    Oh thank jaysus.

When I saw all the other songs with actual food in the title I fully expected last place.

Full disclosure, first time I heard this was at a BBQ in my aunties new house in Wexford. Drinking desperados on the decking eating slow cooked barbeque brisket. The sunset was immaculate. I can't hear that song without that memory popping up. Good times.

To be fair we did say in the Category description that if it gave you memories of food that would be fine. You explanation in your submission helped as well. Just can't mark it the same as a Chocolate Jesus for example. That's a pretty high (chocolate) bar

Right so we are down to the final 4. I am going to get myself a coffee and I'll be back chatting to myself here in 10/15

You're flying here Kingsley, I don't even know who entered the top two and bottom two so I'm somewhat in the dark here too.

You all have driven me to food, having a bowl of rice pudding and spiced plums. Enjoying the reveal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

So I'm actually well ahead of schedule so no need to rush the good stuff.

So in second-to-last place and picking up 2 points is
    Drumpot
    with Blackout by Muse.

Barney's Comments: This is another that doesn't scream food to me, but does for the sender. The song just doesn't grab me at all unfortunately. Felt like it was going to burst into life around half way through but it didn't and the sort of static-y sound just kept going which I didn't like at all at all.

Kingsley's Comments: Riiiiiiiiiiight. So lets start with the theme. In the senders own words this song reminds them of Hannibal lector chowing down on some human flesh. Im struggling to not gve 1/5 for that but beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Now the song. Do you know what? I thought this was boring as flip the first couple of times but it really is growing on me. This will certainly be making it onto one of my playlists after the Walrus.

The silver medal of the round goes to
    Prisca
and they pick themselves up a splendid 14 points for I Like Pie, I Like Cake by The Four Clefs

Barney's Comments: I could see myself swing dancing to this alright, it's got a nice beat. I'm not so sure of the lyrics but I like the music.

Kingsley's Comments: I love pie and I love cake and boy oh boy do I love this song. No more needs to be said.

So in each round someone has to come last unfortunately and collecting 1 point is
    LavarBurton
with their selection of Threw It On The Ground by The Lonely Island

Barney's Comments: Oh I don't like this singer's voice, or the backing "noises". Sorry, but I really just don't get the song at all. The cell-phone verse was a particular low point for me.

Kingsley's Comments: So I really like Andy Samberg on TV but I've always had a love/hate with The Lonely Island. This one definitely falls into the latter category. I do not like it at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

Me when I heard that Andy Samberg was involved in this.

I love Lonely Island. but this is one of their worst for me :/

    giphy.gif

And coming in at the top spot is
    Trigger
with their splendid selection of Junk Food Junkie by Larry Groce

Barney's Comments: Oh I do like this, head was bobbing along from the start. I think it is clever and the delivery is good. Then there is the nice music in the background. This one is going to do well with me at least.

Kingsley's Comments: Oh yes oh yes oh yes. I absolutely love this. This is exactly the type of music that I could put on at any time and it would have me instantly moving. Love the beat, story and lyrics. It's for songs like this that I wanted to run a walrus. Game over. Full marks

We will update the leaderboard later on today.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Preliminary thoughts for the next (Good Mood) reveal to take place on Monday before taking a wee break for Christmas before doing the last 2 reveals between the 27th & 30th if that suits people?

And in 8th place scoring a nice and symmetrical 8 points is
    Spook
with The Onion Songby Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

Barney's Comments: I was intrigued as to whether this was going to be a serious or jokey song. I can get behind it, I like the lyrics and the idea of the world being a great big onion. It's not my favourite of the songs but it's a good one.

Kingsley's Comments: I have heard this song on numerous occasions before but never knew they were comparing the world to an onion! It's a very nice song, sung by two beautiful singers but I am left wanting more from it. It seems to be building to a big crescendo but then it just flatlines for me.

Wait 'til I peak on the Wild Entry :D

    Congrats Trigger!

    Great reveal MrK.

I knew Lonely Island would be a massive risk, so I was willing to suffer the consequences on this round and take a punt.

I wonder if I should've gone with my second choice... also a big risk I think (it's a real love or hate one)...

Highlights of this round for me:

osh - this was probably my favourite overall. Would've had it in first place.

Green&Red - great choice, would've made my Top 3 easily.

Pretzill - sounds like something they'd use in an '80s porno, but its a class tune.

phatkev - can't beat a bit of Tom Waits!

    Tusk - that's a really great remix.

Drumpot - you were robbed, love Muse, great song, and I would've given you bonus points for the Hannibal connection.

Trigger - I really like it. A worthy winner, even if there were one or two I liked better personally.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

You shouldnt have put that up there Levar. That song wouldve scored 15/15 for me. Love the track and I have a personal story to go along with it!

