Has Vodafone just got rid of Chat customer service? It's never available.
I moved from Sim Only to PAYG so maybe that's something to do with it.

Still there but it's seriously hit n miss, and as for the my Vodaphone app it's shi*e

One reason I left Vodafone is that I was always getting charged whenever I tethered. There was no control over the live vs HS APN, and I always ended up being charged i.e. loosing credit. I got tired of contacting Support over it.

I'm about to do the same, shame as I'm very happy with the service otherwise. Who did you go with?

    Hi folks.
I know someone that has recently moved to PAYG on VF.

Just a few quick questions, as the thread has 1200+ posts now.

    1. Is the Vodafone X offer still current/valid?
    2. Is it definitely open to all, and not just students?
    3. How do you sign up - can you do it entirely on line, or do you have to go to a VF shop? Any gotchas or caveats during the signup process?
    4. Can you set it to automatically top up? How would you do this? Do you have to top up every 4 weeks (28 days?) or monthly?

    Thanks in advance,
    MtM

    1. Yes
    2. Yes, I am not student and just went back to them and got X package
    3. You will need to order a sim and then just text to setup whatever package you want to sign up for
    4. You can indeed via the app or online

No new sim needed. Just check online what the number is to text for whatever package they wish to sign up for.

My friend that is interested in the plan mentioned that she needs to send occasional international SMS text messages to friends and family in Canada, USA, Australia. Can you do this on PAYG, or "add on" a plan for texting to these countries? She seems to be under the impression that you cannot?

    Any ideas?

I think you can webtext on the Vodafone app to international numbers. Restricted to 50 a month. Or alternatively use whats app or viber

Thanks physioman. webtext might be an option.
Sadly the texts are to older folks who don't have smartphones and who can't/won't use Viber, WhatsApp, Messenger etc.

They have just buggered that up, AFAIK.
I used to use it a few times every month to text my kids in UK and Germany. Previously when I'd type my kids names in the "To" box it would fill in their number from my phone address list. Now it wants the phone number typed in.

Not sure if it was posted in the thread before but just to make people aware that for the Weekend offer there is a fair usage policy in the T&C's of 20GB per weekend which they are enforcing now.

They don't warn you when you approach this limit. If you have money on the phone they just start charging you without warning, if you don't have money they cut you off for the rest of the weekend without warning until midnight Sunday when your 30GB 'weekday' data kicks in. You can't use any of your 30GB 'weekday' data during the weekend it seems.

I don't know how they get away with advertising 20GB as 'unlimited data' for the weekend but just said I'd post FYI.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

How the regulator allowed all the phone companies to advertise "unlimited" data with actual limits attached to each offer is beyond me.
I'm in the process on contacting them about an unlimited phone data offer that is limited under the companies "fair usage" t&c's.
If a phone offer is unlimited but with a max 30GB under fair usage, then
make it unlimited up to 30gb or change it to 30GB a month, not
    unlimited.

    Hi,

Is this offer still valid? I texted unlimited to 50222 and got the message I'm sorry you seem to have the wrong key word...". When I check the website I don't see vodafone X instead just chat extra, smart extra and extra.

Jeez Vodafone are so out of touch! I'm not sure why anyone would take this over GoMo. €13 for unlimited calls, texts and data (80GB cap).

I get that Vodafone would argue they have a better network, but at least give people unlimited calls for this higher price.

Quality of the internet is not great as Vodafone or even original eir. They must have some limitations in place to accommodate all users with €9.99 deal ;)

I was with Vodafone but over the last year its speeds went to crap for me to the point I couldn't use it. The support through the app was ridiculous, I had to wait an age to get to an agent, then answer a bunch of security questions only to be told to restart my phone to see if it helps (it never did).

I switched to gomo and I have no complaints, 10 euro a month and has worked perfectly since I switched.

I find it fine on Gomo. I was previously on Vodafone. But I'll admit I'm not a heavy data user, what with having Virgin Media cable broadband at home.

I did find GoMo much better when visiting family in Cork City then Vodafone. I kept loosing any signal there. So I do think it is largely area dependent.

I'm not saying Vodafone shouldn't charge more for their overall better network. But €20 and limited calls seems very steep ask IMO.

Zero evidence that Eir have limited the network quality for GoMo users.

Never had any problems with either voice or data quality.

Signal quality is dependent on the load on the base station you are connected to.

So massive variation on location and time of connection.

Some of the plans are speed capped at 10mb/s though which isn’t great. Where I live I get around 100mb/s download speed on 4G. Wouldn’t like for that to be cut by 90% all of a sudden.

Amazing what a couple of hours will do to a story.
What a joke, either offer totally unlimited or don't!

However, despite insisting that there will be no ‘fair use’ limit applied to the plans, the company is now saying that if anyone’s use of the unlimited data is “excessive” it might restrict their usage of it.
The company has yet to define what an “excessive” usage limit for an “unlimited” data service is.
Given its stance on tethering, the operator has signalled that it will not stop someone living in an area with a strong signal replacing their home broadband service with the unlimited data service, regardless of how many 4K movies or devices use the single data source.

