remember dave fannings' "the movie show" on rte, they used review movies and show clips, then dave would provide his insight. well a strange thing occured on a 1997 screening of the show. the show used be on about 6 or 7 and was shown early in the week and a repeat of it was shown a few days later. well anyway back in 1997 a friend of mine swore that on a review of the film "private parts" they showed a clip where this one got her tits out. none of us believed him so we all watched the repeat and sure enough they showed a scene where this woman sits on a loud speaker while howard stern hummms into it, she has a very audable orgasm and rips open her top revealing a set of hugest finest breasts our young eyes had ever seen.
i still find this very weird, especially since noone complained and it got shown twice. anyone else remember it.

I don't remember that. BUT I do remember the time that there was supposed to have been a feature length animated movie shown on Dempsey's Den (during the time of Zig and Zag) and they showed a pr0n movie by mistake!!
I think that it was during the summer hols, (Ian D., Zig and Zag weren't around during the holidays), and it always appeared to me that they just ran different videos of cartoons and shows automatically with nobody introducing them and no talking bits between the shows.
Someone put the wrong video in the machine that day!! :p

It doesn't surprise me if RTE did show a clip from Private Parts during the day... everyone know's there's usually shoite on Irish TV at the best of times and hardly anyone takes any notice. ;)

RTE has a history of not looking at what they're broadcasting, about 6-7 years back they screened what they thought was a light comedy TV movie in the mid-afternoon. It was a light comedy but one made for HBO or Showtime and so full of effing and blinding. I think Jim Belushi was in it, anyway at having got some phone calls they pulled the plug!

    Dopes!

i never forget the day i put in a new shrink wrapped blank video and found it wasnt blank.A very interesting film it was too.

Thats was an great purchase on my behalf day.

another thing i love doing is going though the unlabelled blank videos in the house and see what retro shows are on them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭pork99

ah RTE don't ya love 'em?

They do have a tendency to be a bit careless with where they put their pr0n.

I did a student work experience placement in their design department. I worked on their only Apple Mac computer as I was the only one around who seemed to know how to use it (well this was a decade ago).

One morning a rotund little man in a flowery blouse flounced into the office. He asked me to scan something for him. I said fine, no problem, I opened the scanner and imagine my shock & surprise at finding on the flatbed an A4 format glossy magazine of some very gay pornography.

I stare at this open-mouthed , it was one of those situations were you cannot believe your eyes. Flowery-blouse man pouts and says "What are you embarrassed about? It's only a few lads having a bit of fun with each other".

The two designers in the office, both women, were helpless with laughter at this stage. It was a set up I'm sure. Ha bloody ha.

I think my unforgettable radio moment (as listener) (aw god amnesia lane - probably 1994 or so) on the Gerry Ryan Show - where do want to be buried? - one caller - "Up to me bollix in Bibbi Baskin" :-)

That's hard to believe. That would surely have been a newsworthy item (and possibly a sacking offence for someone in RTE at the time) for the papers at the time.

Do you have verifiable sources for this?

Last year on some random report on the 6.01 news about some court case, there was a bit where it was obvious that a piece of fottage has been accidentally deleted. The screen flickers for a few seconds and a light "F*CK!" is heard in the background.

Repeated on the 9.00 news in true RTÉ style.

I can't remember what proggy it was - it was on RTE1 or 2 and was some kids/teens trendy TV program - possibly in the Swap Shop vain on a Saturday morning?

Anyway, people would ring in - and some guy was on the line, and after a few frustrating hello?s, the guy just burst in to stream of foul language abuse. RTE being so on the ball didn't manage to cut him off until he'd vented for what seemed like a 30 seconds but it was probably only 5.

I'll never forget the presenters face :)

I remember that bit from private parts on the Movie Show. I also remember people talking about the cursing thing being shown during the day and the complaints etc. That was at least 7 years ago.

You can watch Fashion TV if you want to see boobs at any time of the day. On BBC daytime I remember they once had a doctor demonstrating how to check for breast cancer on a live subject. That was a nice surprise.

