Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I reckon so.
I jumped from the 500s to 183. Guess some lads home and supervised tests didnt match

I wonder how many of the 600 got through? I went from 300s to 119

Yeah same as that I went from late 500s To the very low 100s .. It was a tough aptitude test so who ever of us came out the other side deserved it. Well done lads (and girls) in fairness. Best of luck to everyone going forward.

Thank you and well done yourself. I'm relieved now. For me the rest is the easy part. No BS or mistakes cost you the job, its just your capacity to perform the role that decides if you get it or not.

[i have to say ive been doing the physical fitness part a bit and i can do it ok, im in the gym (crosstraining) and i reckon theres gonna be a good. Few that wont make it through that part of it. Well done guys,

I came in 50s at stage one. passed verbal and numberical at stage two but failed questionaire (384) with qualifying score at 400. Really gutted as I am useless at numberical so studied hard for that thinking that would be my downfall! That's life I guess!

Well done to you all again

Congrats everyone who got through... I seem to be the only one who lost places in the supervised one! haha
Still managed to scrape through though so will see how the next stage goes.
Does anyone know how many got through to Stage 3? And for how many places?

And does anyone have a copy of the original information booklet.... need to take a closer look at the details now that I've gotten this far!

    Thanks in advance.

I believe there is 120 places, as regards how many got through, I'm thinking 250-350 but could be totally off

No you're not the only one, if a lot went up, presume a whole batch moved down (in addition to those who couldn't make the date and/or pulled out) and contrary to what was suggested earlier, not all are due to others completing the unsupervised test for you! Scenario tests were very different and personality test is an unknown.

Good luck to everyone in the next round.

Form B, I'm presuming we receive this on the day of interview to fill out up there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 tinru

It says at the end of the message "You will receive the link to the form B next week" and that "candidates must complete this form fully but not sign it until in the presence of a member of staff from the IPS on the day of their interview"

Can anyone advise me what allowance's are payable to prison officers?

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 Harambe1

Congratulations to everyone who made it through to stage 3. I also went down in places from the online assessment to the one taken in the test centre. Dropped from the 160's to almost the very top so Im delighted with that. Really excited about the next stage of the competition now. Does anybody know how many people overall applied for stage 1 of the competition this time around?

Must send the from by end of today! I'm not so sure about the empty field? you mean your email is saying empty field? there's a space on the email address if you copy and paste it that isn't supposed to be there i presume.

I was having trouble with it today and I couldn't get it to work ... Now I've to work till 12 tonight and won't get to finish it or sort it out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 219 ✭✭CorkColin

Well if you really want it, ring someone to try and do it for you, surely someone can :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 29 DeccieDarcy

Emailed publicjobs about it today and they advised not using chrome at all. Only use windows and adobe to open and edit.
Even at that it took me ages to get it to open.
Id say theres a lot that will have had problems with the format.

Yes but it says you must print it off and bring it with you to the interview as it must be signed in the presence of somebody from the IPS I think

Was wondering the same. I barely got through the first online test. Came 1500's. Put it to the back of my disappointed mind. But if they're calling ppl forward in groups of 600, I might still have a hope in hell of being called, maybe even next year??

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 Harambe1

Just got a message about an interview date. Anybody else?

I'm in similar position.Came in 1200's.In 2008 campaign,it got into high numbers on order of merit list so you might still have a chance.

No great things as such, very tough job. You are dealing with some dangerous people in a gloomy place. Great pay, benefits an pension are the core selling points. A lot of people enjoy their job as PO though, im sure it is really rewarding but ofcourse mentally draining and stressful. Id love to work in probation personally

I'm not fully educated to the point where I know how many hours u work or what even the pay and benefits are like. Benefits are rarely discussed as they vary but I assume they're good?

The prison officers on my Gaa team get off early for Matches ha there's one benefit 😀

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭brianp20

I've had contact with some po's. It's obviously a tough job and I have the same reservations as others. The pay at the start, renting/commuting to Dublin and the cost of it, the job itself, whether I want to work in that sort of environment, will it have a negative effect on me as a person, will I be happy in the job? All these questions are floating around my mind.

The po's I've spoken to have been really great and open. One thing that has been said to me is focus on the positives of the job, security, pension, opportunity to climb the ladder.

It's a big decision, no doubt about it. Best of luck to everyone.

The ladder is broken bud. Tread carefully.

If you want to know a bit about it I suggest you read 'Inside Man' by Philip Bray. It will be in your library and if not they can get it for you. An honest account of a Prison officer in Limerick Prison for 30 years up until 2008. He refers to the job as the velvet trap as in the money was too good to turn down when overtime and allowances were accounted for. Prison can be a violent place, it can also be a rewarding place to work. To some people it is just a job but others genuinely seem to enjoy it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 eldel1

Got date and time for Interview. On the Interview notification, at the bottom it says, "Please note that the Irish Prison Service will not require candidates to complete a Form B at this stage of the process."

I did receive an email from IPS to acknowledge receipt of my Interview form tho.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 doogie93

Yeahbi emailed to see what's happening? I got receipt email too for submitting Interview Form but haven't received Anything since.

Got the Interview notification on the 21st, looks like yours got lost in the post, you'll likely hear tomorrow. My interview isn't until the 22nd of nov, good while yet so I'm sure you won't be too short of notice.

Haha yeah its looking that way. I'm in the 200's position so maybe that's the hold up

    Hi all,
Congratulations to all who made it this far, just looking ahead to physical and have a couple of questions if anyone can help.
Is it 600 or 800 metres (15m stints) in 3.30 minutes?
Will we be running individually or in groups like in a beep test?

    Thanks in advance
