Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

TV size recommendation

    Hey guys,

Been browsing the forum and see that you guys really know your stuff.

Currently getting prepared to move into our new house and the main living room is going to have a false chimney breast on which we are hoping to mount a TV. We are being told the breast will be 180cm wide. What size of a TV would you recommend to mount? Would a 65/70" be too big?

Also depending on size suggestion from above what would you recommend for a budget in and around 1000?

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Hi Coff66,

    Thanks for the post!

I think you would get away with a 65" but anything bigger might be too big for that width of chimney breast!

The one I'd recommend around that budget would be the Sony KD65XG8505 at 1049 euro! It's 1450mm wide but has a great panel with an Android operating system and very good motion processing as well!

    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203982-sony-bravia-kd65xg8505bu-65-inch-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-led-android-tv-youview.aspx

Let me know what you think of this option!

    Kind regards

    David

    Hi David,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm glad to hear I wasn't being too over optimistic with the sizes. A 65" sounds like it would be ideal, and that Sony looks fantastic.

This leads on to further questions I suppose around mounting. Hoping to have the TV recessed into the breast to be flush with the breast when not in use but have the option to extend and change the viewing angle depending on numbers in the room. I think it's a cantilever mount I'd be looking for? I hope I'm making sense in what I'm describing? Could you recommend the best option for this?

    Thanks,

    Coff66

65 inch TV is about 1440mm (nice mix of metric and imperial there). I have a 55 inch TV in a chimney breast of 1600mm which gives about 200mm on either side and it looks good with that allowance on either side. A 65 in your chimney breast will have about the same allowance and would look fine

That looks really impressive. Is that recessed into the breast or flat on the wall?

    Hey Coff66.

For a full motion bracket you could check out the Sanus BLF213 which is coming in at 199 euro

    Hi Kenny,

Thanks again for the information. Would that be slimmest profile mount available? Want make the recess depth as small as possible to facilitate TV and mount.

Also she who must be obeyed has questioned whether the 65" TV would be too big for the room, so could you suggest something in a 60" again with a budget of a max 1000 preferably below.

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Hey Coff66.

There aren't really any 60" on the market.
It normally goes 55" and then up to 65"

Panasonic do have a 58" the 58HX800 priced at 899 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204654-panasonic-tx58hx800b-58-inch-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-led-tv-freeview-play.aspx

The Sanus full motion mentioned above is pretty neat when folded in against the wall and also when extended.
We use on of these in our demo room.

There is another version available but it is more expensive.
The Sanus VLF728 pried at 269 Euro - I could drop this to 225 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204142-sanus-vlf728-black-42-90-inch-cantilever-tv-bracket.aspx

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Hi Kenny,

I am back again and back looking at 65" inch TV's. The sony you recommended above seems to not be listed anymore. What would you be suggesting as next best, price range 800-900 preferably.

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Coff66,

thanks for the post and apologies for the delay getting back to you - yep that SONY was part of the 'XG' series and was fantastic value - it has been replaced by the XH series and unfortunately all the 65" 'XH' will bust your piggy bank wide open then reverse over poor piggy as they start at circa £999 :(

If you wanted an alternative the LG 65UN81006 is a super TV and comes in ( this is a first for me!) under budget at  £699 / 799€:
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-204664-lg-65un81006lb-65-inch-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-led-tv-freeview-play-freesat-hd.aspx

or from Philips - possibly the VERY best TV you will buy within your budget - the Philips 65PUS8555 is really superb ( currently out of stock but hopefully some stock arriving in the next couple of weeks) - and we could just about squeeze it into budget..
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-204830-philips-65pus8555-65-inch-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-led-tv-freeview-play.aspx

Hope that's helpful but as ever drop us a line and we will do our best to assist,

    Hey John,

    Really appreciate the replies.

I take it if it was your money, it's going on the Philips!? Are you expecting many in when the stock arrives or will it be a case of taking a chance to wait and hoping to get one!?

    Kind regards,

    Coff66

Sorry, never replied. It's recessed into the breast but flush with the front of it. It's about 300mm deep, loads of room behind TV for cables, connections, plugs, sockets etc

    That would be great thanks.

Will also be looking to bundle with 2 of the sanus wall mounts mentioned above also, one for the Philips and one for an existing 55" that we already have. Hoping a package boardsie deal will be doable?

    Hey guys,

I'm sure ye are up the walls with Black Friday but has there been any update on the 65" Philips TV recommended earlier in this thread?

Or has another, equally specced 65" TV come in to the picture for the budget with reductions etc?

    Thanks,

    Coff66

The NANO Cell LG in my opinion would have the better image of all the TV's listed.

    Kenny.

    Super thanks Kenny!

As I said previously I'll also be looking for 2 of these:

    Not bothered by which colour.

What is the absolute best price you can do for the LG Nano and 2 of the VLF728 brackets?

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Hey Coff66.

I can't go any better on the TV but for the brackets I could offer at 169 Euro Each.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Hey Kenny,

Happy to go ahead and pull the trigger on the LG Nano and the 2 mounts. What's the best way to order to guarantee that price for the mounts?

    Thanks,

    Hey guys,

Just to flag the TV arrived on Wednesday as promised. Haven't had a chance to get it set up yet unfortunately and it's looking like it will be the new year now before the house will be ready.

I just wanted to commend the advice and service offered throughout and say that ye will always be the first port of call when in the market for any new items.

    Thanks again,

    Coff66

    Hey David,

Happy new year and hope ye all had a good Christmas.

I have just gotten around to opening my new today this afternoon and unfortunately things did not go as had been hoped.

I was checking the TV was working ok as have arranged to get it mounted during the week. I have attached a picture of what the screen looked like upon powering it on, so disappointing.

I am hoping this will be an easy process to get sorted?

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Hi David,

Happy new year, I hope ye all had a good Christmas.

Just got around to opening my new TV today with getting moved to the new house as I have it planned to be mounted during the week. I was just checking it was working ok. Unfortunately it appears that the screen has been damaged some where along the delivery chain.

I have attached a picture of the screen when we powered on the TV.

I am hoping the process is fairly straightforward to get this sorted?

    Thanks,

    Coff66

Thanks for the post Coff66 and I'm sorry to see the TV is damaged.

Do you have any photos of the packaging of the TV and also of the full screen when switched on?

Did you notice any damage to the packaging of the TV when it was delivered?

If you can get those across to us we will have a look into this for you.

    Kind regards

    David

    Hi David,

Didn't notice anything on the packaging, except a very small hole, that looks like it may have caught a point of something, I'll get some pictures ASAP.

I literally only slipped it out of the box and and connected the power to see if it turned on ok, I'll get a picture of the full screen also.

It will probably later this evening before I'll get them, so you will be seeing them in the morning.

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Hey David,

So took the pictures as requested and glad you did ask as without looking at the whole screen never would have seen what was there. It appears the main damage was caused to the bottom right hand side of the screen, there is clearly a dent in the screen with part of the screen having cracked.

After seeing this went back and inspected the box a bit more thoroughly and there is a dent on the front of the box like something had been dragged along but the box has not be pierced.

I have attached pictures of the box and of the screen from both sides.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks,

    Coff66

    Hey Kenny,

    Thanks for the update.

Had purchased the TV for our new house which we are only getting to move into over the next few weeks. Only open the box yesterday to check all was working before getting it mounted during the week. I had naively assumed that as there was no clearly obvious damage to the box, that all inside was ok.

    Thanks,

    Coff66
