Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Breezy in Galway but nothing drastic.
    Just glad the rain stopped.

For now, more on the way. Nothing to get excited about here in Galway.

There will be a good few trees down with the ground saturated from all the rain before this. Big wind here in tipperary

Is that what we have now or on the way?

Pretty wild out alright, the gusts literally come out of nowhere. Surprised at the lack of power outages on the ESB powercheck app

    8pm

    Roaches point gusting 61 knots!

Crazy wind here in Laois, unexpected heavy stuff. Didn't feel safe driving under big trees as branches all over road expecting lots of trees down come morning.

Seriously strong gusts here on the kildare/laois border. Plenty of banging and rattles outside...power is flickering so probably a few tress down somewhere.
Strongest we have gotten in a while... definitely warrants more than a yellow warning here currently.

Looks like Cock City will get it bad if it's moving northwards

Gone fairly windy here outside Newport, Mayo. It rained all day in Castlebar but dried up as the wind increased.

Getting stronger as I type, still within the yellow warning territory but gusts are sustained.

Is it my imagination or is this possibly the worst storm of the season so far ?

Met eireann didn’t seem to flag it half as much as others which were not as eventful

Heavy rain again in cork city, wind has died down (EDIT: And its back, slightly). Seems to have turned south westerly now so could play a part in sounding better to.

Whats this about it coming around again down here?

Plenty of trees down according to Cork Safety Alerts. Careful if your driving

For now, more on the way. Nothing to get excited about here in Galway.

I'd say Galway is going to get the strongest winds between now and 10pm, worst is over for the south I would suggest

Very stormy in Moate at the moment, this appears the strongest wind so far this year

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭typhoony

anyone in Ennis right now, seems to be going through now heading NNW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,207 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

Cork over the worst. Gusting 36 knots .pressure on the way up ,983 hpa

Well lads I can tell you I definitely was not expecting this tonight. We are just outside Kilbeggan. The wind is howling outside. It didn't sound this bad with Darwin. Or any of this year's storms so far. Fingers crossed we keep the power. Mad out altogether

Most violent winds this year in North Kildare. All these storm warnings and nothing for a genuine event.

In Wexford just along the coast.

Its like an Indian Summer. Havin A Barbie.

    New warning Galway & Mayo

  • Registered Users Posts: 326 ✭✭laurah591

How come this event didnt get named? I know it might be short-lived but winds are high and Met Eireann have provided a weather warning on this one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,039 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

OK I take it back, it just turned wild in Galway as that band of rain has arrived.

Galway and Mayo next for strong winds before rapidly dieing out overnight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,039 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

Galway added to the orange warning, along with Mayo.
Don't know why I didn't see it until now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 758 ✭✭✭monster1

The sound of wheelie bins going walkies has increased here in Galway city

    A depression associated with Elsa.

Galway and mayo upgraded to orange from 9pm to 1am
Bit of a joke it has come so late

Is Elsa expected to be a significant event?

Violently gusty in Sth Galway at the mo!. Completely missed any updates on this “ storm” and it really sounds a lot worse then Atiyah out there!

It’s very windy with heavy squally showers in east Galway.
If this stays I’d be surprised if electric doesn’t go.
    Trees are fairly blowing

Elsa is over the atlantic, this is another low 'associated' with elsa aka to the east of it which is affecting us. Elsa was named by the portugese

Our side wood gate is after blowing off and splitting in half. Kids large slide blew on its side I hope it's not damaged because they love it - it has never blown over before so those gusts are pretty wild.
    Cork city

Very windy in Galway City, with some damaging gusts. A lot worse than the last two named storms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,970 ✭✭✭Storm 10

I've lost all confidence in ME at this stage when it comes to storms there all over the place

It’s ramping up in south mayo
    HOWLING down the chimney

Same in the sticks of east Galway

Highest gust here so far is 53mph/85kmh.
Not used to that level of wind from the SE/S
    Sounds angry out there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,172 ✭✭✭screamer

Awful rain all day, huge gusts of roof cracking wind. The poor icicle lights will be wrecked tonight on the laois/kk/Carlow border.

It’s also the perception of it. If you are not warned in advance & don’t read media hype pre storm arrival, and a storm hits unexpectedly you see how true storm conditions are. People aren’t indoors, they haven’t taken precautions in advance. There are more people out in the elements.
I think Met Eireann have done well, they can’t issue an orange wind warning for a storm that didn’t exist on their forecasting models even 2 days ago. The usual suspects would be on here with their weather warning debate and how it isn’t even too bad, etc.
