I like this video, it proves one thing, that there is no shouting and no attacking behaviour. You see - he can be nice and happy and greet fans and shake hands. That is the kind of Axl Rose I want to see all the time.

Agreed. Nice by Axl though, in fairness. There's a part of me that hopes they don't win the RNRHOF award, cos (imo) reuniting the original GNR is just gonna wipe out all the work done by NewGNR. And if origianal GNR reunite, it's only gonna be a matter of time before they throw the toys outta the pram again, and then GNR, in any of it's forms, will be dead..... :(

That makes me laugh, surprising that he was able to just get up and shake it off. He seems to be a lot happier these days then he used to be. He also seems to like touring Mexico and the fans there actually adore 80s rock bands even more then the South Americans

I remember poor Steven Adler was on the radio in Mexico once, being interviewed, and he was asking if he could use the phone to call Izzy Stradlin before he forgot, and I just remembering feeling so sorry for that poor guy cause sometimes he just gets so lost in his addictions.

Has anyone see the video with Axl in a thong and some random dude tries to have surprise butt sex with him on stage before being taken off by security? It was very wtf is happening?!

That's loose change for Axl, or anyone associated with him, it's about as pointless as the time the city of Dublin fined Slash personally for smoking indoors during a Velvet Revolver gig

And at least at this gig he continued performing to a manner of which the audience were accustomed, and they all went home completely satisfied. Oh and the promoters weren't dickheads. What? Too soon

The two and a half hour show played to rave reviews

I'd prefer a 1 hour forty show where the singer stayed on stage the whole time and didn't bugger off for 'oxygen breaks' after every second song leaving the rest of the band to play a boring solo to fill the time.

In fairness they played some more gigs in Mexico and quite a few in South America where there were no disruptions these past few weeks (including two nights in Mexico City without a problem). They've also added some Canadian dates to this latest tour!

Speaking of car crash tv LL. The appetite line up of GNR have been nominated for the 2012 RnR hall of fame. That could and probably will be a utter disaster if they get there.

And they're being inducted. Let the circus begin!:)

I'm meeting Gilby Clarke in Feb when he tours the UK, must ask if he's been invited by that point out of interest

Interestingly enough, DJ Ashba seems absolutely thrilled for Axl and wants him to go for it, but I wonder would Fortus, Bumblefoot, Stintson et all attend a ceremony from the audience and watch as Axl, Dizzy, Duff, Steven and maybe Izzy (but most likely not Slash or Matt) collect the award?

I mean Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony collected Van Halen's award so anything can happen

Kicking off already. The head of the RRHOF suggested that all of GN'R that had been invited had RSVP'd. This prompted an angry response from Slash who tweeted that he'd never RSVP'd or said he would attend.

Sounds more like the RNRHOF stirring up the hornets nest for publicity. That CEO also said that the new band members were welcome to buy tickets so they could attend the show. He sounds like a ****stirrer.

Not directly. He's said they've been working on stuff but didn't give any specifics. Said he hoped to see fruits of their labour at some stage this year but that, as always, depending on a lot of issues.

Similar mumblings have pointed towards Van Halen and Guns N' Roses as being two of the headliners at Sonisphere this year. Apparently Download wanted Van Halen instead of the Prodigy headlining but Sonisphere was able to work something out with them, and GNR are always highly sought after despite problems.

It will be interesting to see whether Eddie can keep his drinking under control long enough for the Summer to be a success. Sabbath and Metallica at Download, Van Halen and GNR at Sonisphere...who says Rock is Dead!

All we need now is Faith No More and SoundGarden to confirm UK appearances lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭rednik

The Van Halen saga changes everyday, but I too hope Eddie stays off the booze and gets back to his best and the new album is a cracker. Whether they come to Europe is still a big question. Mark Tremonti's comments on hearing the new material certainly whetted the appetite. I night just have to go to the states to see them.

DJ Ashba commented a while back about working on new material with Axl so hopefully this will work out a bit quicker than Chinese Democracy. If Axl is up for a gig this new lineup are excellent live, I know everyone wants to see the classic lineup but I don't think this will happen anytime soon. Slash is working on a new solo album as well as actively seeking a new vocalist for Velvet Revolver.

Lots of YouTube, pro shot, footage of the band's performance in Los Angeles last night. Don't expect an official DVD but do expect soundboard bootleg audio to surface and some excellent video's from YouTube. With that said, crowd is a little sombre throughout.

Axl has also given a rare interview to the LA Times in which he speaks about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April
GUNS N' ROSES lead singer Axl Rose said that the last thing he wants to do is ruin the band's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction for anyone — but that doesn't mean he's willing to perform with his former bandmates. In a rare new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Rose said about the group's upcoming induction into the Hall, "I've got mixed emotions about what the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame actually really is, but at the same time, there's a lot of people — the fans — that it just means something to them, and they're happy. It's like you won the Heisman or something."

He added that he doesn't want to see the induction turn into a scenario like what happened at the Oscars decades ago, when actor Marlon Brando sent a Native American to refuse his "Best Actor" prize for "The Godfather" and make a protest speech. Rose explained, "People don't want that associated with their awards shows, even if you have a big audience. In one way it might be right, but it usually backfires on whoever does it. So I really don't want to spoil it for everybody else — or take the beating."

As for whether there have been discussions of what will happen on the night the band is inducted, Rose said, "There is no plan yet. There really is no plan."

Personally I'd love him to send a Native American to collect his award instead and have it turn into a protest speech. That would be hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

He also mentioned some other stuff
"busy all next year" and will put out new music "as soon as we can figure out what our deal is with labels
Later in the interview, Rose made the odd statement that a reunion tour would only work if guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan were involved, hinting that original guitarist Izzy Stradlin and drummer Steven Adler need not be there. He said, "The only thing that would make it would be Duff and Slash, really. It's nothing against Izzy and it's nothing against Steven, or anything like that . . . I've toured with the other guys and I've also seen what they've done since, and I just know the difficulties."

