Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Getting rush from exercise

Does anyone not get a rush from going for a walk or a jog? I walk once a day for 40 minutes but do it to maintain a slim weight, I've never felt good from it as some people claim to.

Am I missing something or perhaps not trying hard enough?

You wont get it from a walk, even a brisk one. Try running or cycling and you'll get a massive whack of those lovely endorphins.

You need to go for a run to get that "runners high" or lift weights to get the "pump."

Yes try lifting insanely heavy weights that’ll really blow your mind ..

I do think exercise is for some and not for others.
Some people simply do not like running and others can't accept this.

The OP is walking for 40 minutes. That doesn't give anyone a high.

It would give me more of a high than going on a run!

Funny enough I don’t get a rush from running or cycling unless I go very hard and fast . Ive friends who love doing 80milers on the bike or very long runs . Much prefer the endorphin blast of a hard 5k -10k run . To me it’s not about distance it’s about speed
Walking the dogs briskly every day doesn’t do much although the dogs like it .

And some don't like exercise but do it anyway because it's good for them.

If you had a kid who refused to eat their vegetables, would you let them eat sweets instead? No, you'd tell them to eat their veg because it's good for them.

There's more ways to exercise than running.

When people say I don't exercise it's like saying I don't brush my teeth. Everyone should do something.

I need to run for upwards of 45 mins to get the 'high'. With sprinting it's easier.
Alternatively a good set each of bicep curls, pushups and lateral dumbbell raises really does the trick.

But diet determines how many if any you need to do of both. People went thousands of years without brushing and in many cases, lived to 60 and 70 years.

Sorry, I may have came across wrong here. It's good to exercise and lots of people do it and some love it and others don't.
I just know people do it and they dislike it and others can't accept this and they've tried many forms of it.

Average life expectancy even now in countries with **** food and healthcare is 50. Not 60/70.

Diet determines weight, exercise determines composition.

Rubbish - a good old 40 minute walk outdoors is good for body & soul.

And a lot easier on the joints than pounding the concrete.

    That’s a good point.
I know people and they start of walking and some gym monkey tells them they are basically wasting there time going on there walk and it sort of disheartens them.

Can't bate a good wrestle with a Royal Gorilla to get you a nice high, OP.

Oh you'll feel better and more focused alright. I do a good 30 min power walk on work lunch breaks.
But the buzz comes with harder exercise when there's a strong pump of blood.

    Edit. I run on grass.

So what your saying is that it takes you 40mins to walk 2k, because thats all your allowed to do under the present restrictions.
Ifs its that you that long to walk 2k. What kind of rush are you getting! Curious question are you human or are you a figment of your own imagination

You need to buy better green or take a tolerance break. Works for me all the time.

You could live without brushing your teeth, but you'd be a scruffy b*stard.

I'd imagine Feg has never lifted weights before.

But on a serious note, yeah, there certainly is a high you get after going for a run.

Even a walk is good for the mind.

Better than just sitting on the couch like some folk are doing all day these days.

Yes I get it but only when I do a good 6km walk while walking briskly. Love it!

Kickboxing would suit him better. A kick in the face is what he needs.

Cardiovascular exercise (walking) does very little for keeping slim.

Cardiovascular exercise is for your heart and lungs.
Burning off a few calories in the process is a welcome side effect but not the purpose of CE.

If one has poor cardiovascular health (not necessarily suffering from anything) it will affect your whole day. Lethargic, your mental mood and so on. A lifetime of a sedentary lifestyle will take it's toll by the time your 50 or even earlier nowadays.

As far as 'feeling high', a rush, is concerned - many people have stressful lives, due to work etc, Taking regular cardiovascular exercise goes some way to alleviate that and therefore one does feel a kind of rush when they feel back to normal.

The theory behind the endorphin rush is that it your body's response to physical stress, and is designed to relieve pain induced by hard exercise. Therefore you should try to exercise more intensely, eg, mountain walking, moderately strenuous cycling, etc. I have found this works for me, whereas a walk up to the shops would not do much. Another point to remember is that the effect on ones mood may not be immediate, but may be felt a bit later, and in fact may last for a day or two. 40 minutes of moderately strenuous exercise should do the trick.
