Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Before I received my Charge Card I used to just ring the Number on display on the chargers and they'd turn the charge on for me. They nearly always asked for my Reg Number, some asked for my name and some didn't. I think I had applied for a card at that stage, but I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I never had any issues at all just ringing them and asking them to turn on/turn off the charge.

If you don't want to ring them there's an app called ZE Pass which will let you activate the chargers with your phone. You need to add a credit card but it won't charge you. It's meant to be for Renault customers but anyone can use it.

Plugsurfing app might work too but I've not actually tried it.

I'm currently looking at a used Nissan Leaf that's for sale 150km from where I live. As this would be my first EV, how would I go about charging the car when bringing it back home? I have to give evidence of ownership when registering for charge point access - but I won't have that before I buy it. Has anyone had this problem that could give advice?

When I sold my Leaf, I gave the new owner one of my eCar cards so he could get home, and then he posted it back to me.

You can also ring the 24/7 number - 01-2583799 and they will start/stop the charge.

You can also request the cards before buying the car, I done this.

I had my night rate meter installed, my eCars card in my pocket and my EV charger installed (all three free of charge) way before I actually got my car :D

I had the same except the charger took longer for me

How long does it take to charge the leaf 24kwh?

    Depends.

    How low is the battery?
What charge point do you have?
Does the Leaf have the 3.3 or 6.6 charger option.

It could be anything from 2-3hrs to 12hrs.

Or just 20-30 minutes for a decent top up on a fast charger :)

Don’t have a leaf as I am checking them out if it was a 6.6 with a low battery in a standard street charger?

If you could find one, last time I checked there were 800 public chargers in the country and only 80 fast chargers.

lets say 15% to 100% as you're not going to be arriving with 0%!

Charging at 6.6kW would take that charge session about 3hrs.

    It's basic maths.

6.6 kW charger will put approx. 6 kW/h into the battery per hour, given roughly 10% for losses.
So from completely empty to completely full on a 24 kWh battery, you're looking at around 4 hours.

Obviously double that if you've the standard 3.3 kW charger.

And add extra for the 30 kWh battery.

It was very hard to find a tyre with A rating for both fuel efficiency and grip in the wet, so was happy to find these. Only had them a few weeks, but find the grip very good and they are nice and quiet. I just bought the leaf and the previous owner had 3 different Chinese brands between the 4 tyres. Could only improve.

What energy efficiency gain can I expect with L24? Currently have four odd tyres and they are C rating at best (probably worse, I don't know the rating).

Unless they are complete dirt, I'd say 5% at most.

    About 3.5%.

Sorry I just spent 20 minutes with a whole essay here, but lost the whole message as there was a URL included which apparently I'm not allowed to do. Wouldn't let me go back to edit the message.

Check out http s://bit .ly/2VP7Wpe (delete the spaces) for the EU website about tyre labels which also includes a calculator to calculate savings for different tyre ratings.
If you consider changing tyres to improve range also make sure you regularly check tyre pressures, could make a bigger difference than changing tyres.

Difference between G and A is 9% by the way.

Cheers for that, but I suppose the calculator is for ICE? Do you think it can be transposed to BEV as is? Not sure, I'm not an engineer, but the engines/drive trains are different and also it depends on the weight of the car for sure.

It mainly needs to know the fuel for the purpose of cost calculation. As it will give you the original mpg figure and a new one you can deduce what the percentage change is, as the tyre is the only variable in that calculation the others cancel out.

It's also wise to look at the big picture, if the change is 2%, 2.5748% or 3%, it's all the same really. I don't think you would notice the difference between those 3 values in real life.
Hence I mentioned the need to keep tyre pressures correct, that is likely to be a bigger factor. But if you are due a tyre change anyway, you might as well go for an A/A tyre, as they are not too expensive.

Question: I have a L24 '13 and in the 'My Leaf' app nor the Nissan EV app do I get any daily/monthly statistics, is that only for the newer models? I can only use the charging and climate control features.

I have a 151 L24 and I went into the Nissan EV App and clicked on the 'Bar Chart' Icon at the bottom of the screen. It was blank by default, but if I clicked on a section (I tried 'Yearly Data'), it then updated and gave me statistics for 2019, so that at least is working for me.

Right. This was my thinking as well, use A rating because I need to change them anyway.

Thanks, went back into the app (still wasn't working) and below the Yearly stats found a link to a Nissan website that mentioned you need to tick the 'Share Vehicle Information' option in the car. I'll check that in the next time I'm in the car.

A bit off topic but this is the first time I've seen an EV take centre(-ish) stage in a hollywood film:

I'm not sure but it seems like they have added in normal car noises there, I bet they manage to go the whole film without a charge too :pac:

Thought this might be worth posting here aswell
While changing from my winter wheels back to the summers i thought id have a look at the brakes as i have been getting a bit of a noise from the front offside wheel like a loose pad and the slight knock that seams common to the leaf. The back of the pads, clips and slider's on both sides were as dry as the Sahara, bit of copper grease and some Red silicone lube and now there's no noise. The sliders were very stiff. Should hopefully be good for another 50K

Did you buy another set of Leaf alloys or a set from another Nissan model? Also do you just ignore the TPMS over the winter?

