Suppose it finishes as it stands now with six players tied 10th
and you have one of those players at 120/1
your return on a fiver E/W is ...
    120 / 5 / 6 = 4/1
    .... returning €25

Think Larrazabal will go well. 40/1 8 places with Paddypower. Loves Leopard Creek, won here last year and in better form this year coming into it.

At least we have golf back to take our minds off all the other stuff we are having to deal with.

It wont be easy to figure who is tuned up for the first event of 2021 in a small but select field on a course that suits big hitters.

For my money i have chosen Patrick Reid who has a brilliant record here and is rarely out of the money,he has been playing well on both sides of the atlantic and may be sharper than many taking part.

Instead of backing Reid ew this week i put a tenner win at 14/1 and 20 to finish in the top 10 at evens with PP who only go 1/5th 6 places.

Reid looks a safe bet to finish in the top 10 on a track that suits him,not short off the tee but not up there with the longest hitters, his good iron play and unreal short game will always make him a danger at Kapalua.

You can get 16s on Reed with PP, win only enhanced prices

or back him at 18.0 (17/1) on Betfair Exchange, works out at 16.66/1 if on a 2% commission rate.

Good advice,i have taken the 16/1 with PP and we must always seek out the best value because that is often the only difference between winning and losing.

There is always better value prices betting win only and we can still back place only 10 or even 20 places if we wish.

I backed Lanto Griffin at 40/1 PP (enhanced win only) who was 7th in this last year and finished well last week for 13th in Kapalua,i also backed him at 2/1 to finish in the top 20 for a bigger stake.

You could have backed him at 54/1 (55.0) on Betfair Exchange which is owned by the same parent company as Paddy Power.
Also 2.8/1 (3.8) to finish in Top 20 on same Exchange.

I think i may have to go down that road,i had a betfair account many years ago,it might still be alive but i stopped using it because i was tempted to bet on things i knew nothing about and if i did not fancy something i was tempted to lay it.

With the price differences you have outlined it makes sense and with a bit of discipline it is the way to go.

Yea you'd be better off alright, Betfair exchange will pretty much always have better prices than any of the sportsbooks, so if you're backing just wins it's definitely where you should be betting.

Personally I have accounts on most sites so I use oddschecker as well to get the best prices, there can be differences as big as 66/1 on one site and 100/1 on another site, makes a serious difference. I also try and get bets done soon as the prices come out on a Monday because generally they tend to only go one way and that's shorter as the week progresses! You probably know all that I just posted but just in case you didn't! Good luck.

Edit : I should add regards the exchange betting that it can be tricky to get the best price as they do go up and down, have often backed players @40 for example thinking it surely wouldn't go any higher and sure enough a few hours later it might be up to 50, can work the other way where you wait to see a player drift and instead he shortens and then you're left wondering why you didn't take the original price!

It's very rare you will find a bigger price in a bookmakers and if the price available doesn't suit, you can always try for a bigger price.
IMO the only time you should use a bookmaker is for doubles and upwards or for something that isn't traded on the exchanges or when there is a special like "get paid if your team leads by 2 goals" etc.
It's a no brainer, even at 2% commission thanks to competition :D.

Had a fiver on Landry in the American Express at 150/1 and a bet at 6.5 to1 to finish in the top 20 on Betfair i may add and the fact that he has good form at the course and was a winner here last year so hoping for the best.

cant make make my mind up about Abu Dhabi so i will wait until a round or even two are played,

With Landry well and truly out of the running i backed Tony Finau at 8/1 to finally win for the 2nd time 4 places, with the top boys away i am hoping that Tony can finally gain his 2nd win.

PP offering 80 to cash out but Finau is solid at the moment so i will be holding on.

Should have cashed out by the way things are looking as Tony still finds it difficult to get a 2nd win.

Looked great after the first two holes. He dropped to 2.5 on Betfair. I'd say every punter will be swerving him now though. Just can't really rely on him getting it over the line at this stage.

