Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I use Chemical Guys MF wash but have never had an issue with normal detergents. As long as it's non-bio and doesn't contain fabric softener they'll be fine. Don't use a dryer sheet when drying them either and only wash them together, not with normal clothes.

EDIT: Also never use washing powder because it can cake up on cloths.

Have car alloys the same as the below with a lot of caked on brake dust. Only seems to be on the shiny black bits which are now dull. What's the best way to get them off?

Either Gtechniq W6 or Bilt Hamber Korrosol with no brush, just spray on, leave to dwell and powerwash off.

Then every few weeks use Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel to keep on top of it.

Yep, it would indeed but to do that right it's a wheels-off job.

Woodies are doing a special on hoses and pump sprayers. In store they are full price but if you use Click & Collect you get it them at the reduced price.

    €15 - https://www.woodies.ie/hozelock-30m-freestanding-hose-reel-with-25m-hose-799999

    €4 - https://www.woodies.ie/garden-plus-2l-pressure-sprayer-1066908

    €10 - https://www.woodies.ie/garden-plus-5l-pressure-sprayer-1066909

That's what I've picked up but there is more stuff on sale.

The purists may scoff but good old cheap Halfords Upholstery cleaner keeps the fabric seats in the Superb like new. Nice smell and super easy to work with. I've tried a good few over the years and see no reason to use anything else now. Agitate with one microfiber cloth, wipe with another.

    Is that the aerosol stuff?
I have seen that stuff make seats full of white stains.

I always found Autoglym interior upholstery very good, but Halfords one cheaper will give it ago.

No, comes in a spray bottle, similar to AG. €4 last time I looked.

Looking for an easy to apply wax for the winter available in Cork, thinking of trying Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax https://dnddetailing.ie/product/meguiars-hybrid-ceramic-wax/

Seems a good enough product especially for the ease of applying ?

Preperation is the key to durability.
No point in buying a product and slapping it on over bad paint.
You should at least clay the car first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭Alfie1

Car is always prepped before applying any wax.

If you are prepared for an hour or so to apply, I would recommend PNS for up to 6 months protection.

Then use BSD as a drying aid to maintain.
I know you said Cork, but I don't know if there is a Cork stockist.

Hoping this is the right thread for this question.
Picking up a new car in next few days and dealer is suggesting a ‘Lifeshine’ coating on paintwork, glass and upholstery for €325.
Anyone any experience with this? Worth the money or is a good polish just as good?
    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,432 ✭✭✭Wailin

No, it's rubbish. I'm guessing this is a vag car, vw maybe? The missus had it done on her golf, she fell for the salesman talk and it's not worth the cost.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22 Greenbin

Yeah, VW. The paintwork I can take care of myself as I’m quite happy polishing and waxing etc. It’s more for the interior I’d like something to fight off stains..

Honestly bring it to a real detailer..... Waste of money and the car will come scratched....

Best bet is tell dealer leave all stickers and not to wash and bring straight to the detailer.
Washing will be a dream and paint will be glossy and swirl free much much longer and obviously wash correctly.

If you are happy with waxing it yourself, you can also get stain block products.
Gtechniq is one of many to provide such product.

I bought some during the week, it was pretty well recommended by autoexpress in their latest tests. Smells good too.

I've been using a CarPro Fat Boa drying towel for a while now and I must say that I find it a LOT better than the Microfiber Madness Dry-me-Crazy.

It has no problem handling two motorhomes back to back where the Dry-me-Crazy wouldn't quite cope with the two motorhomes back to back.

The Dry-me-Crazy is still an excellent drying towel mind.

Any recommendations for a compound/polish to remove light scratches and swirls? I'm using Meguires Ultimate with an orange pad but not finding it great.

    Yes, and S30+ to finish.

    OR
Have a look and a read about the Zvizzer range.
Their one step gets good reviews.

I've read lots of good stuff about Perfect Finish for a 1 step: https://cullencarcareshop.ie/product/sonax-profiline-perfect-finish-compound-250ml/

What do people think of this as a beginner kit for a 1 step polish?

    Screen-Shot-2020-09-30-at-12-24-02.png

3" backing plate gives me some flexibility for tighter spaces, and I went for those pads as they are the only company doing pads that fit both back plates that I could see, it keeps the pads consistent all over the car, and they are supposed to be good. I'd be using Sonax Perfect Finish with it. Am I missing anything? Will 1 pad do a whole car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,586 ✭✭✭✭vectra

Can you fit a smaller backing plate on a V2?

    As for Pads,
My personal go to are Hex logic pads. Especially the green.

According to the description of the 3" backing plate it fits the DAS-6 V2, so I hope so! I wanted to get the Hex Logic pads as I've seen them used in a number of videos, but they don't do them smaller than 4" I think. My thinking is I'll definitely need something smaller than a 5" in certain places on a car, but I suppose there isn't much difference between a 3.5" and a 4" pad really, maybe I'll get the Chemical Guys ones instead. Do you find the green pads remove enough swirls etc. in a 1 step?

Depends on the paint hardness and damage to be removed, but the hex pads are really great.
    I use 4".

I did a deep dive into the shed today, and rooted out my collinite 845. I warmed it up, used some quick detailler on the bonnet, waited an hour or so, and gave it a light coat. Waited about 10 or 15 minutes, and wiped off. I think I need better microfiber towels, but it came off easily enough.

    WisojZh.jpg

I only did the bonnet, and the wings actually. Wanted to see if I noticed a difference. Here's the boot for comparison.

    OyBDohW.jpg

Boot only has the Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic spray wax on. Can't say I see much of a difference, and the ease of the spray makes me doubt I'll be using liquid waxes any time soon! Supposed the beads are a fair bit tighter on the bonnet.

Going to pick up some of that turtle wax sealant spray that I've been hearing so much about, and the ice spray wax to go with it. Supposed to be a good combo, and better than the Meguiars.

The new sealant sprays are so good and easy to use with less chance of abrasion than wipe on/wipe off waxes, I can't see why anyone still uses them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,586 ✭✭✭✭vectra

Finish the car off with 845, then just maintain with the spray of choice.

Are there any glass coatings for a windscreen that won't cause any judder like rain-X apparently does? Was reading old threads about glass coatings. Never used any myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,016 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

I've used Soft99 and Gtechniq and never had any kind of juddering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Gtechniq G1 can cause juddering for a short while after application. I'm not sure about G5 as I've only ever used it on shower doors.
