Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Within the law. So, no blocking anywhere without prior agreement, no verbal abuse (chanting is grand), no throwing stuff, no blocking people in their cars, etc.

    Second time asking...

    Linky to any video footage?

There doesn't apper to be any video in the FB link. There is a photographer. I clicked into his page. Let's see.....

    Books: Fifty Shades of Tae.
Likes: 99 words for boobs, the ballymurphy massacre.
    Sports: mostly Celtic shyte.
Activities: golf, INLA (an odd combination...?)
Interests: golf, irish rebel music (see above)

Photographer seems to be a computer generated stereotype. Bet he has a beer belly.

From what I've seen simply shouting "peaceful protest" validates whatever you are at.

There is an article in this weeks Waterford news and star about this on page which I read in the local library, in the article it said the protester in question when Joan Burtons car was leaving the Granville hotel, a man lunged forward according to the garda , now if he lunged forward or not- I don,t know as I wasn,t there; but to play devils advocate if you are employed as private security or as a garda assigned to protect a public figure and someone lunges forward at the person you are assigned to protect, in all realistically you are gonna have to tackle that person to the ground as quick as possible as you do not know what the persons intent might be or if they are carrying a weapon on them, OP who started this thread, what is your own version of events ? did the protester in question lunge forward at the car ? and Im no fan of Joan Burton or supporter of the Labour party.

Nope its owned by big bad denis through a holding company just like siteservr and most media outlets so basically denis owns the state and all the little busy minions therein

I wonder did the Joan burton cavalcade pull up at a topaz at any stage ? Isn't Irish water a subsidiary of topaz? Free fuel and sandwiches etc. 😄

See, this is what I like about people who go to lengths to oppose things. It's how well researched and thought out their views are.

Which holding company owns Irish Water?

I'll save you the bother , its a subsidiary of Ervia (used to be Bord Gais Networks. It has the same set up as An Post , Bus Eireann, Bord na Mona , Coiltte, ESB, and Irish Rail etc.

Denis O 'Drien owns one of the companies sub contracted to fit meters. But sure hey, that must mean he owns the company that employs his company. (so does this then give him ownership of other meter installers? Or do they own his? It's all very confusing)

Heres a list from GMC Sierra's website of who they do work for here, that must mean they own all of these companies/departments/grpups, yeah?

    Bord Gáis
    Central Bank
    Dublin Airport Authority
    Dublin Port Company
    eircom
    Airtricity
    ESB
    ESBI
    Northern Ireland Electricity
    UPC
    Office of Public Works
    Railway Procurement Authority
    Water Service NI
    Waterways Ireland

Burton was in the car cop pulled a peaceful protestor from the crowd and both of them fell to the street followed by the ballybricken ruck
eventually the protestor was escorted to.the wagon as burton drove off while chewing on her after 8s and ibs capsules...

How about giving up the burger & chips for 2 hours like the hunger striker Je suis Derek did, would that be OK?

How exactly did they end up on the ground though Hoffmans?? One of them have some kind of problem with their balance?

I wonder how the same situation would pan out if it was the UK equivalent ie deputy prime minister (nick clegg?).....who was visiting a UK regional capital or say vice president of USA Joe bided......How would a group of 'peaceful protesters' be treated ? How close would they get to either of them. If somebody lunged towards person/car I think it might be a slightly different reaction from the security people?

Jesus if only the Tourist board was as good at attracting visitors to the city as this thread ,:pac:

Any way seen the video and the protester and the Garda seem to stumble over each other and end up on the ground, No Cage fighting skills on display, If I was to use one word to describe it Awkward, Comes to mind.
Now in the interest of fairness ,When they go down the protester lands slightly on top ,The other Gardai who get involved seem to turn to see a fellow officer in trouble and jump in to help control the situation (which one would expect them to do)
There was no over use of violence or anything like that and the protestor didn't fight back.

    ^^^

So, two awkward people v gravity, rather than 'evil bullyboy guard v peaceful harmless protestor'?

That's the thing about some of the protesters you just can't believe anything they say as it's twisted to suit their agenda.

Bumping this one as I think the 'peaceful protesters' are back in action, in the Ballygunner area over the last few days, I know someone out there who got their 'nice new water meter' installed yesterday.............the 'protesters' were knocking on doors in advance of the works asking people to join them and resist the installation

It's getting ridiculous. I live in a very anti area. I'm sick of the bellends posting notifications of their silly little meetings through my door.

I'd be half tempted to bring the lads out tea and a plate of hobnobs when they arrive to do their days work....

Don't worry, protesters are dwindling. I have to laugh at the part timers who protest at Topaz, biggest bunch of knobs. Always make it may business to driver in and give Topaz business when they are out!

Yeah, protests are dwindling, not to worry eh Jamie2k9, lets just shut our little mouths and hand over yet more money to the government to prop up the bondholders like good little boys and girls. I mean, Irish Water only has out best interests at heart right? That delightful little company are only trying to fix the pipes for us and not to screw us over, no not at all. I mean, how shocking of people to question a charge government demands of us. Some people eh?

Not a huge fan of the water protestors antics but you can't argue that the things they are shouting about are true, no matter how crazy they come across..

Its a difficult situation, don't shout too loud and no one will listen, shout too loud and people will think your crazy.

When will I get to stop hearing about water charges :(

I'm positively getting sick of it and I highly doubt these 'peaceful protesters' were any way peaceful. I have seen so many videos of these 'peaceful protesters' acting the scumbag and then shouting peaceful protest when they get a reaction.

heres a mad idea, maybe its a good idea to pay for water per usage, but i guess we would need meters for that

    na scarp that, bad idea

sorry lost my mind there for a minute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Why not let them install the meters, and then either remove them yourself or just don't pay the bill? Instead of terrifying the older people in estates who are too scared to tell the people protesting outside their house that they want the meters in. Yes, this happens. People are being bullied into the anti Irish Water brigade.

If the protestors are so intent on not paying, well then let the meters be installed and refuse to pay. Not everyone is against it.

Also depending on the detail in the contract between Irish Water and the Meter Installing crews (Denis O'Brien), obstructing and delaying the installation will most likely result in Denis O'Brien 'creaming' more money from Irish Water by way of delay/disruption claims.........oh but I forgot Denis O'Brien actually owns Irish Water.........?

    Bumping this one............

More arrests yesterday, they (peaceful protesters) have moved to Bishopsfield on Williamstown road, I passed by there yesterday and there seemed to be a lot of gardai at the entrance to the estate, it also looks like things turned even nastier for the Irish Water contractors with some of their machinery being burned out somewhere near the Lacken Rd according to WLR news These metering contractors are in for a hard time it seems and they have only started. As I said above, I'm not aware of the details in the contract they have with Irish Water but delays to disruption by cause 'protesters' will probably end up resulting in cost over-runs and contractor being compensated for works that couldn't be completed and could result in making guys like Denis O'Brien even wealthier for doing nothing, should the peaceful protesters not concentrate on 'mass non-payment' of bills as opposed to actual meter installation???
