Today I got fuel from two well known reputable brands.
These stations are side by side, and the fuel was bought minutes apart.

Pour some into some clear jars for us to see as the two plastic containers appear to use different plastic (the one on the right looks more dense)

The drums are clearly different. Look at the top that’s unfilled.

    Both drums are the same.

I actually filled up 4 drums at each station.
Station 1 has darker fuel in all 4 drums, and likewise, station 2 had lighter coloured fuel.

Bought in cork, two very busy, and reputable stations.

    Id be getting it tested....

As said put into a glass or jar and see.

I'll take a pic of all 8 drums tomorrow.

The colour difference isn't due to the plastic drum

Was the left drum used for Kerosene recently?

I wouldn't like to be dipped with the fuel from the left drum in my tank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,553 ✭✭✭murphyebass

Put them in a glass and drink a little. Just to test the consistency.

Yeah, to be fair, the drum on the right looks more clouded.

There is a difference in the plastic colours. It's quite obvious in your photo.
Show us the liquids with no plastic!

As I've said.. multiple drums.. 4 are dark.

FFS.. I'll go out and take a pic of all 8

I'd be more curious to see samples in clear glass.
Definitely got a bit of a Kero look about it.
I wonder how revenue would look at it at a dipping check.

Forget the drums. Pour a little of each into a glass container otherwise it’s a wasted exercise.

Can you back that up with actual proof that they're by the same manufacturer using the same materials to produce ?

    Ok
Bear in mind that this pic was taken with a fluorescent tube overhead.

    IMG-20190916-212223.jpg

    https://i.ibb.co/Zh4sjHn/IMG-20190916-212223.jpg

    Counting the drums,
    Top row 1 to 4
    Bottom row 5 to 8

    Going left to right

    1,2,5,8 =Brand A
    3,4,6,7= Brand B

Ok.. there might be some slight colour difference with the plastics, but Brand A is definitely darker in colour.

    No.. two different stations,
Almost 100L bought from each, from a single pump at each.
In one transaction , each time.

And bought within minutes of each other

(I have receipts to prove that 99L was bought in each station, only minutes apart)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,216 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Why would anyone go to two different station's...

Why didnt you but it all at the same place

    Just for clarifications sake

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

Honest question, why 2 separate station purchases???

I see 4 different colours there. You can’t really tell anything through plastic.

There can be differences anyway with additives that different providers put in so it might all be above board so your thread title is accurate anyway!

    Good question.

I was using two fuel cards

    1 DCI and 1 Circle K

Max if 100L per day on each.

Now, thinking back, I should have just bought it all at Circle K.

But then I wouldn't have noticed a difference in fuel colour.

(.. and now you know.. one of the brand's is Circle K.)

4 different colours.. there is actually two colours, but the artificial light above is affecting the pic.

if they are from one pump in each station they should be the same colour shouldn't they? only variable is the containers.

I'll put some into glass jars tomorrow.

The jars probably won't be identical.

Now .. which two drums do you want me to compare.

What are you using the diesel for?

Why are you bothered unless you see a difference in performance?

To keep the experiment consistent, use the two original drums in the first picture. :)

Do motor factors not have detector kits?

Try one and see if any results.

    I can do that,

but I'm sure some clown on here, will want documented video proof with an independent observer from KPMG and an official from the Guinness Book of Records present.

    Edit..
I'll use plastic 500ml water bottles.

Don't think I have any empty glass jars.

There is a visible difference between the colour of fuel from both stations.

One is a lot darker than the other.
It's probably just due to additives, but the stations are side by side, and as they are in cork, I'd imagine that both are supplied by Whitegate refinery.

Well if you want to make up some half arsed visual experiment to suit your initial agenda at least have the containers the same clear glass

Right.. so what do you want me to do, to show the difference in fuel colour.

Keyboard warriors will always find fault with something.
I've no intention of spending money to show what I already know.

I'll put fuel from brand A into one plastic bottle, and ditto with brand B

    I'll take a pic tomorrow.

Show them in glass containers to compare.

Quite hostile, defensive response to OP.
Nobody wants to believe diesel might be variable? Or the cheaper stuff might be dodgy?

I never buy on price (because variability between pumps makes a few cents diffence futile). It's hard to judge quality tho. I used to think Applegreen safe. Now I'd avoid...

Use two jam clear jars for your comparison today. Eat a sliced pan worth of toast smothered in jam with your tae in the morning if you have to.

FFS, just do what you were asked. You come on with a question and threw up a picture of a side by side sample in 2 containers that were obviously constructed with different material, then you get all bitchy when questioned. Surely 2 clear jars, side by side, with samples from your first pic is not a monumental request?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

It'd take too long to find a single jam jar with clouded glass for the comparison.
