Recommend a Podcast

I hope you don't mind me promoting my own podcast, with backpagefootball.com - the Back Page Football podcast.

The podcast has been off and on for a number of years now, but we're having another crack at it this season. It's available on iTunes and all good podcast apps and I'm working to have it added to more.

Still early days and getting comfortable with each other and ironing out the kinks, but all subscriptions, feedback and comments would be greatly appreciated.

The website was actually founded within the realms of Boards.ie way back in the day, so support your own

Listened to a couple and the most recent one called The Five Foot Shelf was amazing. Seems to me these are podcasted highlights of documentaries being produced by the BBC. The Five Foot Shelf was asking people what book they would put on other people's essential reading list and how it influenced them etc. Very well produced and a few short music excerpts which I find always break up a long episode of listening to conversation.

Enjoying is probably the wrong word for this, but the new podcast about the surgeon Christopher Duntsch "Dr Death" from Wondery is really interesting. It isn't for the squeamish (it goes into a lot of detail about medical malpractice involving spinal surgery) but it is fascinating to see how the entire saga developed.

It's three episodes into a six episode series and I'm waiting for more to be released!

Have been listening to the podcast "Slow Burn" after a recommendation. The first season (8 episodes) breaks down the Watergate scandal and resulting impeachment. Everyone roughly knows what went down at Watergate but having not grown up in the era I never knew how bad this was. Trump ain't got nothing on Tricky Dicky.

The second season (haven't listened to it yet) is about Bill Clinton and his lewd behaviour and, of course, the resulting impeachment.

I just cancelled my Slate membership as I wasn't sure if I was getting great value from it and it's pricey after the first year. I never got around to listening to Slow Burn which I regret now as it would have been ad free and I'd have access to the bonus episodes. Has anyone who listened to both seasons any idea what the bonus content is like?

Also, Slate culture gabfest talked about the 'Uncover: Escaping NXIVM' which I've started listening to as a result. Anyone else listen to it?

Going to give this a shot, have the 1st episode of Season 2 downloaded there, you've got to love Bill

Hey lads. Any recommendations on a new pod. I like things like serial season one, S-town and up and vanished. I’ve listened to countless TERRIBLE pods since all trying to jump on the true crime bandwagon but nothing has come close.

Suggestions?

Try They Walk Amongst Us, its a similar vein to Casefile but entirely UK based

Cannot recommend Someone Knows Something highly enough. On episode 5 now and the first two episodes are heartbreaking. David Ridgen voice has me hanging on every word, he tales a wonderful story.

Also, doesnt feel like hes trying to solve them but generate talk about the case and talks to the principal characters who have come up in the case.

I would say hes a professional investigative Journalist. unlike a dude who just talks about cases

I use Podcast Addict app and there's a few bonus episodes there. They're interesting add ons to the watergate saga but are just interviews to those that would have been around at the time. I liked what I heard anyway.

This is podcast only with interviews from his live show and that.

It's pretty good.

I do get the feeling there will be no real resolution, but will still listen to the end.

I felt that was horribly one sided. The guy who made it openly admits he thinks he did it in the podcast itself. I find it hard to continue to listen to someone who is so openly partial.

On episode 8 now, and it is still massively one-sided.
I really don't think the main question is "was Lyn murdered" , but now "will it ever be proven"
I'm finding it more interesting in terms of will they find the body, prove the murder and /or get some change or charges in police depts and schools that were involved.
Even based on the inquests mentioned (I'm still hoping for a bit more explanation how that came about) it seems it has been decided that she is dead and was most likely murdered by Chris.

I found a podcast called "The Something Scary Podcast".

It's only a month old with 5 episodes, but they are very good, user-submitted ghost stories that are read and acted out by the host.
There are 4 or 5 stories per 30 minute episode, so they don't outlive their welcome.

Very professionally produced too, with background music and sound effects.

Gary Lineker and Danny Baker have a new Football podcast 'Behind Closed Doors', I enjoyed the first two episodes.

Some entertaining anecdotes and nothing too heavy, the tone is driven by Baker. If you like any of his Radio shows it's a must listen. Lineker is candid with some interesting stories from his career

Heroes for Hire - an Irish comicbook and movie based podcast that's kinda newish. They tackle all the weeks movie news along with weird news. They also do a cool segment called Hero or Zero every week talking one comicbook character and doing an in depth discussion on them. I find it really funny and their accents are just cool

I always listen to them on podbean, I find it's the best app for listening to stuff but they're on Itunes, Spotify and Castbox too i think?

Casefile (if you like true crime - different story each week with a few 2-part or 3-parters. Early ones a bit rough & ready but improves greatly in both style & narration as it goes on)

Broken Harts. It's a long form podcast about a seemingly normal couple who killed themselves and their six children by driving off a cliff. Very unsettling story because they were far from normal as it turns out.

Considering the coroner's made recommendations twice that the husband be charged with murder it's hard to see how anyone could look at the evidence and not conclude that he wasn't telling the truth.

I'm listening to this at the moment but it feels very drawn out. After listening to Crime Writers On discuss the podcast, I checked out the local paper's coverage & I found far more interesting stuff within minutes. I guess Broken Harts is getting there but why go back over so much familiar ground before then?

Almost at the end of this one. It's the story of former NFL star Aaron Hernandez who was convicted of murder. It's excellent. Highly recommend it.
