Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The control pad is a really cool design.

Still not happy about the screen though. I see in the bigger picture it actually looks like they've used a widescreen LCD and pillarboxed the image, which is beyond lazy/cheap!

The problem is it's impossible to get 4:3 LCD screens now. Many of these machines use 16:9 screens and have the bezel cut off the excess screen real estate. And you have weird ones like the 2DS which is basically one giant 16:9 screen vertically orientated with a divided on top to give the illusion it's two screens.

It's actually bizarre. They cut the bezel to a 16:9 shape to show two black pillarboxes.

All they had to do was cut the bezel in 4:3 (which is in line with how an Astro looks anyway) and could have used a 16:9 screen, with the pillarboxes hidden behind as you said.

The thing is, if they wanted a small 4:3 lcd in bulk they definitely could have got them. Even getting a company to make them from scratch is doable these days.
When i was working in China last year we needed a few hundred 3.5" lcd's for a project, a week later we had them from a local Shenzhen manufacturer, and they were 4:3/320x240 displays(and we didn't pay more than 7 or 8 US dollars each). Smaller numbers than what they'll need for the Astro min, but still.

I think they are just been cheap/lazy, which is a real pity.

Has the Revenge of the Death Adder been released on any home system before? I don't remember playing it anywhere other than MAME, wonder is this maybe a first?

It never ceases to amaze me how cheap and lazy huge companies will be about things.

This is the first ever Home release. Same for Dark Edge.

Tant-R is a hidden gem as well.

I saw the thing and was like "cool!", Then I saw the price and I was thinking that a handful of them is getting close to the cost of the real deal. Plus the goddamned lcd thing is like a butterface :p (a terrible thing to say)

Somebody needs to go and prevent the confusion in the city!

I remember this in quirkeys, it wasn't the leap from 1 to 2, but cool all the same. I thought that beating "fool" was nigh on impossible without getting hit until I witnessed some psycho beat the game, I swear he had an epileptic fit with the trigger but he did it :p

Selling a NeoSD MVS on Adverts if anyone is interested. These would be pretty expensive to get now since their move to Andorra, what with the VAT and duty nonsense.

It's a good price but I don't think the Asteroids cab goes for big money, given it's comparatively poor starting place for a hack.
I've got one and Asteroids Deluxe is a terrible omission, as is Gravitate.
I did install a better spinner though, which was not a cheap upgrade, but essential to play Tempest properly.

Edit: Actually, the device has Asteroids Deluxe and Gravitar installed but it takes hacking to activate them, a task I have yet to try out, needing soldering skills and familiarity with command lines to get them onto the menu to play.

Might have a look some day

Me too, but be warned that the monitor in those things does no favours for vector graphics, especially when compared to the sorts of things better emulators can do in terms of visual processing to make more realistic and, worse still, compared to the likes of the Vectrex.

Still, it is nice, just a pity it doesn have Asteroids Deluxe from the get-go

The scanline option is a nice little detail.

    Pricier than the Arcade1UPs though.

It's a really interesting one, would have to be officially licensed?

Seems like a strange move from SNK if so after they only just released a mini system themselves.
