The state has a lot to answer for regarding this squalid 'gangland' pile of s**te which is glamourised by the Paul Williams, the Indo and the Sunday World, it's been allowed to fester ever since the days of Martin Cahill.

I always get the sense that a lot of people get a weird voyeuristic buzz out of it feeding off the lawless 'wild Irish' self caricature.

There wouldn't be such an underclass if we followed a more Benelux or Nordic model of society even though it was always the case that the existing state apparatus and legal system would by and large deliver an 'Anglo' society as much as we self-pleasure ourselves about being 'Not British/English'.

Another legacy of colonial rule is that people love being outraged, appalled or looking down their noses at the Deco's, the John-Paul's and the Tracey's but aren't the slightest bit interested in improving social mobility as they viscerally enjoy having these people 'in their inferior place'.

yes and remove all the cushy items when they arrive in prison example, TV radio, remove signal so phone cant be used, punish them don't send them on holiday with friends, basic food, prisoners are better feed than our homeless, 25 to life should be minimum for murder, most murders end up as manslaughter charges anyway, also i remember when i was homeless and got send to st patricks institution for shoplifting, not justifying it, but when i was there, i asked a prison officer why on earth has the rapist and peado's have a pool table on there landing down the base, i was told by prison officer that there not criminals there down as sick - unwell, they need to punished not giving gifts, you do not reward bad behavior obviously

What about budgies? Would they be banned too or they still ok? 😂😂
You’re right I’ve actually heard some people saying it’s not as bad once you’re settled in there.

I'd rather live in my car with the daughter , join a community center gym and use their facilities for shower etc and cook on a camping gas stove , rather than let her grow up in amongst that utter sh!t .

The problem in those areas is that adults, not all but most, don't give a damn about there kids, where they are, what they're doing etc. Just drive through Darn of the dales or Fingerless or cuckoo lock in general at 10pm and you'll see kids well under 10 years old still out running around , up as late as midnight. Don't tell me that is nonsense as I see it regularly.

It is nonsense😂 personally from one of the areas and the place is dead by 10 save the new garda patrols, can't speak for the other mentioned areas. As far as children being out till all hours you only get it in cul de sacs and the likes where there's a direct view from the front of any house. Personally don't see any kids out playing anymore, all too busy with social media

They could always spell, that was only to throw off people trying to identify them.

My mates brother just got out of the joy before Christmas. He spent the last few months of his sentence on protection because someone wanted his cell next to their mates, and told him he was getting cut up if he didn't get out of it.

But hey, sure it's a holiday camp, isn't it. All the luxuries etc.

Thats funny cos I've lived in Coolock my whole life and I never see kids under the age of ten roaming the streets at that time of night, so I'm calling bull**** on that one.

Most of us around here are decent people, trying our best to raise our kids and put food on the table, while we have to live with this absolute hell going on around us, the only time we ever see the guards actually in one of the estates around here is AFTER something happens because they dont give a **** about people around here either.

I live in coolock too I went to college got a degree have worked all my life and was brought up here. I’m not in the best estate but most of my neighbours work. I have two teenage boys and they are getting g ready to go to college

The legalisation point has merit. Gang warfare exploded during the illegal sale of booze during prohibition, leading to numerous innocent and not so innocent deaths. Tainted liquor was a serious issue too.

If the profit and lifestyle are suitably high enough, sentence deterrent would not matter much.

Anyone who says jails are cushy jobs, clearly never done time or even visited a friend who has. The only jail I would consider like that was perhaps a bit cushy were the houses wing in castlerea, minor offenders and some behave ex paramilitaries done their time there in 99 to 2008. Not sure who they house there now.

Some on here seem to know what they are talking about, others put newspaper stories together and try and come off like their in a click. I am a bit old to know the craic anymore but from my knowledge most of the time 90% of those involved in criminality all know one another to a greater or lesser extent, much the same way those involved in any other specialised professions would know each other.

And be damned sure they (known gangsters) read these boards. May even post, to throw out a fish to catch a whale !!

    Sunday World journalist.

On other point, the state nearly always picks a side. The reason drugs exploded after the 1990's was the state took their eye off criminality to deal with other threats namely the paramilitaries. Corruption is also rife, no need to be a rocket scientist to figure out how Garda find themselves or their wives running cash rich lucrative operations like pubs and hotels.

In terms of worldwide issue, almost every country deals with their drugs problems in the same way. The state picks a side, let's them run the show until they usually **** up bad.

The State cant legalise drugs. Theyre signed up members of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.

We thought Love Hate was a drama, but its being played out in real life now on the streets of Ireland.

Except Love Hate was tame compared to this.

The only way to solve this is for the State to come down really hard on criminals. If it can work against the Mafia, then I'm sure it can work here.

I agree and it’s high time our (whatever) government sent out there own chilling message after this otherwise our generations will continue to be decimated.

I highly doubt it as there is no other 17 year old from Drogheda related to both gangland in coolock and drogheda that have gone missing. So all bets are more than likely on KM
