Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey lads and ladies. I doing the marathon saturday and just wondering how GPS is affected in the forest. Anyone that has done this race in the last few years?

Ah, no need for gps, I know Galway can seem a bit wild, but you won't get lost in the woods. :D

The trees won't affect signal that much, you will still have a record of it. I did it last year and the watch was spot on.

The one thing we didn't want on Saturday is happening. Wet and 40km winds!

I was in Galway for a stag a while back, can get wild enough :)

I'd be hopeful that the forest setting would limit the impact of any wind in a similar way to Donadea. I guess the rain will still get at us though!

There is a section the last Km that is open and into the direction of prevailing wind. Thankfully the norwegians are forecasting rain 13°C and a fresh 8m/s westerly breeze.

I'm out. Did the 50k here last year & loved it. For anyone who is doing it for the first time - ye'll love it. It's a great race. Lovely course, & the set up is fantastic, especially the home straight section.

I'm not committing to any races anymore on Boards. I put my name down in both the Connemarathon thread & this one & they're the only two target races I've missed so far this year.

Good luck to all. Have a family funeral tomorrow but I hope to make it out there at some stage to cheer ye on.

I'm out of the half-marathon I'm afraid. A mixture of illness and injury has brought about my downfall :(

Ah well, the organisers hae kindly deferred my entry so I'll be back to have a crack at it next year :D

I'm sure we'll bump into each other fairly early in the race. I'll be wearing a Donadea 50k t-shirt (anto - free entry again next year if I hit my target time??:pac:) so say hello.
I think we'll need a bit of company to keep us going!

Not putting down a time at all this time as it'll only annoy me later, I'd like to improve on Donadea but not holding much hope

Thats why I put 3.16ish as my time, had planned sitting on your shoulder and letting you off in the last k to take the credit you deserve for dragging me around :)

Arrived a few minutes ago. Lovely spot, not a breath of wind & sun shining at mo at least.
    The calm before the storm??

The 100km fun-runners just headed off into glorious sunshine. Hopefully we'll see more of that than rain thru-out the day. About 30 brave souls all with nervous smiles! Back to the car for a 25 min snooze ...

The 50km gang started exactly 2hrs after the 100km group. And would you believe it...clouds parted and glorious sunshine again..great buzz here keeping me awake till I start in about 3 1/2hrs..o-er!!

3hrs in and first shower of the day, more than welcome I'd imagine. Anyone coming down later to watch should spot Tbf easily enough...nice bright orange top..and he passes just as I type...

The swarm of Marathon runners passed. Its a game of dodge the showers at mo. This has to be one of the best races for family interaction . I can see why its growing in popularity.

Not good. Not good at all. :O
Major blow up after half way and final 5km loop was at jogging pace with a hr at 10km pace. DNFed at 27km. Bad habit that must be stopped!

MrStew did 3:20, just outside a pb.

Similar blow up here. 3:25 never on and 3:30 attempt cut short. Could not take on gels and more importantly electrolyte from Lap 3. Suffered serious cramps for lap 6,7 & 8. Got home in 3:52 ish.

You could not fault the course or the organisation.

For whatever reasons, it sounds like it was a tough day out there. I was talking to one of our club members & there were similar stories of major blow ups on our side from experienced runners.

Didn't make it out there today but I'm already planning for next year.

Savage running by Ruth Ann Sheahan again in the 100k. As far as I know she averaged 8.30's for the whole lot despite feeling sick for the last 4 hours. A machine!!

Ruthann was looking very smooth every time I saw her - fair play to her, that's savage running!

    What's ur club Bugsy...Athenry?

Very well organised by Seb & co. Only thing I would say is it got quite congested out there.

Yep, Athenry. It was nearly like a home race last year there were so many of us competing. That was the plan again this year but between injuries, illness & pregnancies we were decimated.

I found it fine last year but with the extra races & the increased popularity I could well imagine it getting crowded.

10.49 for me, had a few stomach problems early and leg problems later on,jjust happy to finish.
Ultraman1 broke 10 hours, one of the steadiest runs I've ever seen.

Great race. Lovely course, well organised and extremely friendly atmosphere.

Rarely have I had so much fun while wearing clothes!
