TV Show Intros That Left A Huge Impression on You...

So AHers, was there the intro theme to a TV show that really had a big impression on you when you were younger, that made you think “that’s cool, I’d really like to be a deep sea diver/doctor/copper/pilot etc” ?

For me, one TV show intro that had a massive influence on me as a young child was Channel 4’s Brookside, launched in 1982 and ran until 2003. The newly built housing estate of Brookside Close in Liverpool fascinated me at the age of 7 and I went on to specialise in housing and urban planning.

Brookside for me too. Now I'm married to my sister after I buried the neighbour under their patio.

The World at War; those faces in the flames and that music stayed with me for years after I first saw it at the age of 7 or 8.

The Episode 1 cold open was also particularly powerful...

The X-Files intro tormented me as a kid. Particularly the clip with the spirit in the hallway on CCTV. I'm nearly certain it caused some sort of anxiety problems for me.

80s BBC drama about a nuclear war, starting wit ha bomb being detonated over northern England. I was about 12 at the time, and it was the middle of the cold war. and it frightened the **** out of me that such a thing was very, very possible at any moment.

Oh and anyone who wasnt a kid in the ninetys mightn't know this one. One of the most painfully annoying intros but the first that always springs to mind when I'm all nostalgic

I loved this show as a kid. I googled it recently and was surprised to learn it ran for 18 years 1972- 1990. Canadian humour at its best. Loved that show. My favourite was hill street blues though sorry:)

Also, dogtanian and the three muskehounds... when he sliced the apple in the air. I thought it was amazing! Tried to recreate the scene aged about 6 and almost cut my hand off. I remember my mom had to use an entire packet of plasters on me and the blood just kept soaking through. idiot.

When you have that level of sheer quality in documentary making by some of the best of the time - and the 70's was a high watermark already for TV docs - and so many people still alive who could tell their stores of that war*, and Lawrence Olivier doing the voiceover? Yeah, you're kinda set.

*Put it another way the distance in time between that documentary and the end of the war is the distance between us today and 1991. Not so long ago.
