Try the Dorian Yates (#989) one.

I would recommend this episode as well

Joe Rogan Experience #1109 - Matthew Walker

"Matthew Walker is Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and Founder and Director of the Center for Human Sleep Science"

Started listening to this yesterday whilst out walking. I had heard about it on another podcast. Its interesting so far

    https://www.vulture.com/2019/01/the-last-days-of-august-podcast-review.html

    "About This Show
Jon Ronson, the creator of Audible Original The Butterfly Effect, delves into the pornography industry again as he unravels the never-before-told story of what caused a beloved 23-year-old actress’s untimely death."

Next on my list is the butterfly effect

    It's very good.

Anybody got any good podcasts that are informative but about a common subject. A lot of podcasts just touch the surface and while good to open your mind to stuff, don’t really offer a lot of practical use coz too superficial.

You should read his book "Why we sleep". Extremely interesting read.

Probably getting more into audiobook territory there.

I got it on audiobook on audible. It's fascinating. I'm nearly finished it but will prob listen again to it.

I was thinking about getting it on book as well

    The Butterfly Effect :

Halfway through it and its very interesting the different episodes and the people all over the world it effects.

Episode 4 is in particular quite sad
"What are the consequences of children’s unlimited access to free, easily accessible porn? Meet a mom who thinks 13 is too young to tell her daughter what she does for a living – until her daughter makes a discovery online. Then, Jon travels to Oklahoma, where one young man’s relationship to PornHub lands him in a veritable purgatory with few options for moving ahead."

    Highly recommend the podcast

Although they haven't uploaded anything new in a year, I'm enjoying the Still At Large podcast. A podcast that focuses on unsolved murders in the UK. The episode about the murder of Janet Brown I found particularly unsettling. https://player.fm/series/still-at-large-podcast-2313710/still-at-large-series-3-episode-2-janet-brown-1995

New podcast on Dublin history called 'Three Castles Burning'. Really enjoyed the first episode! 'The History of Ireland' is also a great addition to the Irish history podcast space.

Rte documentary on one. A national treasure. I'm 48 so being a bit older probably helps relate to a lot of them.

A scam for the ages in terms of the money involved! Ruja Ignatova called herself the Cryptoqueen. She told people she had invented a cryptocurrency to rival Bitcoin, and persuaded them to invest billions. Then, two years ago, she disappeared. Jamie Bartlett spent months investigating how she did it for the Missing Cryptoqueen podcast, and trying to figure out where she's hiding.

I couldn't agree more. So many brilliant, brilliant docs, most of them listenable to in the length of a commute or long walk.

The Irish are natural story tellers and RTE regularly win international awards for radio docs.

    I’m enjoying one from ABC.

The last voyage of the Pung Su. About a North Korean ship that attempted to bring 150kg of heroin into Australia

Not sure if it was mentioned already but "The Warren" is seemingly a collection of Irish Podcasts. I mentioned already I love the Critter Shed on it - but "The Warren" is a small but diverse collection of podcasts by Irish people.

Below is a single podcast which discusses - with short samples - the podcasts that are in "The Warren" so you get a good overview of them all to see if one of them interests you:

Always nice coming to this thread when I've run out of podcast episodes, some great recommendations above :)

There is a good one that was featured on 99% invisible called 'Cautionary Tales' - reminiscent of Malcolm Gladwell's books (indeed, he features in some of the dramatic recreations), stories about how things go wrong, and really drilling down into the build-up to some famous calamaties, some serious, some trivial.

Any uk political shows in the same vein as Callens kicks?

    Death in Ice Valley

It’s a BBC podcast. Really well made
Set in Norway - accents / background sounds really set the scene

    Nice and quick episodes too

Also .. casefile has been a bit hit n miss recently - but I thought episode 133 about the Lonergans was very good

Hesitant recommendation as I've only started listening. Danny Baker is back after being shot out of a cannon from BBC (the fuse lit by himself).

So if you're missing your light and breezy saturday morning fill The Treehouse is where you'll find him and Louise Pepper.

Same old nonsense. Red sauce, brown or no sauce at all?

    Call Me God

An Audible Original free podcast about the 2002 D.C. Sniper. Really well presented and in a lot of detail, runs over the course of 12 or so 30-40 minute episodes.

Going to give that one a go. Malcolm Gladwell is always a good listen, the podcasts even more so than the audiobooks I find, probably due to the the plot being condensed a bit more.

    ‘The assassination’

It’s about the assassination of Pakistan’s former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto.

It’s from the BBC World service

Hadn’t a clue who she was / or what happened but it’s fascinating!!

    The Poetry of Music Podcast

    https://www.facebook.com/poetryofmusicpodcast/

    https://soundcloud.com/user-195016657

Three Cork folks (assorted guests, with Stan and Dave as the hosts) select a particular artist and discuss their career, trivia about them and personal attachment to the music. The show features a local band performing a cover of one of the songs by the artist and Stan Notte writes a poem inspired by the artist's songs, which he performs to original local music to close the show. It's such a pleasant format and they're always really hilarious to listen to.

So far, they've done Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and I think Prince is next, or Bowie.

Not sure if people are into scripted podcast series but came across a couple of decent ones lately -

    "Hunted" is about a prison breakout and subsequent police manhunt, well acted & produced...found it entertaining;

"Blood Ties" - an interesting family/corporate mystery with a cliffhanger ending and a second series on the way

"Funny How" by Matt Morgan just started. He used to have a radio shoe with Russel brand. First episode is an interview with Noel Gallagher. Its entirely comedy oriented. I find him hilarious but I'm very familiar with him.

‘7 deadly sins’ with Stephen fry. Every episode he takes a sin and discusses it. It’s just a bit of a rant but it’s an eloquent entertaining one.

The audio quality is slightly off though. I'm no audiophile but I think he needs to put those sound dampener things on the walls of whatever studio/bedroom he records in to prevent that slight echo. The material is good, might as well go all out on the simple things.

"Lift the Sink" Short story and literary podcast. Really laid back and relaxing, I find it a great listen after work. Only a few episodes in but the short stories have been very good. Book reviews and general chat about reading fiction in the mix too.

Listened to the first episode of the new true crime podcast on RTE Doc on One called The Nobody Zone. Second episode of 6 out tomorrow. It's really excellent. Brilliant script and narration by Tim Hinman and a truly compelling story about a London based Irish serial killer who got away with it for a very long time.

Just a minor plug guys if you're looking for a Pop culture podcast over the next few weeks.
I put out my most recent episode in English and Irish for Paddy's Day at the same time.

    English-
    https://open.spotify.com/episode/5PIjWtMDL8Nd8ufBsBREOC
    Irish-
    https://open.spotify.com/episode/4WEQoHWzy2Res4EYFh7fe2

People on here have always been very supportive and I'm sure with the lockdown people who have always thought of starting a podcast will be doing so, would be great if people did to hav a place to plug it and maybe get some feedback from the community :)
