Maybe look at the people involved with this event? Their beliefs etc...it is nothing to do with a sense of pride in being straight... Look at the people speaking at it (e.g. Milo Yiannopoulos), the organisers, the flags and groups involved.

Milo Yiannopolous is opnely gay and married to his African American boyfriend. Not a great example of intolerance there. You might not agree with his politics but he's every bit as gay and open about it as the dildo waving guy wearing a rainbow thong.

I'd argue he's done more to have homosexuality accepted by Conservative Americans than 20000 gay pride marches.

Imagine you are a gay teen in say Alabama. Who is an easier sell to your parents and friends : a pro Trump well dressed guy or the dildo waving guy above?

Could you imagne straight pride being addressesd by an openly gay man before Milo?

He is also a complete opportunist scumbag...who has thankfully been banned from pretty much every social media platform for his far right trolling and neo naziism support amongst other things...I am well aware he is gay lol.
Argue away...but if Conservative Americans look to him to try and improve acceptance I wouldn't....for one he supports pedophilia.
The fact you use a "dildo waving guy wearing a rainbow thong" or Milo as the two examples to "sell" being gay.....says it all.

I read a great comment on the twitters about the straight pride parade.

“They already have a straight pride parade. It’s called Saint Patrick’s Day parade”

I thought it was funny anyway :pac:

Also I have "How to be a LGBTQ+ Ally" posters in my workplace telling me how to behave towards LGBT people in a very condescending way. How i should constantly check my privilege.

Including bizarrely being ready to give hugs at all times. Ehhh no. There's something called consent, and MeToo.

There we go. Intolerance 101. I was purposely using the extreme examples that the conservative types could use to said gay teen. Then you say that "says it all". Next I'll be called a nazi.

I'm not claiming Milo is a saint... He's made a good career from this... But so many others have too.

That is not intolerance 101...you admitted you picked two extremes....maybe the LGBT person could think of a slightly more middle of the road "normal" example of a gay person?

He is a nazi supporter...I am not sure where the doubt is.
He was singing karaoke to a nazi crowd giving him nazi salutes ffs.

Nope. Milo actually is a neo-nazi sympathiser. Read his Wikipedia page for the cliff notes version. Or look at any of the photos of him wearing nazi paraphernalia.

Milo is used as propaganda for the alt right, to say “look we don’t mind the gays as long as they’re as hateful as us”.

Honestly I thought most people saw through him by now. I guess some still slip through the cracks.

has this thread seriously degraded to "straight" lads threatening to turn Ireland into Russia where gays get beaten in the street?

what these little dweebs would want to remember is that we would simply kick the sh!t out of them if this occurred.

also, here's my reasoning for why there seem to be so many of these little tiny-minded trolls:

they are Jealous. why? they see the legitimisation of being gay as "rubbing it in their face" why? because Gays finally have options.
they are stuck with some moaning woman, who then has kids, which means they are forced to work to pay for the kid for pretty much the rest of their days.

they are financially burdened by the very life they "choose" to live (ie: the straight one) , they are stuck in the rat-race of the straight life... they MUST go to their mundane jobs to support "the family" and they are essentially imprisoned. they HATE that gays can keep all their earnings for themselves if they choose, there'll be no moaning wife, they can continue to go to the pub/drink/socialise like they were still 18.

they are simply Jealous that gay men are not "Stuck" into the rat-race life of the straight man.

so, lads, go on out and spend your disposable income, have a dance on a schoolnight and a few whiskeys.

always remember - the straights are the ones who are STUCK in the rat race.

    we can live.

Thats quite surprising in ways considering some of the homophobic views you express here that gay men kissing in public are pathetic attention seekers, that Ireland is "pussified" and obsessed with "the gay agenda" and that only certain types of gay men are acceptable.

It's not homophobic to despise attention-seeking behaviour.

It's not homophobic to say that we as a society have become 'pussified'. If you had enquired, you would discover that I amongst others use that term on these boards in very broad contexts that have ZERO to do with the issue of homophobia. But you didn't ask.

It is juvenile to suggest that a person is homophobic because they despise the cringy, shrill, loud, boring, fakeness of so many gays in the public eye.

The problem with you, and your ilk, is that you paranoically think any criticism of any gay person is an attack on the totality of the gay community.

At the very least, you make that accusation reflexively, over and over again.

    Tactically, in other words.

I’m gay. Most of my friends are gay. Neither I nor any of them behave in a loud shrill cringy way at all. Your sweeping generalization is rather ridiculous.
You still run the risk anywhere in Ireland of getting beaten up for even being identifiably gay never mind holding hands with your boyfriend. You’ll regularly still have some prick shouting homophobic abuse out his car window or from gangs of scumbag teens, which can be be even worse and to lead to violence. So this ‘attention seeking’ bullish!t is exactly that.

I never actually see any of the behaviors you mentioned even in gay bars. I often see homophobic pricks being just that though.

Why are you criticising gay people if as you claim you don’t have any problem with them?

You can’t even point to the bad stereotypes of gay people in media any longer as they seem to have disappeared given the way culture and acceptance and equality have come to Change that.
If you can I’m happy to hear of them. That bad damaging gay stereotype annoyed ordinary gay people a lot more Then you and for a lot longer and lead to people like you thinking as you do.
    Clearly.

It’s ignorance fear and basic insecurity in my experience when I come across views like these. Often it’s just a homophobic prick who can’t be the homophobic prick he actually is, cos hey. forum, rules forbid it.
Very often people like you are just sad closet cases an lashing out.

You can’t justify making sweeping generalizations of all gay people in barely disguised homophobic remarks and then try place it behind the ridiculous defense ‘you’re just goin to call me homophobic! Paranoid! So easily offended!’ Nobody’s falling for that.

Ps if you’re so against everything be so pussified why do gay people bother you so much?
Oh so fragile. Oh so threatened.

Totally and this ****e isn't the most subtle in tone either. He would benefit from remembering the likes of Roger Casement or Kathleen Lynn. Both were 1916 revolutionaries and were gay. Meanwhile Lefty leaving insightful remarks like this.
Historically, homosexuals have tended not to have much to contribute to the preservation or maintenance of that will to survive, either by deed or lifestyle. Unless there are things about Josef Pilsudski, or Witold Pilecki that are not more generally known.
