Good to see Elliot Dixon back staring, but i think that team is a little too green and rusty to pull out a win against a rebels side who were mightily impressive away in their first game.

Hard to say with the rebels yet to be fair they where gifted one of there tries in particular against the brumbies and I don't think it was the same brumbies side from last week plus quade played out of his skin.

Coleman and hodge back should be huge though hopefully it will be a good game if the compete like the reds did i would be happy with that

Hurricanes getting a bp win against the Brumbies this morning, Laumape has been quite brilliant today

didnt see this being picked up last week, but the tahs Tolu Latu was cited and subsequently suspended for 6 weeks for dangerous play on Ed Quirke of the sunwolves

    https://www.rugby.com.au/news/2019/02/24/super-rugby-latu-citing

Its hard enough to make out, but he appears to have grabbed Quirkes leg as a maul dropped and twisted in in an unnatural way causing injury.

He was cited under law 9.20 dangerous play in a ruck or maul
But, in a media release, the SANZAAR judiciary said they'd regarded Latu’s offence at the top end (10-plus weeks) "due to the vulnerability of the victim, the gravity of the offence and the extent of the injury caused to the victim.”

Latu’s ban was subsequently reduced to six weeks and though they had a right of appeal, the Waratahs accepted the ban.

Dane Coles was an absolute monster as well, his dive in for the second try was just rubbing salt in the wound.

The Brumbies result against the Chiefs makes sense now. Chiefs look poor. Lots of knock ons from both teams.

Former Munster man V der Heever on the wing for the Sunwolves.

    Excellent result 15 - 30

Sunwolves completely deserved that, chiefs a rabble.... Nothing up front when retallick and cane are out.

Nani seturo is electric going forward, but very questionable in defense. He was caught badly for VDHs last try.

Great result for the competition. Sunwolves first ever away win.

Good to see Michael Little getting his game with Sunwolves. I thought he was a cracking player for North Harbour over the last few years. And his dad was one of my favourite ever players.

    Good weekend for away teams.
Bulls beat Lions 30-12 in Ellis Park
Stormers just beat Sharks 16-11 in Kings Park.

Seen the Bulls game, impressive showing again. They were poor in Argentina but very good in their first game.
Very surprised to see the Stormers winning, they look like a poor side to me.

Bit of a get out of jail for Hurricanes this morning. Had all the possession and territory at the start but couldn't convert. So many knock ons and penalties on both sides. Savea was huge in the last couple of mins with some vital turnovers / penalties won. Penalty in front of posts to claim the win.

    🤪

still a little sick over that result..... but our discipline really let us down... the last pen was mind numbingly stupid

canes were there for the taking .... they were actually quite poor, and the barrets played like it was the first time theyve ever held a ball.

some come back by the rebels !!!!

    3 - 19 down after 40 mins

    win 29 - 26

Serious comeback. If they're in form the rebels have two of the best half backs in the world.

That second half performance from Genia was top drawer. From the moment they messed up the lineout at the end of the first half, he was fired up.

Conceding a try at the start of the 2nd half against 13 men was a killer though. Complete momentum shift from there. Pockock going off probably cost them the game, was doing trojan work at the breakdown

Brumbies were unlucky. Thought the ref could've gone to his pocket a couple more times. They had 3/4 consecutive penalties on the line in the first half before that Speight try.

Super Rugby: Highlanders v Crusaders match cancelled after Christchurch shootings

New Zealand Rugby says it was "an easy decision" in the end to call off the Highlanders v Crusaders match on Saturday as a way to showing respect to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attacks.

Both sides will share two competition points and the game will not be rescheduled, Sanzaar has confirmed.

NZ Rugby announced the decision shortly after 2pm on Saturday after NZ Rugby's chief rugby officer Nigel Cass said detailed discussions with both teams indicated an overwhelming desire to "send a message that they abhor" the violent attacks that took place at two Christchurch mosques on Friday.

Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge said the 'horrific attacks have left us all feeling stunned'.

While NZ Rugby wanted to resist a knee jerk cancellation and there were discussions as how to best show their respect to the victims, Cass said the decision to call off the game was the right thing to do.

"After consulting widely with both teams and key stakeholders, New Zealand Rugby has decided to cancel this evening's match," Cass said.

"Advice from police and venue management was that the fixture could go ahead, however, with strong agreement from both teams we have made the final call not to proceed as a mark of respect for the events that have occurred in Christchurch

Unfortunate from a purely selfish perspective but the right call.

I see there is talk in NZ of the Crusaders changing their team name after the events in Christchurch. They might have to change the name of the city as well!

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,512 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

There is no need for any drastic action like that. I'm talking about name changing here.
It was the right call to cancel the match for sure. Maybe the Crusaders players can all wear a black armband for the rest of the season as a mark of respect. Personally I think all the New Zealand teams should do that although the all-blacks might have to come up with something a bit different for the World Cup.

Couple of classic quade cooper moments helped this one along though, two silly mistakes for the lions last two tries.