Well it was always possible that he would fold in the final round as there is a reason why he does not find it easy to get over the line.

I hoped he would find the field easier to cope with and in fairness he did play well for a long time and had a very bright start, but it looked for a while that he might not even hang onto 4th.

It is some consolation that he would have had to shoot 8 under to be in with a shout but i think the time has finally come to always bet against him when he is in contention and he may only ever win again by coming with a bit of a run while those in front play poorly and he almost wins by default.

I did not have a big bet and with a large symbol of a bottle before his name he can never be trusted with a decent bet, when it was certain that he could not win he played the 18th very well and that tells a story.

Ah you can't call that remotely close to a bottle job in fairness. Cantley shooting -11 and Kim -8 is just one of those things. Golf tournaments are difficult to win. If there's value on Finau I'd still back him going forward. There was a time when DJ had a similar narrative following him.

While i agree totally that Cantley and Kim played extremely well to shoot two fine scores and Finau would have had to play really well to contend, it was more the fact that Finau missed a couple of short putts and looked uncomfortable on shots that gave him little or no trouble earlier in the tournament that makes me think that he will always have difficulty getting the job done.

The fact that has not won since winning a weak event in Puerto Rico all those years ago is a monkey on his back.

He shot the second worst score of the 8 players who finished T5 or better. After yesterday's performance I couldn't ever see myself backing him on a Sunday, or pre tournament at this unless it's top 5 finish.

It will be interesting how much this impacts his odds on tournaments now as well.

I just think holding the fact he didn't shoot -9 on a Sunday which is what was required to win it is ridiculously harsh. He was just very unlucky yesterday. Played well but Si Woo and Cantley had incredible days. It happens.

It is not because he did not shoot -9 that i feel he finds it difficult to win,the facts speak for themselves and i am aware that anyone can have a bad day.

The way events unfolded after an excellent start certainly suggest to me that Tony is fragile when getting into contention and his long losing run may not end anytime soon and punters who back Tony before play should lay him if he gets into contention.

Watching the golf tonight and I think they said since his last win, he had earned $17.8M prize money, so he wouldn't be so fussed about not winning

Maybe that's part of the problem

Not enough motivation to close out the win when getting plenty of prize money when placing / top 10

The pros on the main tour are overpaid without doubt any many are like well paid entertainers.

However they all like to win but some find it easier than others to get it done,MclIroys record when out in the final group on sunday is worthy of study.

Some players just tighten up when the prize is in reach while others seem to withstand the pressure and win more often when in contention.

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes,i have not decided whether to have a normal bet on golf this week but i have been threatening to have a go at PPs fantasy golf, have never had a bet on this before now but have invested the modest sum of 32 euro on 4 different markets, the same team for 3 and one different team in one of the markets. If i do have a bet it will be on the Saudi tournament as the fantasy golf only involves the PGA.

From i know i am betting against other punters for a number of payouts with PP taking 20% off the top, a punting friend has been suggesting this to me for quite a while and claims it is a good craic and keeps one involved over the 4 days with some prospect of a decent payout.

If anyone has any ideas on this form of betting i would appreciate the info.

Sounds like draftkings, big returns for small investment and your punting your team/selections against other punters.

Seemingly he just pulled out with no reason given so probably won't get an official time so looks like I will have to stand by all the lays I got filled in when it was announced .

Had 3 in the top 10 and 1 finished about 30th in the PP Fantasy golf, other 2 missed the cut though and i lost 32 euro, trying a similar amount this week with.Cantlay,Malnati,Streelman,Davis and Hadley in a few entries and Cantlay Malnati,Kim,Putnam,McNealy and Mickelson in another few.

The site is very good once i got the hang of it and there is a live running account of how each entry is performing.

With any luck one can have a monetary interest in the golf over 4 days with a variety of risk bets from very small amounts (1,2 and 4 euro bets up to bets in the 100s against a smaller amount of players for big prizes).
