12z GFS coming in a touch further south with snow potential for Ulster as track runs Mayo to Louth. No change in the intensity.

12z RGEM has same basic plot as 06z.

12Z ECM The W and SW getting a good rattle initially ,Gusty over land. I was thinking the E coast might get quite strong winds as the Low deepens and exits into the Irish Sea

GFS18Z has lowered the strength a bit bringing the strongest wind off the S coast , gust 90-100 km/h overland

ICON 18Z has eased a bit too but higher wind speeds then the GFS keeping gusts to 100-110 km/h overland

AROME 18Z a handy model and and fairly accurate showing gusts 100 -120 km/h overland. Looks quite strong as it exits the East coast.

This storm is looking like more of an issue for the southern half of the country. Still uncertainty reigns but lets see what the models deliver tomorrow morning.

Georgina has moved about halfway across the Atlantic in 12 hours, and the M6 buoy continues to produce gusts near 60 knots. It is clearly trying to grab Fionn's energy and could come in at a faster pace than the models earlier were showing. Watching developments very closely here. There are no helpful ship reports, ships were routed way south days ago. But satellite shows considerable potential.

If in Ulster or any county that is close to Ulster, monitor the snowfall for Ulster thread closely, this looks like a potential 5-10 cm blizzard set-up on a track like south Mayo to Meath or north Dublin. (snow would be anything north of the track and then filling in behind the departing low Thursday).

00z guidance so far not much change, if anything it has nudged north a few miles on the GFS and Arpege, about the same on GEM. Track still close to border of NI and ROI.

Periods of snow rather than a blizzard perhaps, for inland Ulster. We should get a pretty big signal when it passes the M6 buoy around 17-18z.

Interesting as it shows the potential for wind speeds to sometimes increase inland and the widely believed idea that the highest winds always occur in coastal regions does not always hold true.

A fast moving Atlantic depression will cross Ireland this evening and early tonight bringing winds of 50 to 65km/h and gusts of 90 to 110km/h to many counties. Winds may temporarily exceed these values in exposed Atlantic coastal fringes for a time this evening. There is an increased risk of coastal flooding due to the combination of the high seas, strong winds and the low pressure.

They name the storms before the event dependant on forecast wind speeds, This is a borderline situation wether to name or not.

They name storms if they get to Orange level wind warnings. Consideration is also given to rain warnings.

It was looking ferocious earlier in the week with a powerful jet stream,pity really,all's it done to serve is to disrupt the Greenland flow and shorten the cold spell proper to about 1 day,while diluting the cold potential in the following days.

Although I never bother watching the forecast after the 1 news,they're not meteorologists and fail to go into finer detail.

I hope it doesn't sneak up on us,as everyone's attention is more focused towards the potential snow event further north.

It could also upgrade nearer the time.

This system is noteworthy as any late unprogged deepening and we have a severe wind even in Greater Dublin. Would not rule out a severe swathe of 110-130kph gusts impacting this populated area for a few hours, it's been closely watched and an orange upgrade is possible

Very Gusty Winds have suddenly picked up in west mayo.

Siobhan Ryan mentioning the winds will reach orange levels at times with severe winds possible.

About a hour ago there was a massive increase in winds at a rapid pace.
Still currently intensifying with violent gusts,Very wild out there and not what i was expecting,Still no weather station so cannot provide readings.

Sherkin gusting 48 knots
Mace head gusting 45 knots.
Valentia 43 knots.

Nice range in temperature from South to North, Valentia 11 degrees , Ballyhaise in Cavan 2 degrees.

Huge rise in temp here over the last hour, 4.3 about an hour ago, now 9.3c! Wind 17 knots mean.