Oh well, you win some, you lose some... I'd like to say I've learned my lesson, but I'm sure I'll make equally as questionable choices in future Walruses... :D

If it’s any consolation you have made me play the song and it put a whopper smile on my face heading into work. Much appreciated

So picking up a juicy 12 points for a fourth place finish is
    Tusk
with this Kygo Sexual Healing Remix

Barney's Comments: I like a good kygo remix, it's not immediately clear to me the food connection but the sender indicates it would be a barbecue theme which I can see. Not sure I'd have it myself but I do like the song.

Kingsley's Comments: I've heard this remix a lot but I do really love it. Theme-wise if the sender says it gives them BBQ vibes then who am I to argue with that but just can't give it top marks compared to some of the other entries in this round.

Hah, I used this is a previous Walrus, think it came close to the bottom, I was disgusted, glad to see it up near the top this time, great song

Breathes a sigh of relief that I'm not sitting dead last after that disaster of a last round for me (makes a mental note never to submit The Lonely Island for a Walrus ever again), and hope the rest of my songs fare better to drag me back up the table just a little bit.

Motherlover and Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde would be two of theirs that I would have tried to sneak in to a Walrus at some point, but don't think I'll be taking that risk in the future. :D

Slap bang in the middle is
    Drumpot
, earning 8 points, with their selection of Tender by Blur

Barney's Comments: This sounded very familiar to me but I couldn't quite recognise the songe until the first set of 'come ons' came on. Wouldn't be my first choice as a song to get me into a good mood but it is a lovely song.

Kingsley's Comments: Solid choice here. To be honest I never really though about it as a pick me up song because of the tempo but listening to it in that context helps me see it in a different way. Wouldn't necessarily be my choice to get me in a good mood though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

    In ninth place is
    MicksJaguar
, earning 8 points, with their selection of You’ll be in My Heart by Phil Collins

Barney's Comments: Now I do like Phil Collins's voice. This song feels like a nice hug. I prefer the gentler parts of it rather than the chorus, but it is a good song.

Kingsley's Comments: I’m not Phil Collins' biggest fan at all really. So much so that I didn't know this was his song. I've never been wild about it but can see how it could help put a smile on someone's face.

    Just above mid table for
    Ectoplasm
, earning 9 points with their selection of Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel

Barney's Comments: The way this starts out sort of brings me down a bit to be honest. I like Billy Joel but I'd choose some of his other to get me into a good mood. However after a few minutes it does start to pick up and get a bit jazzier. If I'd been listening to this song just by myself though I'm not sure I'd have made it to the more lively parts.

Kingsley's Comments: The sender said this is like 3 songs in 1. And I love all three songs. I have used this already a few times in the last couple of weeks to flip the switch. Great choice. Never knew it was Billy Joel.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

Clinging on to a top ten finish is
    Spook_ie
, earning 7 points with their selection of Don't Stop Me Now by Queen

Barney's Comments: This is one I have heard a lot and can see how people love it but it's not my favourite. It does fit the theme nicely but I'm just not a massive fan of it unfortunately. I like how they got Fahrenheit into a song, but it's not my favourite temperature scale. I like the 'don't stop me, don't stop me, don't stop me' part

Kingsley's Comments: So I’ve just heard this song so many times and I've never really been wild on it. Can understand why this would really work for some people just not necessarily me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

    Top six finish for
    LeVarBurton
, earning 10 points with their selection of Dumb Things by Paul Kelly

Barney's Comments: Strong start to this one, not sure about the lyrics getting me into a good mood but the beat is very lively throughout and that does the job.

Kingsley's Comments: Great choice here. Never heard it before and not sure I've ever really listened to Paul Kelly. Great guitar, drums and beat in general. This will be used in future.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

Just missing out on the top ten is
    Necrina
, earning 5 points with their selection of Can’t stop the feeling by Justin Timberlake

Barney's Comments: I'm not a huge fan of this song, I've just heard it too much but even so I can't stop bopping my head to it. It's the sort of song that if I was queueing somewhere it would make me tap my feet and make me forget the queue.

Kingsley's Comments: I have a soft spot for Justin Timberlake. But I really do not like this song. I remember despising it went it come out. That has not changed. Pretty spot on for the theme though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

    In fifth place is
    Prisca
, earning 11 points with their selection of Gibraltar by Beirut

Barney's Comments: Interesting intro, ooh I like that piano. This could be onto a winner. Ooph, I'm not a huge fan of the singer's voice unfortunately, it comes too close to vocal fry for me. It's a shame because I love the tune behind it, which would by itself get me into a good mood.

Kingsley's Comments: Oh I do love Beirut and this would be one of my favourites. Whenever I listen to them it does just put me in a good mood! Easy good score here. Great choice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

    In twelfth place is
    Pretzill
, earning 4 points with their selection of Superpower by Adam Lambert

Barney's Comments: Can't say I really like this one. I can see how some might be put into a good mood by this, but I wouldn't be. Don't really like the chorus here, the verses are alright but not a massive fan.

Kingsley's Comments: Can definitely see how this could put you in a good mood. I am just not overly wild about the song, unfortunately.
