Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Right just thought i'd start a thread.

This is just a hunch at this point but a developing situation.

Currently a front is developing and representation on the radar improving over the southwest.

As temperatures fall as the night progresses as cold air moves back in from the northwest and nighttime cooling reaches its peak it is more than possible that a period of snow will push northeast through the early hours of the morning.

Look out your window during the early AM tomorrow.

Suggestion of a little snow coming into south Leinster spreading northeast.

Yes, I think snow is likely for a time in the midlands and East this morning given the parameters which are, just about, the right side of marginal. In fact with temperatures at freezing, or a little below, when precip arrives could be a supprise covering. Precipitation could last till 12pm tomorrow on the East coast but clearing most areas during sun rise.

Temperatures need around 1.25c knocked off them in the greater Dublin region (IMBY perspective!) for precip to fall as snow.

    Precip holding together reasonably well.

In my view the problem is not temperature but dew points. Temperature at DUB atm is 2C. Cold enough but preferably should be colder but not as cold as it would have to be because the wind is off shore so, if you like, like Tuesday we could get snow when we probrably should not get snow! Dew Points only reach 0C for a short time between 5 and 11am on the East coast. For my very local area I need a good bit yet knocked off the temperature and dew points being practically on the beach!

Heavy snow here for the last 45 minutes or so, it was ice pellets for a while before that. Currently 0.2c with dewpoints at -0.1c. Got around 1cm and increasing...

very slight covering now, looks great falling

Alot of the time it is a heavy fall of small flakes, very similar to footage you'd see on Documentarys made in Alaska or Siberia. The flakes don't really flutter about, like as if they're in a hurry to get down and cover the ground!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,720 ✭✭✭Hal1

Icey wet sleety stuff so not exactly snow yet. Sure it won't stick as the ground is soaked and it's not cold enough for the ground to freeze.

Left Dublin CC (Hatch Street)at 2.45am and it was mainly drizzle, dropped off one of the lads to inchicore and it was more sleet , as I moved onto the Nass Road it was moderate snow , as I got to the Newlands Cross it was heavy snow all the way down as far as junction 11.

It was sticking on the Road signs and grass and hard shoulders but the roads looked very very wet .

When I got to Junction 11 (Killcullen ) it had begun to stick on the roads and was getting really heavy .

Visibility was down to about 30-40 mtrs and it was lashing it down , got to junction 12 newbridge and I have never seen snow so heavy in my life , went up through the curragh (which was totally white) and could only see 5 mtrs in front off me .

I am the second turn off when u enter the curragh from the N7 and when I tapped the break the jeep just slid on by my turn ! Had to put the Jeep in full 4WD to get up the little hill.

It was an amazingly interesting journey home :D:D:D

Great song to listen to watching the snow falling. Fully justifies being awake at this hour experiencing the beauty when everyone else is asleep.

I don't expect any lying snow left in the morning, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

I live beside met office in glasnevin and snowing here.

Stopped snowing a while ago. Heavy fog. Temps at -0.1c and dewpoints at -0.3c. Have 2cm snow cover, but thawed from roads and paths mostly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

I have been watching and waiting for this all night on my iphone no sleep at all.

What i have falling here is strange, like ice rain..

Sleety straight falling icey flakes, leaving an icy layer on things.

Want some sneachta before it clears !

Is very light too considering the radar echoes!
