Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have read Boards for years, but it was following your Games that prompted me to sign up. I have followed them all, and found them hugely entertaining. I thought I might be missing something by not being signed in :D No, I do not want to play, even after following them all, I'm still no wiser how you all work out the goodies from the baddies, and the Roles from the last one fried my already shrinking brain!

I hope you don't make them private, as I'm sure there are many more following them without wanting to play.

Well done to all,I'm looking forward to the next one. :)

Ah jasus you're making people sound too smart here. AFAIK, most people just blather their way through the game and kill everyone until they hit a bad guy.

    Except Tigger. He's a savant.

Hi and welcome! :) Even if you don't want to play but you'd like to follow and discuss the game, you should ask for dead room access for the next game! It's a lot of fun because you can see how clueless everyone else and see all the theories without actually being under pressure to play. I've played three of the four games (though I was killed early enough in one) but sat in the dead room for the other and it was great craic! All said though, I've defo gotten better at the game, game 1 me was completely clueless and wouldn't have picked up on the seer or priest hints in the last game!

It fried mine too! Once you're playing the game you have no option but to pay attention to the roles. I spent last game with a separate tab on on the OP so I could swap back easily and clarify roles.

The amount of times I had posts written only to delete them after reading them for fear that I was giving something away!

By all means keep watching but take the plunge and jump in if you like - it's great fun and worth participating at least once just for the experience.

Thankfully I stumbled across the first game that Jayop posted in AH - the best thing to come out of AH since the 'safe thread'.

EDIT: You can put your username to the test too ;)

It's a lot easier when you're playing, you should give it one go at least, if we have a simpler game maybe to begin but CJ and someone else jumped right into the last one, by far our most complex and got on perfectly fine.

Could we run just a simple game a-la WWI for new people? And then unleash the complexity for Christmas?

My username was born out of frustration when the many names I put in were already taken, annoyed, I put this one in and Voila :D

I'm happy to just follow for now, and just so you know, I did have you down as a baddie :)

Chagan was the other. I commented in the DR that both did great. I do think the OPs of every game are very daunting when you first read them, but agree that once you're in the midst of the game, it all starts to come together. Molly is right though, except for Tigger, I think we're all more-or-less using a bit of guess work and a bit of luck to get through it.

A WW1-esque game for the next game might not be such a bad thing. There is somewhat a danger of this forum becoming a bit cliquey, so opening it out to newbies with a simpler version, once every few games probably is a good idea. A good few of us now have Mahama's signature so hopefully word will spread.

I actually think this is a great idea. No point in making it too daunting for some.

It would also afford a great opportunity for others to get experience at modding a game.

    I must copy mahamas sig.

Yeah but Tigger could be a problem in a simple game, it'd be over in an hour. :pac: The complexity was his kryptonite.

Can we gag him for at least an hour then to give the game a chance :D

+1 to this idea. The last game was incredibly complex.

(Am I the only one who reads WWI as World War I? - it's actually what caught my eye with the first game. I thought, what the hell is a World War I game?)

Sorry, I use the Vanilla name as over on a forum called two plus two they play werewolf and basic games are called Vanilla so they know they are basic rules.

I take it no one liked the different format that was used in WW2?

Was thinking of combining the voting schedule form with the other rules from WW2. I think it would work well.

No I do too, I said that in another thread! :P I'm also up for a chill game, people have surely gotten a bit better at bluffing by now so it'll be interesting.

Oh, I liked WW2 too, MrsF. Except for the powerplay that is :):p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭crosstownk

I've liked all formats of the four games to date. However, each game has increased in complexity which might be off putting to new players so having a 'Vanilla' game every now and then wight be a good idea. The more players that join up the better - fresh blood ;) and all that.

Nah, just get the GM to email him every morning telling him his role has now changed --- watch all hell break loose.

My hubby created the powerplay, was fine at the time to explain but hard for others to understand. Created a lot of confusion. I didn't want to use it but we tried it anyway lol.

What we could do is a quick fire vanilla game so we can introduce noobs to the game before we play a more complex game. I am still at home as not started looking for a job yet so am willing to run one like that if others agree?

    sounds good to me.
Do we have many "noobs" in the mix for the next game?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Jayop

Boards.ie Mark has just explained the WW game better and more concisely than anyone who I've seen play a game has ever done.

I was getting the next game prepared but I can put my game on hold for the Christmas extravaganza if you'd prefer. What we do need to do is start a thread that Sully can edit the OP in and start planning when the games are coming up and who is modding them so we don't have this "who's running it" every time.

Shall we do WW V as the quickfire vanilla game so?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

I think a vanilla game is good, but don't see why it needs to be quickfire. WW1 lasted a week, like all others since.

We could probably get a quickfire game up and running this weekend if everyone who signed up was agreeable. I can set the forums up for MrsFD and then log out.

I'm using quickfire more in terms of setting the game up and probably with a smaller number of players. The list currently stands at around 18 for the game.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Ah, I getcha now. Just checked the list and only Degrassi and Mr.Molly (:p) are noobs, at least on Boards. I've no idea how much experience they have outside of that.

But maybe some of the others who've lurked around, Strawberry Milkshake springs to mind, would be tempted by a simple version to get them going?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Jayop

I'd love to start a thread on AH but I asked before to unlock the old sign up thread and was told that was a no go. Pain in the arse but the people who acted like dicks in the original game thread would get their knickers in a twist again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,994 ✭✭✭sullivlo

Maybe just start a thread with a link to the forum?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Jayop

I'd love to because I think it's easily the best place to get recruits but I'd be worried that I'll get yet another infraction if I do. My record is checkered enough already thanks to political threads and the odd football one :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,880 ✭✭✭MrsFlushdraw

I just posted on my FB page as well, there are a few who used to play years ago that don't post on the other forums any more. Hopefully we can get some interest and some fresh blood for a game!

Thank crunchie it's Friday. Friday only means one thing.

Mocha with marshmallows from the coffee shop in work. So unbelievably tasty so they're my Friday treat.

It makes work somewhat bearable too. Win win.

    Ah good old casual Friday.

When I was an undergrad I had to do a 6 month work placement. It was in a science company but a lot of my work initially was at a desk, so I was informed I had to wear office attire.

Nobody told me about casual Friday on my first week :(

It's not so much casual Friday, but we rarely have meetings foisted upon us on Fridays so I take a chance... I am risk taker like that :pac::p

I'm also feeling the Friday feeling! Especially coz I'm at a conference all week next week, kinda feels like holidays! :) I'm also a Friday jeans wearer, yeah for casual Friday!!
