 'three day weekend' format for the qualifiers instead of the traditional '20-25 games in one day and then nothing' way that preceded it?

It's early days but I think I already prefer it this way!

    England starting 11

Hart, Stones, Cahill, Jones, Baines, Delph, Henderson, Wilshere, Sterling, Rooney, Welbeck

subs Forster, Rose, Jagielka, Chambers, Milner, Chamberlain, Townsend, Lambert

He better be actually fit to play, tired of Hogdsons stone age BS injuring players.

    Switzerland

Sommer, Lichtsteiner, Von Bergen, Rodriguez, Djourou, Inler, Xhaka, Behrami, Shaqiri, Seferovic, Mehmed

Is Delph a surprise start or has he been playing much for England?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

His first cap was the last game. He deserves the call up but he's better off out of that circus to be honest.

Brad Fabian Delph - Aston Villa.

Will be interesting to see will Sterling have another go at Delph tonight! He was quite vocal with him at full time against Norway.

Delph will get a red card the way he is going.

    Delph should be off already

I can never get over how bad Rooney's touch can be sometimes...that touch under no pressure from a reasonably simple ball in the box...should have been a definite goalscoring chance, instead it seemingly just bounced off him into the defender.

    Delph is a liability already.

You call that a simple ball?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,785 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

    England have no confidence.

It had no pace on it, and he was under no pressure receiving it. Any player at that level should be able to kill a ball that isn't blasted to them, where they're not being physically bustled.

The ball itself to him was good.

    English jersey is quite nice.
The classic England shirt (plain white, with no silly red and/or blue trim) is one of the nicest shirts known to man. Pity about some of the chancers wearing it on the pitch tonight.

    :-(

Apparently, 20 yellow cards in his last two seasons at Villa. How he has been picked for England escapes me.

The Swiss play very nice, controlled football. Though I guess you'd expect them to have that element of control at home, and England are reasonably happy to sit back.

Been very good for Villa but looks like he's ****ting his pants on his debut.

Andy Townsend is so so annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,785 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Awful from Welbeck, was on a plate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,899 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

England playing with 10 men now really Delph is afraid to do anything incase he gets another yellow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,007 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Christ, such a rubbish ball back from Welbeck...such a simple ball to mess up, and was a pretty much guaranteed goal for Sterling had he been found.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,984 ✭✭✭Soups123

Sterling seems off the pace. Delph needs to calm down. Wilshire very quite.

Sterling should have committed he held his run too much the ball itself was fine

He held his run so he'd be easier to be found - there was no benefit to sprinting in, when he was already in space. The ball didn't need to be ahead of him, it was such an easy position, already close enough to goal, that it should have been 'to feet'.

Nah, that was all Welback's fault. Just messed up the pass.

    Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton
Prefer Welbeck to Sturridge. Although DS is a far talented individual. DW is much better team player.

    Matt ‏@_Empique
@Joey7Barton Agreed. Same reason I prefer Naismith to Ibrahimovic.

Phil Jones is so useless trying to play it out from the back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,899 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Wilshere hasn't hit a team mate with a pass all night.

Delph is doing fine, just needs to keep the head tackling wise. Has passed it around nicely.

Stones and Jagielka really need to get up the pitch quicker, the diamond demands them to be the width.
