Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If I bought a cak corporate colour scheme bike from the 90's dreamed up by some coke addled marketing exec with a purple lambo parked outside I would hunt down some fieldsheer acid worms and Frank Thomas boots, oh and a nice Simpson lid lol:pac:

I wouldn't say looming, I've a bike on my mind but they are too costly at the moment.
I could sell something but anything I have I want to keep.

I will at some stage but there's no panic.
I can't really justify spending crazy money on a bike when the shed is full of them already.

Maybe I'll buy this instead for now.
Do a full derestrict on it to bring the power from 14 to 33bhp :D

He's talking pony about the VRT though, €95 I reckon? (New €950 less 90% for over ten years old)

Minor thing but doesn't inspire confidence in the seller

Then again, every DD ad I see appears to have been put up by a gobshyte who can't spell, can't give relevant info, can't take proper pics, or is asking for stupid money. 2.5 k is rich for that bike. Not surprised it's still for sale

When I was getting rid of mine, there was a guy in the UK on the CBR6 Yahoo group selling a low mileage '97 in black and yellow for little money. I regret not pulling the trigger on that.

    £8500 for that blade!?!!?!

And jaysus that trike, who would be seen dead on that thing?
Who the hell wants a two wheels at the front bike-based trike??

    Scrap the cap!

Donedealwheelerdealers eh! Would you consider another? How you bonding with the sv?

I keep thinking about bolting the spare dr front and rear ends i have onto a crashed cbr4. A 170kg naked 14.5k rpm 58 horse baby blade enduro with 9" travel and a Dakar high rental bar set up. Front end would be no bother but the rear could present problems. Keeping an eye out for something suitable!

Bonding with the SV - not much as it's nearly three months since the fork seal blew :(
Have the bits now but need to wait another week or two until my knee is in better shape.

There's no way I'm pitching up to a seller with the cash amount in my pocket.
When you agree a price do you swap bank details? Does it take long to transfer?

I'm also not going to transfer unless have have the log book, how does it work.

My bikes are never much more than 2 grand, but if your uping it (say 7 or 8)and not buying off a dealer, whats best practice?

You and go and visit the bike and seller and if you get a good impression of each you agree a price and return with cash to take the bike is my take on it.

Bought a bike recently and it took 4 weeks for the log book to arrive. Motor tax office have big delays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,572 ✭✭✭Skill Magill

Still not sure about carrying 7-8 grand in cash though.. And Richard T, do you not sign the log book and then send it away? You did'nt buy it without a logbook?

Signed it when I bought it. The seller is supposed to post it and I was in work and couldnt get away. Take a pic of the log book etc. Bring a friend If you are taking a large sum of cash. Try and meet at the sellers home. There are lots of precautions to take. If I was buying a second hand bike for 8k upwards I would insist on a good test ride and not just around the block.

No one is going to let you test ride their bike without cash way too risky.

Very few private individuals will take bank transfers, cheques or bank drafts again a risk to the seller.

Not many people will meet at their house they'll go to a petrol station or car park as bikes are incredibly easy to steal.

Seller sends the log book not you the buyer.

If you're uncomfortable with it I'd advise going through a dealer because ultimately its the sellers asset to sell and decide how things will go.

I'm a grammar nazi, but spelling has zero correlation with taking care of a bike. Silly way to filter potential bikes.

ABS light is on on that bike...

If the Deauville is anything like the Pan European then the ABS light will go out when you ride a short distance. The wheels need to turn for the ABS self test to happen so I would not worry about what is in the picture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭lennymc

ABS stays on on a lot of bikes until it moves - it's whatever way the sensors are set up from the factory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,487 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Didn't know that, have never owned a bike with ABS...

On the wife's car the light just goes out after a couple of seconds even if you haven't moved off.

SV1k is my first bike with a digital speedo, and km/h to boot! (although you can press buttons to change it to MPH or back again if you really want...)

The Sprint ST came with a Throttlemeister - turn the bar end weight and it jammed the throttle open at whatever position you want. I never used it.