However, it doesn’t recommend doing this.

So.... it appears the Vodafone X Music package w/Spotify appears to be gone.... or am I missing something?

It still exists. They changed it from free with the 20 top up to an extra 5 add on combined with it, which is still cheaper than subbing to Spotify on its own. I was using Amazon music for last few months as I got 3 months of it for 1 euro, but that finished this month for me.

Luckily VF are doing a deal where they give you 5e credit if you top up by 20e in one go, so I got Spotify for free this month.

It stops the network going to sh!te. 3 are happy to take your money for unlimited 'all you can eat' data, but it will take you a fair while to 'eat same' seeing as their network is so oversubscribed and poorly managed.

It's only until May 15th, I think. But at least it's an improvement. Wasn't it Vodafone who used to do either free credit or data allowance had to be used within so many days. In other words if you wanted to take advantage of the free amount, you'd need to eat through what you paid for quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭physioman

So from my understanding if you are on the old Vodafone x weekend plan that you will remain on it unless you opt in to the new Vodafone x plan. The old plan suits me better as I use the SIM card in my router particularly at the weekends for watching movies /sport etc. I get 50mb/s + so better option for me.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,008 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

    Jeez, Vodafone!

So on their website for the new Vodafone X plan they say: 10Mbps

However on the terms on conditions for the plan says: 10MB/s

Note these are very different numbers, 10MB/s is 10 Megabytes per second or 80Mbps (Mega bits per second).

So what is it Vodafone? 10Mbps or 80Mbps

Since the Terms and Conditions say 10MB/s (80Mbps) then that is what it should legally be. If it isn't then I can see lots of complaints to Comreg and Consumer Rights Regulators.

BTW I think 10MB/s (80Mbps) is quiet acceptable, 10Mbps would be pretty rubbish and I don't know why anyone would go with Vodafone for that. It would be too slow for the premium you are paying versus Gomo/48.

Pretty embarrassing for one of Irelands largest telcos to not know their bits from their bytes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,513 ✭✭✭KildareP

I would say it's bits rather than bytes...

Also - it's not "unlimited" either, that trusty "fair use policy" applies:

    https://n.vodafone.ie/terms/bill-pay.html
Access to the Vodafone Unlimited Package:

    1. Use of, and access to, the Vodafone Unlimited Package is subject to the below obligations when using our services:
    You have an obligation to mainly use our Services for private, personal, and legitimate consumer purposes only. If Vodafone is of the opinion that your usage is contrary to these principles; for example if your usage is excessive to the extent that it is negatively impacting the Vodafone Network, or if your usage constitutes commercial or fraudulent use or is in breach of the law;
    2. Vodafone reserves the right to charge customers who continue in using the service where such usage has been deemed excessive, or to suspend, at its absolute discretion, modify or restrict use of the service or to disconnect you from the Vodafone network. Vodafone will make reasonable efforts to contact you before suspending or terminating the Services but Vodafone are not liable for any loss you may suffer through any suspension covered by this condition.
Vodafone reserves the right to send you notifications regarding your usage of your voice & data allowances as part of your package and can notify you when you reach certain thresholds and if/when you exceed your particular allowance.

Well spotted. You are correct re premium, I get a solid 10 from GoMo and it can go to 80 depending on location. If I was paying VF then I would expect premium speeds for the price.

Just got a text, says my voda x weekend is changing to voda x with unlimited 10Mbps data as a maximum speed from 6 june
    So its 10Mbps not 10mb/s
What does this mean does it mean it will average at 5Mbps if the max is 10? I think I will be jumping ship if it doesn't work for me.

That is mad so. I can't understand why anyone would stay with Vodafone so!!

And no guarantee that you would get a steady 10Mbps, because other Vodafone customers don't have this restriction and it also depends on other factors too.

I check the MyVodafone app and I note the T&C's have changed to show "max 10 Mbps" - I didn't get any notice.
I ran speedtest just now (5 p.m. on Thursday 7th) and got ping 29, U/L 7.14, D/L 13.3 so they have not throttled it - yet.
My data rates have been all over the place since the lockdown, to be honest. 10 minutes ago I could only get H+, and that gave U/L 0.42 and D/L 0.27!! Watching Virgin Player the last few nights has been torture. (I live in a granite farm building so ya gotta hang out the windows here to get decent reception)

Hey you can get a 4g antennae, just do a search on amazon. Look for omnidirectional, i think the favourite sounds like pontiy , connect to a router with 4g sim card in it with anteane port(huwaie) or alternatively a phone with a external antennae port if available

TBH, I usually below 10 where I work but the service is so reliable that I wouldn't even notice. This change isn't really a problem for me (I hope).

Just got onto their live chat and they say it's meant to be 10MB/s

That is mad so. I can't understand why anyone would stay with Vodafone so!!

And no guarantee that you would get a steady 10Mbps, because other Vodafone customers don't have this restriction and it also depends on other factors too.

I'm pretty glad I left Vodafone now!

Leaving as soon as I get better,I pay 2 PAYG every month, and SIRO ,so PAYG will be gone