Anyone got a recommendation for somewhere to pick up a suitable spare wheel in the Kildare/Dublin area?

    Hi

I have a 24L ... great car and we use it 90% of the time
We were thinking of changing our main family Car (2 Lt Diesel) with the 60Kw leaf.
Just came off the phone with one of the Nissan dealers. The price they gave me for a trade in was about 20% less then another dealer came up with (Kia)

That's fair enough but the reason for the post was that they said the new leaf should be around next month some time. The cost he reported was 40,000 after grants

Sounds very expensive to me - -what are your thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,925 ✭✭✭Soarer

Hyundai are charging something similar for a similar range Kona, and I assume Kia will be the same with the Niro EV, so that seems to be the going rate for ~400km range.

I ordered a set of steel wheels with TPMS and tires all fitted from eiretyres.com and changed one at a time with a short drive in between so the car picks up the new sensor and it's position

Noticed today that I’ve lost another bar. Down to 8 now.
    183,400km on the clock.
    LeafSpy says I’m at 66.03%.
50% charge says 7.2kWh, so I’m assuming approx. 14.5kWh maximum capacity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭jasonb

In general, at approx. what mileage would you expect to lose the first bar? I bought a second hand 151 L24 last year, there's approx. 88k on the clock, and I'm wondering when it will go from 12 to 11 bars. I think part of me will feel a bit disappointed when it does, like it's not 'new' to me anymore...

I wouldn't worry about it Jason. It could happen tomorrow, it could happen next year. You bought in 2018, which means your car is probably worth more today than what you paid for it. Combined with the almost zero running costs that means you have enjoyed pretty much a free car

Thing is capacity trickles down anyway. When new the GOM will show ~164km on a full charge, but that drops by 1km maybe every 6 weeks. So you'll know when it's showing ~140km on a full charge that it's about to lose a bar.

As unkel says, the running costs and resale value make up for it.

It’s not the mileage that effects it. It’s the battery chemistry and charging and use.
My 141 L24 lost its first bar at 77k km. I bought it in feb 2017 with about 88% SOH and 2 years later it dropped to the 85% SOH that loses the first bar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭jasonb

Thanks for your replies. Sounds like it will drop soon enough. But don't get me wrong, I'm delighted with the car, it really suits my needs and the running costs are great. And not forgetting it's a nice car to drive, comfortable and has all the gadgets I need. I can't see myself ever going back to an ICE...

I looked at and test drove an l40 a couple of weeks ago, the dealer said the price is going up in a couple of weeks. Current stock will be sold at current price, but after that it will be 1200 more expensive

Jokers and still over-confident about Chademo. They will be gone soon.

How much condensation are you talking about? Have you taken the lamp off and left the covers off to let the sun try and dry it out?

Have an issue with the Leaf24 and not sure where to go with it.

Recently I had a vibration after driving about 3 km (going slightly downhill) where the vibration was so bad I thought I had a flat tire. All 4 tires where fine though. Got the car towed on a flatbed and checked by local garage but they could not find anything wrong at all. I was very puzzled by it, but indeed the car drives like a dream again. Afterwards I suspected it might have something to do with the handbrake by reading a bit about leaf weak spots in general. It was set on the flatbed and thus released when it came off the flatbed. Normally don't use the handbrake much, but when I do and reverse out of the driveway it sometimes is sticky for the first 20 meters or so and then seems to release okay.

Now this week I had the exact same problem at exactly the same location. So what I did this time was stop the car, set the handbrake, release the handbrake and set off again. Fault was completely gone. It is not the road surface as I pass that location pretty much every day. If it happens again I will stop the car again with the normal brakes, and then set off again without using the handbrake. If the fault is still there I am convinced it is the handbrake. If the fault would disappear it could be something else.
But not sure how this slight downhill factors into the cause, unless it's a coincidence.

(htt p s://w ww.speakev.com/threads/intermittent-judder-and-knocking.134338/#post-2518790 this post is very much like the fault I have, minus the loud knocking.)

However in the meantime I would prefer to get the handbrake checked. I prefer not to go to a dealer and was wondering if there is a garage somewhere around Dublin that specialises in EV's and would be very familiar with a Leaf?

Other input also very welcome, heard the repair can be very costly.

Can you remove the rear light for a day or 2 and keep it indoors and then go straight to the test. Condensation should clear straight up enough to pass nct.

*assuming the condensation is not so bad that the lights are unusable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,083 ✭✭✭Firblog

The light only failed because of the condensation, cannot remove and leave for a couple of days, and wouldn't be comfortable removing it anyways.

Any chance someone can confirm that light is the correct one for 152 24 Leaf SVE? need to get one soon, or will have to pay for retest..
