Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Delivered to the doorstep. But I'm off with the kids and wife is working from home, can't be seen to be cheating at parenting *too* early in the day :)

In other news, the staff are very unhappy.
The government suggests they should be closed, but this mornings email from head office keeps them open...
I reassured the staff they really shouldn't be open any more.

I called my Island Bikini Btm

    Mine is Skellig :)

Just paid off the first loan with Nook Miles and now just roaming, gathering things to sell and weeding the bits of the island I can access :)

Just realised you can show bugs and fish to Tom Nook to encourage a new development on the island.

Am I mad to be considering buying this while I'm neck deep in the Witcher and have a new baby in the house? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,191 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

It's very engaging so far the tasks are quick but there is a lot to do and figure out it's definitely gonna be a game you won't want to put down until you've done what needs to be done it's great so far after near 3 hours of play I'm not bored yet

It can be a waiting game as well. I've reached the point on day 1 where not much new can happen so I'll probably leave it until tomorrow. It's done in real time so day time here is the same as day time in the game, night time, morning etc. I might dip in tonight to see what nighttime in the game is like.

I've an 8 month old at home and it'll probably be short bursts during their naps and some play during lunchtime at work for the foreseeable future.

That's pretty much the same here, except I'm the one who takes naps and the gaming happens in-between them.

Don't go island hopping without emptying your pockets first

From posts on Reddit it looks like 2 players on one switch approach is limiting for the 2nd player as the first player gets to unlock stuff and the 2nd player is left clueless ... at least in the first few hours.

So, looks like the kids, in my house anyway, will have to play together for a bit to figure out and plan the initial lay of the land.

Really wish they let each player have their own island if they want. But really they want you to buy more switches. And if you go digital, more copies of the game. Not nice Nintendo!

I'll need to wait until I have some kind of container built so as I've made some of the better tools and they did not come easy.

The Tarantula’s come out at night, not many they are there. They move fast and the first one I saw caught me by surprise, scared the sh**e out of me. If you can catch them though Timmy will give you 8000 bells for one

So what's the comsensus on this? I enjoyed the 3ds version but got bored after a couple of weeks, the only decent way to make bells was going to the island with all the beetles on it so I'd end up doing that every time.

P.s I already game share with my missus so I cant put my primary account on my daughers switch.

Just to answer my own question, yes you can.

Haven't had much time to play cause I'm hiding it from the kids, but paid off.my tent and one of my neighbours gave me a recipe for umbrellas that doubled the value of weeds so I'm stinking rich. But damn these tools! And all the bloody wasps.
Took me ages to cop to hitting the rocks with the axe to get stone and iron. Must stop fast forwarding through the Nook dialogue!
Just need to earn some miles for the stronger tools now. Loving it so far.

    I'd be all for that. I'm realising now that the Friend Code I have in the main thread is now my US account (long, stupid story) so I have a new one for my main account;

    SW-5777-1710-3993

I'll drop it into the main thread now.

Different island different fruit. I've pears, my daughter has oranges and the missus has something else.

em just keep catching things and bringing them to Tom and craft as much as you can today.

If you can get 5000 nook miles tonight and pay your debt you can have your house for tomorrow once you take on the loan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Don't forget to talk to him after he tells you about the loan to actually take it on!

    And hit the rocks with the flimsy axe :}

I'm convinced that they do. I smashed one by accident on the first day and I think it came back this morning. At least, I didn't count how many were on my island at first so I can't be sure.

If you're stuck for what rocks provide, you can pay 2000 Nook Miles to travel to a randomly generated island that will have rocks. Be sure to dig a hole behind you when farming from the rocks so you don't get pushed back and can get the full 8 items from each rock.

    Already posted in bargain alerts

Anyone on the fence great bargain in Argos

€235 for a switch lite and Animal Crossing when bought together.

I've gotten two gold nuggets so far from my rock baiting

Be careful buying turnips maybe look up the guide if you're thinking it'll payoff.

You can sell assessed fossils for a lot and if you chop trees down rare bugs may land on the stump

Can people have seperate save games on the same switch? Don't want the kids wrecking my island.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,191 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

No they're additional residents on your island not separate players with their own island

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

...which was the case in New Leaf too. It's not so bad. The box suggests you can have up to four people play at once on one switch which would be nice but haven't checke dthat out

Just got.my decent tools - do they eventually break too or are they forever?
Is there an upgraded crafting table that lets you do multiples so you don't have to sit through the animation 14 times for the sake of a few thousand bells?

1 item away from Blathers upgrading his tent. **** you, horse mackerel!

They do break, even the shovel Blathers gives you breaks. Looking online, people are guessing that there might be much stronger tools further down the line but nobody has gotten that far yet. The fact that the 'broken tools' Nook Milestone is high enough suggests that it could be a ways off.

I find I'm earning enough bells from fishing etc that I can buy some flimsy tools and save my resources for furniture and other things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,191 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

I think the tools break even the good ones it definitely looks botw rules might consider picking up a second copy for a dud island where it's always Sunday crash the stalk market that way.

How can 2 kids share a single switch Island without a mini war happening ?
Lock down at home and lock down on Animal Crossing !
Game due to arrive tomorrow !

Thinking of creating a new Switch profile and in AC this profile is the mayor/island rep.
Either kid can play this profile to advance the story, build bridges or whatever this main player can do or is needed to do.

Then they play their own profiles whenever they want.

Bloody hell Nintendo! Why not give players the option of having their own Island ? Are you for real ?

Basically you follow the instructions of an evil racoon who has inducted you into a cult of personality slavery ring, and wait for the resistance to contact you. Then you turn your shovels and watering cans to swords and storm his fortress!

In the meantime while you wait, catch some fish and some insects and craft furniture to appease your cruel overlord. Never let him suspect. Never let them see.