I also remember on RTE daytime news someone was being interviewed about nightly violence in the North and he said there were "nightly orgas...orgies of violece."

I'm old enough to remember RTE news using maps to illustrate news bulletins which were printed onto pieces of card and propped up in front of a camera. One evening a map of Cambodia or Afghanistan fell over revealing the brieze block wall behind it :D

(that sort of this is done by Paintbox computers nowadays - the maps & graphics not the brieze blocks)
I also remember on RTE daytime news someone was being interviewed about nightly violence in the North and he said there were "nightly orgas...orgies of violece."

    I heard this on BBC Radio;

"In Wimbledon today Steffi Graf beat Martina Navratilova in straight sex... err straight sets"

Also on dave fannings show they ended a show by showing a clip from the saturday night movie "Butterflys and Angels" (I think thats its name, it has patsy kensit in it). Anyways the clip showed a full frontal naked Patsy standing before a bed, then a fully clothed man came over kissed her and they both fell back to the bed.

She was a presenter on RTE back in the late 80s/early 90s, she developed a bit of a following among country gents of a certain age. She quit to do tother things after she felt her RTE career was'nt going anywhere.

time to roll out this old chestnut/urban myth

Gerry Ryan: (during a discussion on whether people would like to be buried
or cremated when they die) - "Would you like to be buried or cremated?"
    Caller: "Oh, buried Gerry."
Gerry Ryan: "And where would you like to be buried?"
Caller: "Up to me balls in Bibi Baskin!"

heard this on tv once on one of them bloppers shows.

A breakfast show weather man announced that the area was supoosed to get 6" inches of snow that day.The next day the female presenter asked the weatherman "So Bob where was that 6" you promised me yesterday. The weatherman burst into the laughter and the presenter goes what have i said and didnt know what to do.

Not sure if its true but its damn funny.

This was actually a film called "Dead Solid Perfect" and it starred Randy Quaid. The only reason I remember is because it was in our local video shop, and it was 15's (15's!) and I was terribly shocked when I saw it was on at 4.15 on a weekday afternoon.

Does anyone remember another controversy when RTE2 (or Network 2, whatever) showed a Roman Polanski film (possibly Repulsion) at like 10.00 on a Saturday morning? It had tits and everything!

Also, Reeling In The Years showed a clip a few weeks ago of people naked at the Forty Foot. They showed it at 6.30! The scandal!

I remember it was around 1998-ish, during the summer. 10am some random morning. 15 year old me watchin d'telly. Some documentary thing about japanese culture is on net2. "Hmm.. this could be interesting. Technology, samurai etc.." methinks. So watching it for a few minutes. The program then decides to outline their bathing practices. It demonstrated with two young japanese women coming out, stripping off and soaping themselves up. It was apparently important to know that they clean and themselves before they get in the bath. Once this was emphasised the commentator just let them get on for a while soaping themselves up and rinsing off completely starkers, everything on show. I was lovin it obviously (15!).

In retrospect it was a little strange, the style and tone of the programme was akin to a nature documentary?!

I know it's not about the Movie Show, but does anyone remember that music show Dave Fanning did in the morning on one of the weekend days? 2TV or something. Well they were showing a new Boyzone video and Dave Fanning must have forgotten to turn off his mike or something, because he remarked something like "They're really crap, aren't they?" It was so funny!
Also there was the time on the Den Zig and Zag were suspended for a week bceause one of them said "F*ck"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,432 ✭✭✭Steve_o

Lol Zig and Zag were suspended for swearing thats funny sh*t, only in RTE would that happen,,,,also Dave Fanning is a tool and should have lost his job several years ago!!!

I was listening to ray darcy and they were having some discussion about bouncy castles. Anyway one of the women that he has presenting with him said that they wanted to have a "romp" in the bouncy castle. The other woman presenter then told a story about asking her friend "Where was the most uncomfortable place she ever had sex" to which the answer was "Up the arse".

I almost crashed the feckin car....

