Anyone hear Ellie Goulding’s cover of Joni Michell’s River. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BM2pwJAHXP8

They are playing it regularly on bbc radio 2. I think it’s lovely.

I haven't heard Hugh O'Brien this year so far. He would tend to be on Saturday evenings when he is on Christmas FM. Has anyone heard him so far?
Hugh's last show on Christmas FM was in 2017. Like a lot of presenters from the golden era of Irish radio, he decided to call it a day.

Enough of Hudson Taylor though. Seriously, their song is being played to death!

So it turns out that the Hudson Taylor song is being used in the current 3 ad. That might explain the airtime. Still tires of hearing it though.

I heard an interesting take on Frosty the Snowman by The Cocteau Twins last night. This was on Pat James' show, Off the Record, on Radio Nova's digital station Classic Rock. It is yet another song that I can't see making Christmas FM's library of songs.

On Saturday night, I happened to hear The Christmas Tree by Dustin The Turkey on community radio station NEAR FM, which I had briefly tuned into in the car. Does that song ever get played on Christmas FM?

I heard "Text Me Christmas" the other day driving, and had to fight the urge to drive into a wall.

Surely one of the most annoying songs out there?

Actually, I have heard that Hudson Taylor song (How I Know It's Christmas) a couple of times now on Christmas FM and I quite like it. The lyrics in the opening verse are a bit clunky (trying to fit the words "Grafton Street" into the tune!), but, overall, it is a pleasant little ditty with a nice Christmas feel to it.

I'm the opposite, if I never hear that Hudson Taylor song again itll be too soon, sick of hearing it to the extent I now really dislike it.

Hate to ask but when is ChristmasFM finishing this year? I’ve a trip back to Dublin to make tomorrow and I want it to guide the trip back.

Never mind the ChristmasFM site perfectly answered my question.

Christmas FM will begin broadcasting on FM on Thursday November 28th 2019 at 1pm and will finish broadcasting on FM on Friday December 27th. The station will continue online and on digital until December 31st. The station will then operate a sustaining service online from January 1st throughout the year.

So I will have it for my journey back to Dublin.

Fair play to them having a live broadcast again for Christmas Day. :)

A reminder that while the FM broadcast stops tonight there is live programming on mobile, tablets, online and smart speakers right up to New Years.

It doesn't even feel like a week since they started broadcasting! :(

The daughter is going to be upset, she has had it on all night and every night since went live.
She was even listening to the online version too before hand.

Will be sad having to re-tune my radios later. Once again a great year for Christmas FM and so much raised for another great cause

All good things have to come to an end, but hey won't feel November 2020 coming up on top of us at all :)

Online will still have live shows for the next few days :)

And it’s available online all year minus the live programming.

Great way to close out the FM broadcast.
Our 'Cool 40 Countdown' is now live on-air until 7pm. Join us as we play the definitive list of Christmas songs based on your texts, emails, and messages into the studio!

Just back from walking the dog while listening to the top 40. I’d lying if I said I didn’t have a lump in my throat when Bing Cosby came on and the peace on the roads it felt lovely out.

Countdown seems a bit bonkers... Driving at Home for Christmas at #19 and John Legend(!) in top 10...

Always saddens me to hear the broadcast go silent at the end of each year, as one of those folks that only listens to the fm broadcasts it seems like the 11 months without it last forever, but funnily seems to go faster every year and forms a great focal point in the build up each year... so whilst it represents the end of another year I look forward to awaiting its return in nov. 2020.

They played It's Coming Home (Alfie Hudson-Taylor) & Baby It's Cold Outside (Dean Martin) during the Countdown but not sure if they were part of the Top 40 or not. Things got a bit random at times.

These were all in the Top 10:
    Happy Xmas - John Lennon
Rocking Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee
    Felice Navidad - José Feliciano
    Sleigh Ride - The Ronettes

#4 Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams
    #3 Last Christmas - Wham
#2 All I Was For Christmas is You - Mariah Carey
#1 Fairytale of New York - Pogues

Then they re-played "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" which was the opening song back in November.

Not going to lie to you I clicked on just as that started to play and immediately teared up. Brought me straight to the excitement back at the end of November when the build up was reaching fever pitch.

Yeah Wham, Mariah, and the Pogues are generally the universal top 3 in these things! Fair play

Great to see Feliz Navidad doing so well, what a belter. I really loved Kylie's song this year aswell. Was great to see both getting an airing on the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special this year too!

So ChristmasFM just rang me. Apparently I won €100 one for all voucher on Stephens Day. I’m delighted. I texted a lot this year I didn’t even know about the prize on Stephens day I was just texting to use up credit and to donate.

Yep agree with all of those! It's good to see some newer Christmas songs that will last a few years.

On the other hand, I never want to hear that Hudson Taylor song again. An awful pitiful whine of a thing that managed to ruin the Christmas from Kilkenny Castle programme for me. It was overplayed far too much. Just because it's homegrown doesn't mean it needs to be played to death.

Overall though, I enjoyed Christmas FM this year. Didn't hear it as much as previous years because I didn't spend as much time in the car but the kids loved playing it at home and they both had their favourites. The older one adored Christmas Tree Farm and would shriek with delight whenever she heard it while the younger one loved I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas :D

Not enough Jonah Lewie or Bowie/Crosby for my liking but the station caters for all listeners, not just ageing farts like me. The texts are the best though. Had a few read out and the kids thought it was the best thing ever. It really is the little things...

Not just your kids. I almost caused a car crash when I heard mine read out on air. I’ve heard 2 read out this year. 2 more than any other year.

I got to listen to way more ChristmasFM this season because of Alexa. Prior to getting an Alexa our radio was a bit crackily. With Alexa we got to have ChristmasFM on in the mornings getting ready and while making dinner and tidying so a good bit.

It also guided us on 2 trips to Tipp in December.

The most amazing things about ChristmasFM are the amazing work they do for all the charities and they fact it really feels like a unique Christmas tradition that both young and old near and far. When listening to it live you really get the feeling of community and like something really special is happening.

Yeah the community thing is definitely something that reverberates with me. I collected my mother on Christmas Day to bring her over to our house and sent a text saying hi to the kids etc and it was read out.
Next thing my brother in Holland whatsapped me saying he heard the message. I didn't even think he listened to the station but that one WhatsApp really made my day! It made the world seem a smaller place for a few magical moments

Sent in a request but never heard it, others did, so didnt have the Christmas fm fix.

I still remember about 2010-11 driving back from work from the middle of the desert in another country with an Irish colleague. We were in a remote location and 3g was on and off. Christmas fm new to both of us. We were not close pals and work was fracious however I banged in a request whilst he was driving and it got called out. We then sang along with 2 hours of Christmas music. Might have been 2011 as I don't think I got home that year.

Listen to a lot more Christmas FM this year then previously. I really liked the 'Big Yawn' at 7.30am every morning as me and Elf1 would be in the car on our own, as dropping her to breakfast club. We use to do a big yawn together. It was great that there was three presenters on so lots of chat and banter, not just one person talking on their own.
