Found the old "St Louis Rams thread" and decided to do this update. Rams have moved to Los Angeles from St Louis and will temporarily play in the old Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum until their new field is built. Not sure if their record will improve in 2016 with this move halfway across the country.

Their first game will be a preseason match between Cowboys and Rams held Saturday 13 August 2016 at Coliseum 5PM Pacific time, and be telecast ESPN.

    New Rams stadium rendering:

Good time to move to LA.

The new stadium complex looks great.
The James Earl Jones/Edward James Olmos dome in St Louis had to be the most depressing stadium in the entire NFL.

1st pick in the draft, moving city & Hard Knocks.
    Could be fun.

Good time to move to LA.
The locale Los Angeles news has been frequently telecasting the Rams cheerleader tryouts all week. If the relocated team plays as well as their cheerleader finalists, they just might have a better 2016 season!

Wow a rams thread, I think I started the last one but didn't get any response so I just checked in on every other teams threads instead.

Going to be a tough year for us but I'm looking forward to hard knocks.

Don't know if the trade to get first pick was worth it but we'll find out in a year or two, we definitely need a QB the last few years have been disappointing.

Rams are on their Los Angeles honeymoon. They are frequently making appearances all over the city and county. It's been a long time since their move to St Louis after the 1994 season. Finally one of the largest cities in the US has its own football team.

    Woo-hoo, our own thread!

Tough year in store for sure, Fisher will be keeping his fingers crossed for the 7-9/8-8 Holy Grail.

The LA Rams Cheerleaders. Something to cheer for!

Does anyone know if there is a Jersey change for the Rams this season?

I think the move works out for Fisher. It's a new stadium and so it's all new and I don't think anybody has any big expectations for the first year. I think he gets a free pass this year regardless of results. It's like he has a whole season and two Training Camps to prepare for a divisional challenge.

Hi eagle eye. They will play in the old Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for 2 seasons while the new one is built. I know it well, because it's the home field for my Trojans.

Would love if they went back to the old bright blue and yellow. The Navy and Gold never worked for me.

I'd like to see them in the Blue and yellow too.

LA Rams sold 63,000 season tickets, which is about the population size of Tallaght. Their goal is to sell 70K, so we shall see if they meet it before Saturday 13 August against the Cowboys.

Tallaght's population is at least 100k. They have some way to go if that's their target :P

Ram's summer training camp was hosted by the University of California Irvine campus, where their mascot is an anteater.

This thread is like a ghost town...

Good road win in a tough place to win yesterday. Far from perfect and lots to work on but happy enough with that start as none of the starters played in preseason.

Good to see Gurley finish the game strong too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

    Another win for the Rams.
A few NFL podcasts all predicting the saints would win so happy to get the win there. Losing Brees too much for them to overcome and was a comfortable win in the end.
NFC west looking strong with 3 teams at 2-0. Is expect the 49ers to fall off but Seahawks look very good this year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 53 ✭✭jwhat

I watched the highlights of the game this morning and our offence is struggling, defense is looking good though.

Saints beat the seahawks in Seattle which was surprising.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Just watching a recording of the full game now.
Offence struggling in first half has been the norm in the 3 games so far but second half’s have been impressive offensively.
The run isn’t working as well as it should so it does look like Gurley isn’t operating at 100%.

The defence is really on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Defence awful last night. I jinxed them.

Massive game for NFC west tonight. Both teams 3-1 going in.

Only got around to watching the Seattle game yesterday.
Although a loss the team played much better.
I’d be confident enough of winning the return game in LA.
The only real worry from a team POV is that if the D line isn’t getting pressure on, the corner backs are struggling in coverage. Talib looks to be struggling.

No Matthews now for a month either but upcoming fixtures are favourable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

    Wow. Interesting night.
    Peters out.
    Kenny Young in.
    Austin Corbett in.
    Jalen Ramsey in.

O line is in serious need of help so understand Corbett but not sure it’s enough.
Few injuries at linebacker so not upset at Young.
Ramsey is a serious upgrade on Peters but with Talib on IR for 8 weeks it’s still far from perfect.

The new Rams stadium is taking shape now despite the covid delays. That screen looks amazing.

Looks like a good draft class this year, I’m gonna miss Gurnley but Cam Akers is a hell of a draft pick.

With everything going on between new stadium I fear the rams will struggle this year.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 24,974 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

Good win for the rams. But it was definitely a case of cowboys blowing it over rams winning it.

The cowboys attempt to play 4th down instead of going for the field goal that would have made it 20-20 cost then the game.

Nice to be back in the divisional round.
Also nice to see Packer fans being over confident.

Nice start for the Stafford era.

It really was. Stafford looked good some of those long range passes were sweet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Yeah the return of the deep pass is great and all of that but the last TD pass where he's in the pocket with chaos going on around him and he hits Woods at the back of the endzone is what has me excited. Thats a sack if Goff is in there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Watched this on game pass. It was a lot closer than it should have been... some very sloppy play in 3rd quarter.

Reckon we lose that with Goff at QB. One wayward throw aside, Stafford again was great.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Very happy with that win. The team is shaping up very nicely. Stafford is looking great so far... worth the trade hands down.

I have a friend who's a Lions fan and as soon as we made the trade he messaged me going, Stafford is going to bring ye to the Superbowl. I wasn't convinced as he was with the Lions for so long, but it really was a case of him having nothing to work with. Great start to the season roll on next Sunday.

After the first quarter of play, Stafford transformed into one of the best QBs in the nation for that day. His offensive team helped make it happen in protecting him and receiving his passes. But the Ram rushing game was almost nonexistent. A serious worry for future games. They need more offensive balance or they will pay dearly.

The Ram defense was grand too. Not sure how they could have done better against the former national champs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

I think the lack of running was down to two things.

    1. The Bucs run defence is very good so its had to run on.
    2. We are down our two first choice backs and Michel was only picked up the last week of preseason and is learning the offence.

I'm not massively worried about this. They do tend to run more in the 4th quarter of games to slow it down and they've been ok at that. When Henderson is back and they can rotate him and Michel more it isn't a major concern for me.

If I did have a concern its how shallow we are at linebacker.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 47,335 CMod ✭✭✭✭Black Swan

Agree that the new stadium was grand. Not sure if such games will be super spreader Covid events. We will see in the short run.

So glad that the Rams called a timeout to reconsider that 4th down play in the 2nd half. The 3 points FG was sweet and added score lead pressure with little risk of failure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Well that should put to bed all the talk of a home town super bowl.

How they react will be important but that was a whoopin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,930 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Kinda expected that after they beat the Bucs. A little bit casual against the cards.

You don't have to worry about the cards, they'll fall to pieces in about three weeks time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Good bounce back win. Was vital to win that game as this division is a dog.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 47,335 CMod ✭✭✭✭Black Swan

Well Rams took a hit then came back. Stafford wrapped finger. First wrap threw him off. 😛 second for a fix.

They really are pushing the boat out to try make it to the home town super bowl.

It’s fun times for rams fans. A far cry from 10 years ago and the decade before that.