They once showed the 1971-Irish-UK-Spanish film of BLACK BEAUTY with Mark Lester off Oliver and Patrick Mower yer man Rodney in Emmerdale a year or two ago on the DEN/TRTE on saturday morning and kept in the word "bastard". They also showed the 1974 And Then There Were None/Ten Little Indians from the same producer, Harry Alan Towers, which had some blood and Richard Attenborough hanging himself.
And The People That Time Forgot, with cavegirl Dana Gillespie's wonderful gazongas?

Anyone remember this series that was on RTE 1 round about 1985/86 ish called Summer Lightning?I think it was a co production with Channel 4.Anyway it was a period drama set in Victorian times but the funny thing is there was some fierce frank use of language and very racy scenes in it and if I'm not mistaken it was shown in the early evening and one scene in particular sticks in my mind. There was an upper class gent type fella who was married and having it away with another woman. His wife was imploring him in this scene"F.....k ME" (As opposed to his fancy woman) and she said it several times too.

    Edit:Heres a link about the series.It was a U Cert?

That reminds me of a documentary I saw on Network 2 in the late 80's when I was about 14.Not sure what the overall theme of the doc was but there was a bit about prostitution in Amsterdam and they showed this very attractive woman disrobing and getting into a jakkuzi with a baldy middle aged fella and for a few seconds you could see her full frontal everything.(thankfully baldy lad was already in the jakkuzi so we were spared him)They then interviewed her with her very large breasts prominently on display. The awful thing is that my Grandmother was with me watching it,I was torn between wanting to stare and squiriming in embarrasment. My Nan was totally taken aback as you can imagine as I dont think there was any sexual content up to this.

Can't remember what radio show it was in the 90's, could have been Gareth O Callaghan, but a guy came on air and requested a song because he was celebrating his first job- when asked what kind of Job he said " me first blow job"

Cirque Du Soleil, when they were very new and small-ish, down in Cork, may have been the late 80s, early 90s.

RTE 1, News at Six. Tea-time tits. Trapeze, Cartwheels and fun bags. The cameraman's panning was like a laser guided drone.. :D

RTE 1 showed Carry On England years ago, and obviously forgot to cut a scene, where the female soldiers suddenly sat up in bed, showing their breasts.

If this is going to be tits on telly memories, then I submit as evidence a documentary the BBC made about Auguste Rodin. This would be back in the early 1970's.

Not much room for controversy there you might think. However the filmakers chose to illustrate the piece by showing numerous shots of young ladies disporting themselves in the altogether.

Also, around the same time ITV showed a documentary about Andy Warhol. Well flagged in advance was the fact that female bits would be on show, and needless to say the multichannel areas got ready to be outraged.

Film4 have shown the Éric Rohmer film The Green Ray (Le Rayon vert) in the 11am slot a few times. The film has a 20min+ beach scene with tonnes of topless women, including one of the leads.
Obviously there is nothing sexual about the nudity in that context, but it was still surprising to see on a freeview channel that early in the day.

There's a brief flash of Jane Seymour and Taryn Power's breasts in family adventure Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977); also in Clash of the Titans (1980) there's a nipple-visible breastfeeding and nude walk scene at the start, then a brief female bathing exit later. These films are often shown early on in the day and I'm pretty sure I've seen them both uncensored on terrestrial TV.

I wonder if any complaints were made? You'd want to be pretty repressed to think of complaining about any of those instances (though I wouldn't bet against it). The BBC only received four complaints for showing The Merchant of Venice (2004) at 2pm despite lots of bawdy toplessness. It's interesting to note that the film is Rated R in the USA but only PG here.

Ha that brings back memories of when Clash Of The Titans was shown on RTE 1 on an early slot some time in the late 80s.My 13/14 year old self was very taken with the scene towards the end where the female lead is being prepared for being sacrificed to the Kraken and shes with her handmaidens in her chamber.Theres a brief scene where shes getting into a robe in the buff and theres a full nude shot of her from behind.

what about all the streakers that used to go running about whenever there was a major sporting event being televised. lots of football matches in the 70's used to have em, I remember a very pretty blonde streaking through a tennis court during Wimbledon and of course the infamous streaker during the Oscars in '74 when David Niven was due to present an award!!
