Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I called into a Toyota dealer early March to enquire about pricing, estimated quantity coming to Ireland, etc. The sales rep said pricing was around €25k. They thought I was enquiring about a Yaris Hybrid GR Sport :pac:

They've been in touch since to say that production is lined up for August, deliveries to Ireland for October and that spec is not a done deal at the moment. This however was a week before Corona-times. Who knows now how things will have changed.

Personally I think it's a very exciting car. There's nothing else like it on the market and it has the potential to be a future classic. Very interested to read/see some proper reviews to get a feel for how it drives.

    .

Any update on this? Is it actually possible to order the GR through the Irish dealers or will it have to be a UK import?
There's no information about the GR Yaris on Toyota.ie.

From what I've been told, yes they can be ordered through Irish Toyota network with first GR4 arrivals due in Oct/Nov. Pricing yet to be confirmed.

I was told next July by a guy working for Toyota last week but thought it should be sooner than that.

I’d be shocked if they make it as far as the dealers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭Pops_20

Digging up this thread again... the GR Yaris has made it on to the Toyota Ireland website - https://www.toyota.ie/world-of-toyota/toyotagazooracing/gr-yaris

It's getting great reviews from motoring journalists lately - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyfOupPZy64

It's the only new car within reach that has caught my interest since I started driving to be honest. As others have mentioned, it's probably going to be prohibitively expensive here compared to the UK.

Remember when rally cars were big saloon/hatch types now they're all so tiny.... Don't get it.

Believe it or not - aside from overall length it's bigger than a 6th gen celica gt4!

Is around €40k a bit optimistic? Just going by the GT86 prices in uk compared to when they sold them here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

    3dr only?

I'd add about 10k to that.

I'd add about 10k to that.

I'd agree. That presupposes it makes it here at all.

Looks like it'd be a lot of fun.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,707 ✭✭✭CR 7

Hopefully they sell enough uk ones that I can get my hands on one in 2/3 years. The finance rates look cheap enough over there that it should sell fairly well.

    Golf R money so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,767 ✭✭✭eljono

Standard model is going to be around €51k I was told by a Toyota dealer. Not sure yet how much the circuit pack will add to the price.

That's pure nuts for a bleeding Yaris though....

I get it, Toyota are reliable etc etc etc but no.....

10k at the very least shur as I posted earlier in the thread the GRMN yaris was €42k here so god knows how they'll price the GR.

It's more than a completely different chassis. The only parts it shares with a standard Yaris are the rear lights and one other part. This car was built by copying how a rally car is built and from the ground up instead of a standard car like say a Golf that is the turned into a GTi by adding faster parts to it and upgrading it. This yaris is designed from the ground up to be a very advanced fun little car.

It is a lot of money alright but this car is as someone else said bespoke and designed like I said from the ground up. The video on You Tube that explains it is an excellent watch.
If I won the lotto tomorrow I would buy one.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Why bother making it a Yaris then?

Homologation. I suppose they could have given it a bespoke name but did they need to really? Toyota have a long history of performance versions of their normal cars so I suppose its a throw back to that.

Seems to me Toyota want to have a right cut at the wrc and are willing to stump up the funds in design and development to perhaps gain a competitive edge by not using an existing platform.

Biggest thing against is that it’s a Yaris.

They've gone and done an escort cosworth on it, and tbf I'd have a normal yaris over a non Cossie Mk5/6 escort :pac:

You basically get a road legal (track) car with levels of control and agility cars double its price dream of.

Really has nothing to do with a Yaris apart the name :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

Its really half a Corolla and a custom front.
Carbon fibre polymer bodywork, fancy diff and a fair few horses and torques with it.
I wouldn't mind having one, the hardest part would be choosing between White/Pearl white, Red or Black.
Of course you'd have to get the track kit as well..

Geez that's good value compared to the Golf R at €62k ish for what it is.

It's VERY tempting for what it is, a car designed to be a hot hatch rather than a standard car converted into a hot hatch (no matter how well converted)

Oh, and it's got a PROPER handbrake!

I honestly think they should have brought it back as the Celica.... Mr2..... Something like that....

I honestly think they should have brought it back as the Celica.... Mr2..... Something like that....

But if they don't sell a current model Celica or MR2 then the halo effect isn't as strong.
At least with a Yaris branded car they have some marketing power, plus a lot of people that weren't following Toyota WRC back in the 90's won't have any interest in those names.
They already have an outlier in the BRZ/GT with no other running mates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,477 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Who’s gonna buy something else from the current lineup based on liking the GR?

I’m delighted to see them doing something bonkers for a change though.

Look at the ch-r they sell like hot cakes, something new will sell..... Obviously this not so much as it's nuts but I definitely would like....

The Irish price is now out according to a Dublin dealer:

    €50930 starting price.

But they're not gonna run ch-r in the wrc.

The gr is a "yaris" because they've ran the yaris platform since the return to the wrc in 2017.

Now by having this yaris gr they can push the boundaries even further with their wrc car.

Not awful bad really. Certainly not as dear as I thought Toyota Ireland would price it. I was thinking upwards of 60k tbh.

This is kinda cheating in a way though, building a road car based on WRF rather than the other way around.

All the best homologation specials are exactly that though -

    Cosworth Escort
    RS200
    Renault 5 Maxi
    Metro 6r4
    BX 4TC
    Stratos
    22B
    Etc...

So, €570 motortax, soon to be €750 I'd say.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

GTFO out of here with talk of tax rates and other crap. People complain that all modern cars are boring and the same and Toyota does something different and the complaints roll in..

    I do understand but a Yaris....grrr
