She definitely is not a talented writer, she really needs to do some sort of writing course- her grammar, etc is terrible at times.

Also it kind of bothers me that she seems to give everything she reviews 5/5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭Greenduck

I'm definitely 50/50 on this one! I follow her on Facebook and Instagram and find that I do read most of her reviews and have bought some items from her recommendations. I think she seems like a nice girl and probably speaks to her readers the way their friends do, that's why she is so popular! Her style is very mainstream and sometimes bordering on tacky but thats a matter of taste so she cant be judged on that.

What it increasingly annoying me is the self-indulgent/show-offy posts and pictures she is putting up. For example, she got a Louis V bag and I think I counted 10 different images she had managed to squeeze it into. The - 'Not only did I get one pair of Louboutins...I actually got three!'. Fair play to anyone who works hard to afford these nice things, but it doesn't endear her to me and its not what I want to read about when I have holes in my coat pockets and my penny's bag is on its last legs. Its almost like shes trying to make her readers jealous of her fabulous lifestyle and designer gear rather than inspire.

I often see girls comment..'wow your such an inspiration' or 'your who I want to be' etc etc and it makes me quite sad. These girls (young and old) idolise someone who places more importance on the newest designer items, or their new Audi than on self worth, intelligence or integrity. It seems its more important to have nice things, be slim, have the longest hair, the shortest skirt these days than anything else.

Thats just how things are these days though I suppose!

I will say one thing for her- she did a very good post before Christmas about buying a puppy ie what a huge responsibility they are and they are for life, not just for Christmas. She seems like a genuine responsible dog owner and gave good advice about how to find a good dog breeder. I'd like if she did more stuff like that- something slightly deeper than just clothes and makeup etc.

Great, thread so I'l add my 2 cents.

Really enjoyed Sue's earlier posts like a lot of readers but I have to agree that the substance seems to have greatly diminished of late. What I'm not liking is mainly

-Lack of fashion week updates, doesn't seem to have any actual technical knowledge of fashion
-Kardashian wannabe. Gorgeous girl but the ridiculous extensions WAG look is a bit dated.
-Clearly, a lot of posts are sponsored and blatantly so and biased so I find it difficult to trust reviews.
-More fashion and less puppy / new desk / new phone posts would be great.
    -Terrible grammar.

I really do have a lot of admiration for how far Sue has gotten and her success within Ireland but I am beginning to slightly think that she has developed 'big fish, small pond' syndrome. She definitely knows that her market is predominantly teenage girls and has played to this (knock off Birkin) but the whole TOWIE look is getting dated and it would be great to see her evolve and actually develop as a blogger as recently some of the bodycon dresses posts in particular as just chavtastic and not remotely stylish.

I have also noticed the use of other images which clearly are not hers and not credited.....not a good look.

I never log onto her website, just facebook and despite the above, I do enjoy her updates but would love to see an improvement also.

Just clicked through to this for first time the other day. I did like the floral jumpsuit although I could never wear in a million years. Overall that whole concept of style is not mine. So its not for me. I'm just not into disposable clothes or louis Vuitton bags (i think obvious brands are tacky for most part).

  • Registered Users Posts: 218 ✭✭gossipgirl10

Someone mentioned earlier that they thought someone must have told her about this thread that she was now replying to people a lot more than previously and I definitely noticed the same thing of late. But now I find it's gone too far in the other direction at times ie. someone comments on a picture saying "OMG where did you get your top??" and she will reply "penneys hun!" then a few comments later someone asks the same question again because they haven't bothered reading the other comments and again she replies "penneys hun xx". If you have answered a question once you don't have to keep answering it... Most bloggers will post a picture of an outfit and say Top Zara, skirt topshop etc as more than likely people will want to know where items are from and it's not practical to have to reply to every individual comment...

You will notice a distinct lack of replies though when someone asks her where she got something on a picture that she has copied from someone elses blog / pinterest...

Yeah she's definitely read the thread-she seems to spend her time posting passive aggressive images about "haters" to her instagram feed. Her brother and sister also openly attack anybody who criticises her on social media-adding to the tacky thing. They defo want a "keeping up with the jacksons" series I think- hilarious.

Great thread guys, about time negative attention was drawn to this materialistic and clearly self motivated and indulgent quest towards stardom (I just read about the gucci bangle-classy).Sickening.

That's a bit harsh. You could call any fashion/beauty blog a "materialistic and clearly self motivated and indulgent quest towards stardom".

SoSueMe.ie is not a beauty/fashion blog . It's a website about the life of some girl I'm sick of hearing about. No genuine beauty blogger grabs expensive bangles from their readers and then boasts about it.

I completely agree with the above. She started off as a fashion blogger & I loved her penneys vids but lately it feels more like a wannabe celeb blog... in my opionion there isn't much difference between her twitter/instagram and those dolls from Geordie Shore/Made in Chelsea. Everything is endorsed & the whole copying from other blogs is getting tiresome, that fab beyonce pic yesterday with the caption was copied from another blogger! Wish she would just go back to the way her blog was at the start! I've stopped following her for that very reason but doesn't stop her coming up on my feed.

