Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Season four was very poor. Five is quite an improvement, stuff is finally happening now that instead of the interminable circular plot of the previous seasons.

I'm very nearly at the end of my catch up list. Only 9 episodes of the leftovers ( which I'm finding rather dull) and a season of rock and Morty left before I have to go hunting for new stuff.

I've never seen a January before with so little on TV.

I like Baskets so far though.

Another season(and probably series) finale completed now with the brilliant Galavant just watched.

I've watched 5 of The Leftovers s1. I'm enjoying it enough. Will get to Fargo s2 when it lands on Netflix.

What legal streaming services are available here?

    Netflix
    Sky - boxsets, etc
    UPC/Virgin - haven't researched it
iTunes - haven't checked this much

Can you access Virgin without being a traditional customer, without having something hardwired into your house?

I always wonder do characters in shows like Supernatural realise "Crap, it's May. that means something is probably going to happen this month that affects us for 3 months"
Then in September/October realise "Oh the big bad has revealed themselves. Sure we won't rush to fight them yet since we'll probably only get a proper shot at them around May"

am halfway through Fargo s2 at the moment, loving it. Jaysus Landry out of Friday Night Lights (also of Breaking Bad) has put on a bit of weight

So here I am due to work staying in a bnb with very limited tv channels. Great, RTE scheduled to show Oscar worthy film The Help. Tuning into that. 9.35pm the announcer informs me that coming on waa an election special. And then romantic farce The Leap Year. Like how is that a sub? GRRRRRRRR.

Lads, lads, lads. Thanks ever so much!

Just for the craic I tweeted LeVar Burton with a pitch for a TV Show... I put very little thought in to it as I only had 140 characters to play with, but he said he liked it, so happy days...

    https://twitter.com/levarburton/status/696503748714057733

Anyway, for sh**s and giggles, if you could pitch a TV Show idea, what would it be and more importantly, what's it gonna be called... The catchier the better...

It took me 7 episodes to notice The Leftovers is based on a book.

    Wossit orla baht?

It was about a man who had MND who chose how he'd die. Assisted suicide.

Very moving and the family were incredibly brave allowing the journey they were all on to be documented.

    Ha, I like it.

Hows about 'Life Swap' or "Not That One" where people with the same name swap places for a month

Pilot Episode - Joan Collins, star of Dynasty and several other glamorous shows, spends a month in Dublin South Central trying to get Medical Cards for constituents and campaigning against Water Charges.

Meanwhile, her namesake (the TD) jets of to Hollywood to do whatever the other Joan Collins does these days. With hilarious consequences..

I saw this question pop up on my Facebook feed, and thought it was an appropriate one for here...
You've been kidnapped. You can call on the characters from one TV show to make a rescue attempt. Which show do you pick?

    Go. :)

Supernatural, I mean who wouldn't want some classic one liners from Dean while Sam made sure I was safe and sound. Although a wildcard would be from Chuck.

    *daydreams about Yvonne Strahovski'* :)

I'd probably go for the 24 team too.

The only problem though is that Jack is really the only one guaranteed to be still alive at the end of the day.

Hey guys - I don't think this is worthy of a thread but I'm looking for recommendations of detective shows like The Bridge or The Killing.

Ones that open really well in the first episode especially.

Thanks dude. I've seen some of those already but my brain blanked.

Trying to research great openings of detective shows so keep 'em coming if anyone can think of more!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Edward Hopper

Couple more detective shows that I rate, that have good opening episodes though maybe not the same kind of set up as the Bridge/Forbrydelsen.

    River.
    Top of the Lake.
Wallander (though they are self contained stories, so probably don't fit what you're after).
Hinterland is good too, Welsh TV at its best.

    Arne Dahl
    Endeavour

I've got the ITV Sherlock Holmes box set with Jeremy Brett if you want a lend, though they are probably all on Netflix. IMO the greatest Holmes ever

Is it me or are there few shows really worth watching this year?

I seem to have F all to watch with the exception of Better Call Saul, Baskets, 11.22.63

Not really finding Happy Valley as good as last season's either.

Have been bingeing on the Sopranos/Wire/Breaking Bad just to get by (Highly recommend watching the sopranos again if you've not seen it in a while. I had forgotten how good it really was)

Anything else I'm missing out on here?

    Billions? The Night Manager?

I was disappointed to see locatetv.com is closing

    http://www.locatetv.com/blog/locatetv-closing/

I found it's personalised schedule handy, you could set alerts for programmes, films, actors etc and whenever they were on air the details would appear on your calendar.

Anyone know of any alternatives? Would digiguide do something similar?

Vinyl, Billions, Girls, Fresh Meat, Togetherness on Monday.
Better Call Saul, Midmorning Matters on Tuesday
New Girl and Brooklyn 99 on Wednesday
Sunny in Philadelphia, Suits on Thursday
Vikings, Elementary, Baskets, workaholics on Friday
    Animals on Saturday
    Night Manager on Sunday

Love, Master of None, House of Cards on Netflix.

    Horace and Pete

Some are habit watches but there's enough half decent stuff to fill the time

I've been using myepisodes.com for awhile and quite like it - the calendar is very clear and handy, even if show and episode information is pretty much non-existant. I used to use tvrage.com for years, but it shut down last year, and then re-launched a few weeks ago, by which stage I was used to myepisodes and preferred the layout of it.

An interesting show started on SyFy in the States last night called "The Internet Ruined My Life". It's about innocent tweets or posts that spiraled out of control and pretty much ruined peoples' lives.

The first one last night was an asian-american woman who got offended by a piece of Stephen Colbert's satire (admittedly close to the bone) and got #cancelcolbert trending. She did an interview on TV the next day and ended up insulting "white people". Yeah, that didn't end well.

The second one was a guy who tweeted something along the lines of digging Marilyn Monroe's body up, and "destroying america" a few weeks before travelling, and was arrested by Homeland Security when he landed.

Worth a watch. I wonder if any ex-boardsies can make this claim?
