Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Carer's shortage?

    Is there a carer's shortage? My father, who had a stroke a few months back, was expecting to be discharged tomorrow from a hospital for the elderly. He needs two carers and was told today that they have no home help in place. He has told the hospital that he is leaving this weekend, carer or no carer. He is a high risk in terms of falls.

    Yes there is

    The HSE have not hired enough of them due to chronic underfunding and poor planning

    Often you have to take what the hse offer and supplement it with private carers in addition

    This could simply mean that they have not organised it, not that there is a shortage - though there could well be. Not having home help in place is an admin thing that you will likely have to chase up and be a bit insistent about.

    He had been told by the hospital that he would be getting out today. The hospital hadn't told him that he wasn't.

    He had the stroke in February. He has been in a room on his own and has only be outside to get his vaccine. We get one window visit a week. He is becoming increasingly aggressive in the past couple of weeks, stroke related or frustrated, we don't know yet. Tbh I think that they would be delighted to get him out but the help is just not there, he is not an easy patient.

    You need to liaise with both the social worker and his community nurse.