"What worries me more is the innane reception she receives from the average Irish Woman.."fab hun, fab sue". It worries me that the average Irish woman is now aspiring to be a materialistic and vapid entity- regramming empty motivational quotes and pictures of unicorns and smoothies! Now more than ever, we need women in Ireland in representitive roles and politics. Yes, her mindless twattering is everywhere at the moment, hopefully she will go away soon."

this x million. It makes me so sad! Especially since after the last few years, we should have lost our focus on material crap and have a better perspective on the important things in life.....

Agree with the commentators who were disgusted with the bangle incident. It was a Gucci one btw. Whatever possessed that young fan to spend that kind of money on a sub-par blogger, but to parade it on the net like that was disgusting. I am also surprised by how horrible her siblings are to commentators who post an alternative opinion, even if it's not a rude one.

Finally, its really not on how so many posts are quite clearly sponsored, but she rarely highlights that fact, if ever???? From reading other, admittedly higher profile blogs, this is not something that bloggers get away with anymore! And using other sites photos without acknowledging it, surely if blogging is your job, these are the basics you should know??

The family attacking people making negative thoughts is so sad. She really needs to reign them in if she wants to keep any credibility.

I've heard of her, but wasn't really familiar with her so after reading this thread I checked out her blog.

In the reviews section- every single thing she reviews has 5 stars! That alone just shows she has absolutely no credibility as a blogger/reviewer.

If her family are attacking commenters that's incredibly pathetic.

This kind of thing is pretty much the reason I've stopped reading blogs altogether- when any dissenting opinion is written off as someone being a hater and attacked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

Do all the critics realize that more you click on her blog and more you write about it more publicity and traffic she is getting. From what I can tell she is promoting the same WAG style as Look or any other tabloid around. Fashion and beauty are two areas where huge amount of sponsored goods can be found. She is hardly an exception, she is part of the culture. Just stop reading her and she will go away.

I've looked her blog a few times and dislike her more and more each time I view it.

A friend of mine adores her blog, website and Sue herself, would talk about her all day if she could. Drives me mad when she starts yapping about her. :o

I've never really understood why she has/needs a team. I wouldn't have thought that the blog was that big.

I think I just dislike the whole culture behind her style of blogging and 'fashion'. Every second comment on her facebook is 'fab girl' or 'bang on trend'. It all just makes me cringe so much, how people seem to just go mad to purchase something just because she has a post on it is absolutely ridiculous. Also the clearly stolen photos etc. are crazy for such a high profile blog, you'd think she'd have been advised better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭The Cool

I agree with all the above - if you're a fashion blogger it should be, here are some on-trend bits that I picked up on the high street, this is how I styled them... fashion inspiration etc. Instead it's all, look at all the pretty things I have now. More like a wannabe of Kim Kardashian's instagram account.

How do you know it wasn't posted by Sue herself?

Pink banner above the post says someone called Samantha Gibbons posted it.
Surely Sue, as the blog's namesake and main writer, reads over and checks all the posts put up on the blog?

Maybe she does and just doesn't read the particular blog it came from, so wouldn't know it's been plagiarised. Maybe she doesn't because she trusts the people who are employed to write for her website. I have no idea.

There just seems to be a lot of hate for her as a person, fine if her style isn't to someone's taste (wouldn't be mine either), but obviously a lot of people like it and that's how she makes her living. Plenty of people don't necessarily deserve their fame/wealth/success or whatever, but if they're not hurting anyone then let them at it. Each to their own.

  • Registered Users Posts: 218 ✭✭gossipgirl10

I find it hard to believe that anyone would really "hate" her in fairness hate is a very strong word.. but it just seems like anyone who disagrees with her or isn't the blogs biggest fan is automatically branded a hater and I think she feeds into the whole drama around it by posting all those quotes about haters gonna hate.... people are jealous blah blah... that kind of thing only encourages people more to try and get a reaction out of her.

But yes it's quite ironic really that her book is about how to go about blogging (I haven't read it but I believe from the description that that is covered in it?) yet she is copying things from other blogs without crediting them which I'm sure is the first thing you should not be doing as a successful blogger...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,331 ✭✭✭Ilyana 2.0

I don't think people hate her, for the most part. I don't really like the blog or her style but that's only a matter of personal taste; plenty more do enjoy her blog. I have to give her kudos for just getting her name out there when everyone and their dog has a blog these days.

I think the issue is the way she appears to go about conducting her social media. Seemingly plagiarising other blogs, not answering genuine queries about things she might not want to talk about, accepting the Gucci bracelet. If she wasn't doing these things, people would just say 'Oh she's not for me but more power to her'.

To be honest I just don't think she expects most of her followers to pick up on stuff like that

  • Registered Users Posts: 73 ✭✭Terry Wogans Inner Thigh

No hate for the girl at all, she needs to be open to critique it she is going to promote a fashion blog though. The blog itself is not for me, it looks like a cheaper version of VIP magazine.

The plagiarism indicates a serious lack of moral integrity though.

She's a very average looking girl with a talent for self promotion, lots of people make a career out of less, for example Katie Price or Kerry Katona. I used to think that in a way, that kind of tenaciousness was admirable, but not anymore when I look at how cretins like Spencer from MIC can make a career out of being a talentless moron with a few quid.

