In 13th place - Pat Benatar - Hit me with your best shot - submitted by
    CJ Maxx

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: Yes

Thoughts: This is instantly recognisable for me. Vocals are very good, but outside of one guitar solo the music just comes across as lacking that something special, gets a little repetitive after a while.

In 12th place we have Kim Carnes – Bette Davis Eyes, submitted by
    Y0ssae1an22

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: Yes

Thoughts: Like the Pat Benatar one, this is another instantly recognisable song. Very 80’s , love the synth melody that goes throughout the song. I also really like the husky sound of the vocals

In 11th place we have Marlena Shaw - Let's Wade in the Water - submitted by
    Osh

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Nice intro. Very Motown feel off of this one. Really like the piano track played throughout and the Brass accompaniment

In 10th place we have Daughter – Youth - submitted by
    Eletric Nitwit

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Vocals sound very familiar to me, but I don’t remember hearing this band before. Big fan of the music but I’m not 100% set on the vocals.

In 9th place we have Within Temptation - Covered By Roses - submitted by
    Mustang Shelly

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Great range on the vocals and really like the chorus. In my ignorance, this is what I thought Nightwish sounded like! Not big on the sampled bit at the end, there are some tracks that get this spot on but it just seems a bit pointless on this one.

In 8th place Pink - I am Here - submitted by
    Gru

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: I always enjoy Pink songs when I hear them, she’s got a great voice and knows how to write a catchy tune. Not a fan of the second part of the chorus, feel like it doesn’t really fit the song. Backing vocals/choir are class

In 7th place YONAKA - Teach Me To Fight - submitted by
    Also Starring LaVar Burton

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Nice energetic intro, followed by vocals that are full of attitude. Liking the chorus as well. I think some artist really over think songs, sometimes its refreshing to see a band have a nice short and to the point song

In 6th place - Siouxsie and the Banshees - Cities in Dust- submitted by
    Irish Aris

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: Yes

Thoughts: As I said in the last round I was a big fan of new wave/post punk sound and Siouxsie and Banshees were right up the top of the list. Great voice, love when the drums come in. Like the breakdown as well.

In 5th place - Beach House - 10 mile stereo - submitted by
    Homer J Fong

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Like the synth pop sound, vocals sound very familiar to First Aid Kit imo. Like that they’ve really pulled the vocals front and centre. The dynamics of the song are very interesting, they seem to have made the loud bits quiet and the soft bits a loud (that probably makes 0 sense, but I know what I’m trying to say). I would have liked the Antlers song you submitted in an earlier round to build the sound up in a similar way to how it was done here

    Nice pick Homer

In 4th place - Fiona Apple – Under the Table - submitted by
    S1ippy

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Never realised Fiona Apple had a new album out. Love the style of singing in this one, there’s an excellent choice of instruments in the piece, played by some very talented musicians. Love the sound from around 2:25 to 2:50. Have since listen to the new album and its very impressive

So that leaves the podium places and the bottom 3. Players with their name yet to be called are Barney92, JP Liz V1, Lassykk, Rothko, ShaneU and The Purple Tin

In 16th place Julie Jacklin - Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You - submitted by
    Rothko

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Enjoyed the vocals, but it got a little boring after a while. I think it got pushed a little further down the list because there wasn’t a whole lot going on and they could off have shaved a minute or 2 of the song.

In 17th place - Lisa Leob – Stay -submitted by
    Lassykk

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: Yes

Thoughts: Heard this in Lassykk’s surlaw for the first time, it didn’t get into my top 10 in that completion and its well outside the top 10 in this one as well. Very 90’s sounding. I wouldn’t turn it off if it came on the radio, but I wouldn’t be making it a priority to listen to any of her other music either.

    Ah well, not too bad

It was reasonably big when it was out so you might have heard it before but obviously it didn't register :p

Their debut album is beautiful, although if you didn't like this you probably won't love the rest either

In 3rd place - Bonnie Raitt - Angel From Montgomery - submitted by
    The Purple Tin

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: Yes

Thoughts: Anything written by John Prine is going to score high in my books. Big fan of this Americana/bluegrass sound. Not usually a fan of talking but I feel it works really well on this track. Big fan of her voice. Great version of a great song

In 2nd place - Andra Day - Rise Up - submitted by
    Barney92

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: This lady has some voice, sounds like a mix of Amy Winehouse, Adele and Ella Fitzgerald! I like how the simple accompaniment really lets the vocals shine. This is another track where the backing vocals really add to the overall enjoyment of the song. Powerful song, really enjoyed it.

In 18th place - Kelsea Ballerini – Peter Pan, submitted by
    JP Liz V1

Have I heard the band: No

Have I heard the song: No

Thoughts: Talking at the start sounds pure cheesy. Wouldn’t be a massive fan of this style of country. She has decent vocals but I just wouldn’t be a massive fan and unfortunately in a strong round this means it ends up on the bottom of the pile.

Which means 1st place goes to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps - submitted by
    ShaneU

Have I heard the band: Yes

Have I heard the song: Yes

Thoughts: I am a huge fan of Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. You wouldn’t believe how many hours I put in as a teenager trying to do the guitar bit for 3 and half minutes without fecking up! Mentions this already in an earlier round, but tom drums can be so effective when used properly. Ah when that “Wait” kicks in it just brings me straight back to being a teenager. Great song executed to perfection!

Sorry about the rushed reveal for this round. Have a load going on this week and wanted to get it done when I had a chance rather than leaving it another week
