Ah Rex is a necessary evil at this point in time for me but hopefully not for the next round.

It's almost new 14 K miles, sweet.

That's pretty cool that you didn't even have to go pick it up, not sure I would risk it but well done !

You'll have loads of fun in it, great fun on back roads.

Just remember if planning a long trip which involves a fast charge to have the battery warm, it will heat to 10 Deg C only but that and driving should have it warm enough so fast charging doesn't slow down much.

In order to heat the battery it must be plugged in and a depart time set at least 4 hrs in advance with preheat
activated.

Very handy in cold weather.

Wife has the sensible family car if we go on longer trips, this is my fun car with still practicality.

One of my 1st cars was a Peugeot 205 soft top, which I loved. It was unreliable, leaky and I loved it to bits. It had a name (CJ) and it had a huge 'Herbie' factor to it.

Changed to a Z4, cool, technically brilliant car but soulless.

Then a Saab 9-3 Aero, comfortable, cool, faultless, soulless

Then a Ds5, ultra cool, wrapped in gadgets, comfortable, zero fun.

But already this has put the smile back on my face, small, fun, fast. Mad colour, mad looks. Feck cool, feck practicality, feck compromise. I'm smiling.

And as for the race mentioned above BEV 0—100kmh 7.2, REX 7.7...

So adding together all those .5 seconds and I reckon I'll be up by about 7 seconds on Mad-Lad by New Year's. So when they start the countdown from 10, when they get to 7 Mad_Lad will have to realise I'm already in 2019...

Lets do a long range test then to see who wins haha.

Great fun, the handling is good and the ride is good also, you feel the road but not uncomfortable and the steering is very sharp and direct, and getting into another car can make it feel like a boat.

i3 has tonnes of grip all FWD electrics can only dream of so in some circumstances the i3 will feel a lot faster compared to a FWD EV of the same power.

I love the interior too. Lovely place to sit.

Did you get the larger media screen ?

Very nice. Was looking at a review of the i3s yesterday. Wonder if you could put in those i3s wheel arches and get urself the wider tyres.

Why would you want wider tyres ? it handles fine and has plenty of grip, and a lot more grip than any FWD EV.

Any idea how to change speedo to kmh, preferably only kmh.

I've gone to settings and changed units to metric, which has changed all my range etc, but speedo remains Mph with small kmh under.

Called into Joe Duffy as I was passing, they don't really know but are contacting Germany for advice, think they might want to change screen.

Only Google reference involves changing code, and that's from a Canadian annoyed about a US car. And also I can't code

Aye that's the only reference I can find to this, there are no other comments. So since I don't have the connection or experience to go coding, and Duffy dealership seems clueless - any idea who I should contact next.

I'd go back and show them that link to be honest.

Failing that a good specialist who has the bmw program shoudl be able to code it in for you (or you could look at doing it yourself)

Coder here. Its a simple replace of a variable. The hard part is that you need to get some software/hardware.

Asking Joe Duffey to do it would be akin to asking PC World to configure your PC registry. Its the line of work but its also not their line of work.

First, did you check the settings below ? I didn't check beforehand so perhaps it might be different after coding. You see where it says "Distance" this is the setting you're after, again, not sure if this was in the menu before coding lol, but anyway it works as you can see in the last image.

Your 2nd image is what I have, mph above small kmh - although my odometer and range are also metric.

Changing from metric to imperial only changes the odometer and range units, not the speedo.

That's because it's coded not to because it was sold in the U.K , so I'd say if you can change that piece of code then it will change the speedo too. It's really easy.

My 2nd image is what I was able to change it to after changing the piece of code and changing distance to miles, the pic is to demonstrate in reverse, going from Km to Miles, so if you change the code then go back and change to Km your speedo will show Km as the large readout, i.e, the way you want it.

I just use Bimmercode or if you're anywhere Near Carlow Town over the weekend I can do it for you.

So I've just pretty much convinced my Dad that the compressor in the front boot is actually a defibrillator that is hooked up to the battery pack in the car, as part of a new EU directive in anticipation of wider EV use (the tyre sealant btw is the gel to stop burns).

But I've also told him there's a serious flaw in that 1 person has to hold the defibrillator in place, and another has to rev the car to deliver the shock.

Don't think he's 100% convinced yet, but he's also amazed at what modern technology can do.

Brought car in for NCT.

Very entertaining, 2 mechanics took 5 minutes to get car going, another few minutes to figure out wipers.

Lots of playing with and laughing at rear doors.

Big search and discussion about engine and finally a fail because of no VIN number on car.

Pointed out VIN number stamped under driver seat, and then it passed.

It is a bit ridiculous that car manufacturers stamp the VIN in so many different places. Just some that come to mind are:

Left side of dashboard behind windscreen.
Drivers side door jam.
Under bonnet on firewall.
Under driver seat.
Under spare tyre in boot.
Car frame near screen wash fluid bottle.
Wheel well.

Some cars have it in a few locations...other, not so much.

Got speedo recoded to Kmh this morning by local Polish mechanic, who had also Googled this. Seems to be only advice on what to do regards this.

So my lovely little i3 has developed an annoying little problem - it won't let go if the charger (home charger mostly but also public ones).

Car unlocks, surround on charger changes colour, but charger stays locked in. Most times relock and unlock car and it frees, but it has slowly gotten worse over last few weeks, til this morning after 5 minutes of trying I had to resort to pulling manual override cord.

Google brings up a few similar problems, but all in America with a different connector head. Took some advice from there anyway and sprayed pin with WD40 as best I could. Anyone any experience or ideas

That sounds annoying. Can't say I've experienced anything similar. Presumably there isn't any dirt or debris around the locking mechanism?

I've had issue and think I discovered that if you unlock the car and don't unplug fast enough it locks again.

If you plug it in it goes through some kind of cycle to see if it's connected to charge point and if it's working etc so it pulls some power and after this it releases so I think it goes through this cycle if you don't unplug it quick enough after unlocking. Give it a try.

But I discovered that if you unplug quickly after unlocking it's fine.

Problem has now escalated, it's not accepting any charger. Again I think it's that the pin in now stuck up, possibly after manual release.

I've tried home and granny charger so, issue is with car. It know there's a charger there, but I can't hear pin mechanism engage and it refuses to charge (orange lights then red). Bugger.

Check it's not the evse , I had similar issue with the ABL unit, I can only use the 3 phase cable in it and at that I have to hold it downward until the car charger kicks in and the evse locks the cable once its locked at the evse it's fine but just can't use the blue lead with the abl unit now.

Nope tried a few things, and have just had a decent chat with a BMW technician through the cars system - he talked me through a few methods, but end result is pin mechanism sounds shagged and I've to go to a dealer.
