Illy beans aren't bad for chucking into an office bean to cup machine. Only if there on offer though since price wise they often seem to be comparable to the cheaper bags of Irish roasters.

Tesco have 250g bag of Lavazza whole beans for 3.50euro at the moment. Does the job. Best before date 12/2021:eek:

Over roasted mediocre coffee imo. And its ground.

I do like the tins though. Have a kinda retro feel to them.

I find Illy grand. Granted it is ground but Ive always got excellent crema from it. I do think it is over priced at almost 9 euro for 250g, you might as well buy freshly roasted beans at that price point. But at 5.50 its a good deal plus the tins are vacumn sealed so last ages.

Crema, in my experience, is a reflection of the volume of the natural oils in the coffee which are directly proportional to the roast duration. So although the coffee hasn't entirely dried out as preground certainly does rapidly its reflection of the roast profile used - towards a French roast which I find unpalatable.

Illy dark roast cans of beans are grand for me

Also, the cans are well made and useful for other things once empty :)

I'm not sponsored by any1 but so far had a good time with Coffefactory online service , for about 10 euros you get 2 very different beans , and it comes with a proper story cards that sometimes better than the coffee itself . Too bad atm don't deliver to Ireland . Just for the future

I've been seeing some Hario products in TK Maxx for great prices lately. Just picked up an 02 V60 for €9.80, normal retail for this particular one is €35

Has anyone tried any of the bean types that Aldi have added to their 'Specially Selected' offering ?

    ( packets showing BBE Sept 21 - perhaps roasted Sept 20 ? )

No offense, and I know this is a bargains thread, but I'll be avoiding Amazon at all costs (literally) and will try to support local.

You better avoid those foreign coffees as well and only buy locally grown :)

Would 'imported direct from the continent' be out of bounds ?

I get most of my coffee from a roaster in Luxembourg. If you buy 2.25 Kg at a time, they work out cheaper than buying locally including shipping.

Their lowest int postage rate says 2.5 Kg, but I found you have to make it 2.25, unfortunately, as the packaging takes the wight into the next band if you make it 2.5.

    Aeropress £18 (pounds)

would be the best coffee investment anyone ever made if you get on that deal

Indien Perlbohne Canephora (Peaberry, Caracol) Craigmore Estate

Indien Bio Arabica Yellikodige Estate AA
    Indonesien Sumatra Orang-Utan Grade 1
    Status Quo (Gourmet Espresso)
Any of their Ethiopians (Äthiopien) I have tried, which is probably most at this point

I’m just sort of working my way through the whole catalogue and have yet to find something I wouldn’t hesitate to order again. They do some assortment sets which I haven’t tried but suspect I should.

The first two I listed are standouts for me, the Indian pearlbean being particularly strong and flavoursome. I tend to order 4 x 500g plus one 250g. I'll be reordering the Mexico and Kolumian again, which are currently on hand and getting low. My main problem is I just want them all.

I am not sure if it makes a difference, but there's a location tab top left which I always set to Luxembourg. I'm not sure it makes a difference but the mswt/VAT is only 2.3% and I want to ensure thats the rate I get.

Ponaire has its Christmas beans up on their website. 45 euro a Kg....

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,766 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

I'll pass on that and stick to paying £31.60 a kilo.

Potentially a silly question, but are Christmas blends typically different to other blends or just a bit of Marketing?