First time I think I've ever heard Rose admit he would think about touring with Slash again, money obviously talks, and even Rose cannot uphold his "principles" above "ca-ching" for much longer;)

I'm not doubting you but I really can't see this happening so soon after the last debacle. It's still fresh in everyone's heads, the fans, the promoter's and possibly even Axl's.

We're only a "one bottle throwing idiot" away from going through it all again.

Maybe they should play behind one of those nets the gaa have behind the goals in Croke Park!

That net idea might be the solution we need;)

But yeah, I feel it's a bit sudden myself, having said that money talks and even though you remember what happened in Dublin and Reading last year the band have been fairly quiet (in comparison) during their current US dates. They've only cancelled 2 dates, that I'm aware of, and that was due to fire regulations.

Hell, even Duff McKagan has warmed to Axl enough to open for him, which must be a strange experience.

Slash has spoken about the possibility of the original line-up of Guns N' Roses reuniting for their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The band were confirmed to be added to the roll of honour along with The Faces/The Small Faces, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys and will be inducted at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 14, 2012 and Slash has said that he is not keen to revisit all the previous tensions between him and former frontman Axl Rose.

Speaking to Esquire, the guitarist said he wants to bury the hatchet with Rose and that the split between the two of them originally happened very quietly.

He said: "The split between Axl and I was a quiet one. But because there was so much attention on the break-up - and are we going to get back together - it got built up into this monster that led to a kind of animosity that wasn't the focus for me. Neither one of us wants to be down each other's throats for no reason. At this point, I'm trying to put it to rest."

He also said that he remains proud of the band's achievements and said that it remains "as sincere as any rock 'n' roll that I've ever heard".

He said: "When I see footage of Guns N' Roses, I see that ****ing hunger and attitude. You could not **** with those five guys. It was just raw. It was this lean, hungry thing on its way up. It was as sincere as any rock 'n' roll that I've ever heard, and I'm proud of that."

From what I'm being told a GNR UK Arena tour is going on sale in January 2012, and an Irish date is being considered

After the last fiasco and Axl's persistant voice problems on this tour they won't get a penny off me. As far as I am concerned they&their promoter owe me close to €100.

What mugs will pay close to €100 for an Axl & co ticket when he could walk off after 5 mins.

I didn't fall for it last time as knew what would probably happen and I sure as hell won't fall for it in the future

MCD can learn from there mistakes. If he does walk off at this show than full refunds should be given

Yeah right :pac: MCD were totally unprofessional in their handling of that last gig, much like Mr. Rose. I have zero confidence in the pair of them.

The show from last night is being passed around as a pro shot affair

And the show tonight will also be professionally taped and distributed. It's not great in terms of voice quality (Axl sounds like he's drowning amid shouting at some points from Tommy) but it is the best pro shot footage of the band I've seen in a long time in terms of how it was filmed and the amount of footage you get of the other band members as well as Axl

For some reason Chris Pittman seemed to be mysteriously absent from last night's performance....he didn't seem to be on the footage at all....

Axl is a washed-up has-been. He should(imo)let the GnR name die with dignity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,382 ✭✭✭Motley Crue

Axl is a washed-up has-been. He should(imo)let the GnR name die with dignity.

IN MY OPINION....not to be meant as any sort of attack on yourself personally, just as a general word to those who have expressed a similar opinion to your own on these Boards.ie

You're entitled to your opinion, but the fact is that I've seen washed up, I've seen washed up so badly they could hardly find the stage they were so pissed and they played off key the entire night. I've seen bands fall on their arse due to being wasted and then singing the wrong lyrics to the wrong songs.

Fact is, Axl is not washed up, and if you don't want to see him then you're perfectly within your right's to either bash him or just not attend any GNR performances...but please, enough with the "let the name die" bull**** because anyone old enough to have seen the "original" or the "classic" or the "ultimate" Guns N' Roses line up in concert will tell you, without hesitation, that that band had more problems and more addictions between 5/6/7 members then a rehab clinic

Guns N' Roses were a bunch of snot nosed bullish youth's who could barely play instruments, so a record company took them and polished them into a fine diamond of money making potential, not really giving a crap about the members (current or former) and tossed them into the snakepit. NOBODY foretold how popular this band we're going to become, outselling not only their LA mainstays like Motley Crue but also outselling bands like Metallica and even outselling Pop bands...this was unheard of.

What happened? Most of the members got so drunk they didn't realise what day it was, snorted so much cocaine they were running out of money on the highest grossing tour in US history at it's peak, and performed a set of acceptable and bullish Punk/Rock/Metal songs that managed to make them millionaires. On top of that their lead vocalist was allowed to get away with absurd behaviour and this was tolerated because nobody could restrain him or tell him what to do - yet, despite not performing in cities named 'M' after his physic told him he would be shot there, despite leaving a gig after 10 minutes due to faulty sound which resulted in riots (and the fans could have chosen to be pissed and leave, like in Dublin, or they could choose to beat the police and overturn vehicles and smash the glass of the arena like in St Louis) he was still forced to go on tour once with a broken foot, because, the label told him he had too.

It's funny how people look back at GNR with rose tinted glasses and say "hey, this band was the pinnacle of rock and roll excess, the most dangerous band (and the coolest and most talented) in the world" but the fact is, it's well documented, that the old GNR were just nostalgia defined. That's why Duff McKagan just supported GNR in America, because he can't remember those audiences the first several times around, and he wasn't sober and old enough to appreciate it.
