James Barry has announced his retirement from inter county hurling with Tipperary.
I know his form had regressed in the last year or two, but between 2014-2016 he did a great job filling the full back void for Tipp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭digzy

Think the Munster final did him some damage. Must’ve been a blow when Laois decided to leave him as the ‘free man’ in the qf.

You’d think he’s a few years left, only 29. Maybe figures he’s not a starter anymore

Huge commitment you have to give to be not even guaranteed a place, not at all shocked by this. Fine career (5 all ire medals in all, i think) and damn good player. One or two tough days (not always his fault, it must be said), but more good ones than bad. Helped fill a gap after Paul Curran retired, excellent in 2016 and again in 2017 s/f when all manner of doom was predicted on him. Wish him all the very best.

Yeah it certainly was, some of the scores put over wouldn't look out of place of the Sunday game on all Ireland final day no joking. I think loughmore will be dissapointed after realling in a 6 point deficit and at stages leading by a score but commercials having multiple players able to score form various areas on the pitch was the difference.

Think commercials have a shot at the munster again but by god their discipline is shocking, the amount of frees they gave away yesterday was shockingly bad and in fairness treacy for loughmore punished the majority of them kicking them over.

JkB no doubt underdogs in the final but I would have said that yesterday against Moyle rovers and they led them the entire game.

5 AI medals for Tipp and 2 Harty Cups and a Croke cup with Thurles CBS and a Fitzgibbon Cup with UCC. A stellar career indeed, when he replaced Paidi Maher against Galway in 2014 it was a massive turning point for Tipp, always a man for the big ocassion and excelled in Croke Park.

7 All-stars for Tipp, Hogan, Barrett, the 3 Mahers, McGrath and Callinan.

Special nod to the Iron Man Padraic Maher on picking up his sixth all star and joinging Nicky English and Eoin Kelly as Tipp's top all star winners, fitting company for an incredible servant to the Tipp jersey and he is still only 30!

While thats true about any player, I think the loss of Quinlavin is monumental when it comes to Tipp football.

We now have for various reasons lost 3 of our best players in Acheson, O Riordan and now Quinlavin.

Poor enough game but well done to Borrisoleigh. Kiladangan never really got going but missed a penalty which could have made the difference. Fantastic performance from JD Devaney and when the chips were down Brendan Maher and Dan Mccormick really stood up.

Holycross left heartbroken after a goal from the brackens with the last puck of the ball {a free from 30 metres) meant a one point defeat.

Well done to Borris-Ileigh who were crowned SH Champions bridging a 33year gap. Hard luck to Kiladangan who also lost out in the IHCF to Sean Treacys yesterday.
Borris-Ileigh will play Glen Rovers (Cork) in the 2019 AIB Munster Club Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final on Sunday November 10th at 1:30pm in Semple Stadium.

What age is JD Devaney? Would he be up to inter county standard?

He's still a minor, U18 in Tipp. Very tidy player and has great pace. A few more inches of height and he'll be a massive prospect.

Yeah he's still in school playing Harty Cup. He's small and light but extremely quick. Reminds me a bit of a young Eddie Brennan.

Could be brought in next year maybe for look but most likely a couple years off.

Not sure how any one could call it a bad game. Tough close game played in November plenty of fine hurlers on show. Some people never happy.

In 2018, I think Borris won the County Minor B also this year.

Two great sporting teams ! Not a bad foul or a dirty stroke through out the whole game. I was really impressed how sporting the game was.

Just watched on tg4, good stuff for winter hurling. Borris just had upper hand physically i thought, kiladangan tried to play all the hurling but was a tough enough day for it.

Its funny the likes of larkin and tyrell saying tipp lose tight games to kilkenny when actually any time tipp get on top in games kilkenny actually crumble and die without a fight, all 3 final losses in last decade of 8 points or more is embarrassing. Its been a great winter so far even had a wedding in kilkenny ha.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,871 ✭✭✭✭klose

Dominant stuff from commercials today against brakens to put it lightly, the range of scores they have from all about the pitch is very impressive. Can they win Munster again?

I know there's been a few attempts by Tipp posters to rewrite history since the final, such as claims that Tipperary have been dominate over Kilkenny in recent history, so I'm not sure if that's what's happening here but to state that Kilkenny crumbled and died without a fight in 2010 is absolute bull****. Despite being hit with blow after blow at crucial times, Kilkenny came back into the game at least twice.

True. Where in 2009 everything went wrong for Tipp, missed goals, sending off, bad penalty award, in 2010 everything went right for Tipp - Shefflin going off, goals at the right time etc. Kilkenny didn't crumble that day, it was an awesome Tipperary display, but KK fought to the bitter end. I remember thinking near the end - "Will you f**kers ever die", each goal was a hammer blow and yet they kept coming, It wasn't until Benny Dunnes point to put us 5 ahead with 2 minutes left, that I felt we had it.

Where will the Munster final be? Its against Ballygunnar, so assume cork be neutral location for it

  • Registered Users Posts: 117 ✭✭lonestar 74

Great win for Borris today. The final against Ballygunner in 2 weeks time. Young Devaney scored a great goal at the start of the second half which gave them a great lift (should have had a bigger lead at half time). Late on he also tracked back 50/60 metres and got in a vital hook when Borris were under pressure.

Yes in recent history the last 2 finals tipp have been dominant over kilkenny, that is simply fact, i look forward to playing kilkenny these days, i dont care if you dont agree my opinions, roll on 2020 championship when i hope we will meet kilkenny again and beat them by 15 points this time. Kilkenny did crumble and die in 2016 and 2019, thats not up for debate. Its the **** talk from ex kilkenny players why it makes it alll the sweeter when we hammer kilkenny, you would never hear the vitriol coming from larkin tyrell etc from ex tipp players. How many more autobiographys are we going to see from kilkenny, embarrassing at this stage.

Don't remember Cummins stooping to that level, a phrase IL borrow from larkin. If you read some of the comments on the Kilkenny forum, 1 guy suggested our corner back should have been in jail during the all Ireland. All I do is state facts and I won't hide my dislike of Kilkenny, the crap that bwas talked on thebgaa forum before the all Ireland was very disrespectful to one of the greatest teams we have produced, a few haven't logged in since, Kilkenny has lost a alotnof respect since the final with all the ex players denying the red card and appealing it just shows their mindset, I stopped posting on Kilkenny forum as it was borderline trolling but I sure as hell won't stop posting here when all I'm doing is stating facts. Some of the might not remember Eddie Brennan in the Luas mouthing at tipp fans either years ago, I don't know ex players from any other county who carry in like some of the Kilkenny crowd with trying to insult players from other counties, Tyrrell said they would ntb drink tipperary spring water FFS and if car had tipp reg his uncle wouldn't service it, think was his uncle the mechanic. Just some if the reasons for my sentiments.

Tyrell and Eddie don’t like Tipp, same way as you don’t like Kilkenny. So fu*c*ing what!

Life isn’t all hugs and kisses everyone having to like eachother.

That's my point players should have more respect than some random anonymous person like me, not a hard concept to grasp that only Kilkenny players fail to understand. way to miss a point .Even derekbmcgrath said in buildup to final, Tyrrell's comments would be a motivating factor for tipp.
