Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Would you ever share a room?

I'm in the middle of a move to Dublin and, going through listings on Daft.ie, I'm amazed by the number of people who are sharing a room or are looking for someone to share with. Heck, some rooms I came across had two and were looking for a third to move in.

So, people of AH, would you be willing to share a bedroom with someone who was essentially a complete strange?

I know I never could; regardless of what goes on in my life, my bedroom is usually my sanctum, as it were, where I can unwind and relax. Sharing a room, you just couldn't get that.

I do. I'm in college sharing with another girl. It's been grand, apart from when she gets the ride and I'm already in bed...

A room? No. A house? NO.

I'm just after getting my own gaff (thank you Germany for reasonable rent prices!) so no way in hell.

I didn't even like sharing when I lived at home. Even if I lived with a partner I'd need to have my own room in the house where I could go sometimes, even if I didn't sleep in it that much.

I did years ago when I lived in Dublin. I shared with a Spanish fella that had no English at all. We actually got in very well and by the time he went back to Spain after 6 months his English was pretty good. He also had very hot Spanish girl friends who used to call over regularly. I was allowed to ride one of them quite a few times so it was all good.

I did for three years in college, me and the room-mate got on good so it was great fun. Not everyone was so lucky with their room-mate as me though!

Something very odd about that post.

The fact that his Spanish roommate gave him permission to ride one of his friends? Or the fact it probably happened in the same bed they shared?

Weird.

Give it time...you too will know all about 'Sofa Back'. It's like tennis elbow but more back than elbow. Also, its more cos' of the sofa than tennis. Still aches, though.

I did many years ago now when I moved from Sydney to London. It was a nice area so rent was super high.

I shared with a New Zealand girl. She snored so loud that I had to make sure I fell into a deep sleep before she went to sleep or I would never get to sleep.

I often slept on the couch. Had almost forgotten about that :p

I shared a hotel room once. Never again, the snoring, the smelly feet, the farting, sleepwalking, jasus, unbelievable. I didn't even know I snored. The smelly feet I accept, grudgingly, but it's not my fault..

Wait till you get to the ones looking for someone to share a double bed. They're semi rare, but do come up.

I would never do it anyway. Can barely share an apartment.

Shared a room with my brother until I was about 9 or so. We used to kill each other to get the top bunk bed. I ****ing hated it- every morning I'd bang my head on the underside of his mattress. Now that I have the biggest room in the house though, I would'nt give it up for the world.
Double bed sprawl space for the wiiiin....

No, they were all part if the same student group. I got on well with one of his female friends and asked him to vacate our room a few times so that me and Estelle could have some "alone" time.

Shared a bedroom with my Mam and my sister up to the age of 10. 3 beds in one room and absolutely no room or privacy. Put me off sharing a room for life!

• Closed Accounts Posts: 474 ✭✭Quorum

I shared with my sister for a few years in college to save money. It was better in ways than with strangers, as we shared at home so were used to it, but was more awkward than sharing with a stranger when boyfriends came on the scene...

I have, for about half a year when I first came to Ireland.
It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had feared, I may have been lucky. That being said, I wouldn't want to do it again. I wouldn't even want to share a house with strangrs again, either. It may be an age thing.

Most people wind up sharing a room at some point. Its part of city living. The trick is to be the weird one. That way the normal idiot winds up downstairs sleeping on the couch most nights and you get a big room to grow herbal remedies in. Remember the ultra-violet light and the two bar heater.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭mackg

Numerous times with different people all friends, all cause we were broke. Don't think there is anyone I shared a room with that I wasn't better friends with after it than before. Some great times had and you really get to know people sharing a bedroom with them. Weird stuff happens but as long as you're the sort of person who can just have a laugh about it after there shouldn't be a problem.

Not a hope. Maybe if you're 10 and at a sleepover maybe but it baffles me why adults would choose to share a room, especially in college.

Good skill to have. I always get up early and usually disturb the Missus with my poor wakning technique. I will practice getting out of the bed without moving the sheet, but I reckon I will have to watch a fair bit of Youtube to get the skillset.....hang on, you meant...jasus, ya sneaky wa*ker.

Yeah I was wondering, if youre sharing a room with another guy, whats the set up? Is there a wnaking schedule...some kind of chart, like you can tell him to wake up and leave cause its your wnk-day.

Or maybe its a token system.
1 token for every 1/2 hour and you get to kick the other guy out.

What about farts...is there a system for that too?

And nudity....what if you wake up and see hes got a morning bonk going on....and what if his is bigger...that could ruin your day.

Had to do it all they way through college. Just to cut costs really. Didn't seem too strange at the time and was ok for the most part (although I was the snorer). Over 10 years out of college at this stage and would fancy doing it now, wouldn't even fancy sharing a house or apartment really. Ya get very used to having your own space.

But then when I was a kid I shared a bedroom with 2 brothers at one stage so maybe it just seemed kinda normal to me.

A mate of mine once shared a room and he said synchronized **** was the norm. Apparently your own fapping sounds will drown out the other persons so you forget that they are there. He said they left a **** bucket in the corner of the room which they emptied out once a week.

I shared a room with my friend while in college.
Generally it was fine but the nights that I would have stayed in and she would have headed out were the worst. She would come back and be loud and annoying, usually with a few people in tow. I'm quite a laid back person so I used to just let it go. But God forbid if it was the other way around. Hello **** storm.

I last did that when I was 18, and hated it. That was more than half a lifetime ago, since then I've never been that hard-up.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
Wherever you happen to be
They bring it to you—free.
