Apologies. I see you already mentioned Whitegate :)

You know that both those stations are fuelled by fuel from either Foynes or Whitegate?

It all comes from the same tanks no matter the brand, some might have additives and some may not but all fuel you buy in this country is ultimately from the same place.

Well.... some of it could come from other more nefarious sources! ;)

But I think a major Maxol and Circle K station are probably getting it from legal sources and the different additive is the reason for colour difference in this case.

Both brands might get their diesel from the same refinery but the additive for each brand is added when they are loading the truck at the refinery.

    So...

All diesel fuel is not the same?

    It is all the same.

Some companies pay the refinery more for additives to preserve/improve fuel.

And here I have switched their positions, in case someone complains that the angle of the light was causing an issue.

    Which left

The one on the left shows signs of dehydration and maybe using too much berroca.

    So, a little update.

I pulled into a 3rd brand of petrol station today (I won't be naming it at this moment in time)

My car was fairly full so I wouldn't have needed much fuel, so I pumped about 2L into my car, and then very slowly pumped about half a litre into a clean water bottle that I had.

All this was done with the intention of posting the colour result up here.
(The third bottle has a sight blue tint to it so I was going to decant it into the same type of bottle as was previously used)

Anyway, as I was slowly pumping the fuel into the bottle, I noticed a fleck of something travel, with the fuel into the bottle.

    Let's have a look

In conclusion, Brand C is a lot closer in colour to Brand B (circle k) but it has a nice lump of black stuff in it.

How do you get diesel into a 500ml water bottle without spilling it?
Do you carry a funnel around with you?

Carefully pull the trigger very lightly.

I've banged off an email to Company HQ of "brand C" , and I'm awaiting a reply.

I sent them pics of the fuel with lumps floating in it and the receipt.

    Let's see what they say.

They'll say the station has a rusty fuel tank.

I can’t see them admitting the fuel is dirty.

Colour depends on the amount of Fatty acids, tallow, Me esters , or Fatty acids, vegetable oil, Me esters that was added. The more added, the more it looks like '' new vegetable oil colour''
The diesel with less has that greeny tint.

So which diesel would be considered a better mix?
The lighter one with the greeny tint I'm presuming.

I don't see that happening either.
I'm sure they'll tell me that they have thoroughly checked the fuel and that it meets and exceeds the required standards.

But I'll know where I won't be buying fuel.

One is probably supplied from whitegate refinery
One is probably supplied by pembokeshire refinery.

Diesel color changes slightly during the year too depending on chemicals required to refine it.

Google "the color of diesel fuel - well-worth products"