It's sad that young girls want to be like this Sue, as she just appears to be greedy, vapid and lacking in any kind of moral or professional integrity.

Have followed Joanne along time now and noticed this happening more than once in the early SoSueMe days. As far as I can remember Joanne herself had a post on her Facebook page on how a blog post she had just done on her New year resolutions had been blatantly copied by another blogger - SoSueMe done the same article the next day, same pictures, pretty much same everything. Joanne was flooded with comments from people to say they knew exactly who she was referring to and to rise above it. As has been mentioned above a writer for SoSueMe, Samantha Gibbons, got involved and slated Joanne who ended up deleting the post after the SoSueMe family friends etc got involved shortly after.

Nosy of me I know but if you look here you will see at SoSueMes 1st Birthday Party about three years ago, I imagine before she hit the big time, they seemed to have been friends.

I remember a few months ago she done a search for a intern. I thought it was strange as she doesn't seem big enough and she works from home,

I'm shocked that her and glam fairy use to be friends. It's pretty ****ty to copy your friends work and pass it as your own.

I posted a comment on her page last year asking if the item she was promoting was real fur. I got abuse back from her telling me that it was her decision to wear what she liked and If I had a problem with that I could take a hike and then she blocked me
I didn't at any point say I was against it (I am though) and it was a genuine question as it was one of the rare items I liked of hers but I guess as I wasnt praising her either she didn't like it.

I spotted the article that appeared on SoSueMe shortly after being on Joanne Larby's blog. It really annoyed me, so I emailed her about it. She reckons it was a press release sent by Penney's to 'all bloggers'. Pity it wasn't acknowledged as such.

Hmm! Well her reply to my email was rather curt (to the point of being rude) so she hasn't exactly risen in my estimation  It's a pity so many young (and not so young) girls hold her in such high regard, she strikes me as a fairly charmless individual!

This may sound slightly arse holey of me but I've looked back over her site and twitter the last couple of days and I can't help but be really infuriated by her. I wish she could realise the platform she has to really influence teen girls, for instance I saw a comment on her twitter feed from a young fan saying "I wish I could be you" or something to that effect, and her response was something like "Not today, I'm really sick". Is she really that self absorbed that she couldn't have replied with something more humble, that would give the girl some sort of confidence boost or something. Too much of these inspirational bs quotes that are completely empty!! Its really worrying that this is what girls find desirable.... Don't get me wrong I adore watching the Kardashians (and not afraid to admit it!) but I don't think those sort of shows were around when I was at an impressionable age (says I at the grand ole age of 25).
My point is, I believe that as a woman, we should support each other at all turns, be nice to each other and not judge at face value. She just seems so far removed from that and I do think its really worrying that she is being celebrated for that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 218 ✭✭gossipgirl10

that's interesting about Penneys sending the press release to all bloggers. I did think a couple of weeks ago when she posted the piece about Penneys work out gear that it seemed to be written better than most of the usual posts so I would imagine someone from Penneys PR team wrote it and sent it on for her to use.

I had mentioned earlier in the thread that it was crazy that people were going mad asking where she got this and that no matter what she posted and a part of me was really hoping people were having a laugh and I do think now that some people are doing it taking the p**s :D for example the other day she posted a picture of herself and someone commented saying "oh my god what colour paint is that on your walls I've been looking for that exact shade forever" and Sue replied "Not sure think it's Cream hun!" now I am really hoping that that person was having a laugh :)

I just can't understand why some girls are so obsessed with her it's creepy I would imagine that these are the same type of girls that follow boy bands and cry hysterically if they ever get to meet them....

The other day she posted a picture of a bedroom with a laptop setup to watch the OC and perfectly arranged pancakes, milkshakes, orange juice etc that was clearly just her posting a picture from pinterest or wherever yet you still had people commenting on it going oh wow where did you get this or that... seriously come on people a bit of common sense would tell you that this isn't actually her room and she hasn't spent hours perfectly arranging all this food for a photo. How many bedrooms do they think she has in her apartment all styled differently. I can't believe that some people actually think that everything she posts is a picture or her or her house etc

The people writing the sarcastic comments about paint on the walls etc are her friends and family members! They are clearly taking the piss and making fun of all the young girls who are genuinely asking use where she gets the stuff, because she gets asked where she gets her stuff a lot. I've seen the same on her sisters page. Things like" wow where did you get that cushion sue "and then she would comment back "pmsl" or something like that. It's so rude if you ask me. That kind of thing has put me right off them.

Sorry I'm relatively new to her- I knew she had a book out based on her blog and that sometimes people I'm friends with on facebook would like her stuff so I'd see it pop up from time to time- but what's that actual point of what she does?

I just went on to her facebook page for the first time there- her make up and clothes are grand (not really my taste but they're fine) and then she posts the same kind of crap you see on joe.ie and her.ie, and the odd thing like someecards. Sure anyone could do that. Baffling as to how she's been so successful- I mean best of luck to her and all, I just don't see the point. Does she have an actual job?
