Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Over a 40 year period a well run pension will always show rises well above inflation once it’s properly funded of course
With government bonds sinking further into negative yield territory the bit about proper funding is the sticking point.

My most recent scheme gave me two options: Gamble on stocks or lose money. :(

Many is the weekend over the summer I’ve woke up and thought, great - I’ll get the sheets on! Nice new linens tonight!!

I started to miss waking up hungover after Friday night pints - which I didn’t have as “I’m tired after work”.

    God am old!!!

I can remember as 19-20 yr olds 6 or 7 of us went to saints in Howth
Home about 4 ,met up at 9am for a match in Ashbourne
Had to stop the bus a few times for lads to get sick .
    Played the match and won
Back to the Donaghmede Inn for a few pints after the game
    Good old days

If they wish to avoid being ridiculed - over 60

Oh yeah the stink of beer on the pitch. I remember carrying an "injury" on to the pitch one morning. Dirty one night stand and I had carpet burns on both knees after a particularly vigrorous yet attentive love making session. Both knees started to bleed on the pitch.

I had to come off at half time that day...back pinting within the hour...:D

When you hear a musician who 'opens up' about retiring from a long and successful career, and you say 'who??' Never heard of her.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Given what has happened to pensions in the last 2-3 decades most 20 year olds would be crazy to sign up to one voluntarily.

The retirement age will be over seventy by the time I get to retirement. Just inject me and sent my remains to the soylent factory when I'm longer economicaly viable.

Given the tax relief available on pension contributions, any higher rate taxpayer who has their overall financial situation under control would be crazy to not sign up to one voluntarily.

For my current pension fund the "low risk" option which is basically gov't bonds had a stated annual yield of -5%. And that was before the Covid-19 government money tree that relies on rock bottom bond interest rates going even lower.

Turning the volume right up on the radio when the obituaries come on and if anyone around you is making noise telling them in no uncertain terms to shhhsh. Come to think of it listening to the radio these times is in itself probably a sign that your getting old.

On a similar note, if I type the letter 'r' into my browser, the first site that comes up is rip.ie.

The verb “to go” takes on an entirely different meaning.

    ie. “my back’s gone again”

MAP2 is their low risk fund. 3 and 5 year returns are positive. It had a bad year in 2018 but didn't get near the -5% figure you quoted.

You'd be crazy not to avail of the tax relief available.

I don’t think they are remaking but that picture is from a reunion from a coupe of weeks ago where they all sat down and talked about the show. The tribute to uncle Phil was superb in fairness.

When you type a response in a particularly lively thread on boards, and then you don't actually post it, because you don't have the energy to follow through with the inevitable backlash.

This happens to me all the ti..
