Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That first swathe of strong winds into Clare are not really appearing in the Shannon TAF. The edge of strongest winds will skirt the area so the forecast could be spot on or may need upgrading if the wind area is slightly further north.

No not unusual I would think, just an active phase of weather atm.

EDIT: misread your post, changed my reply, not unusual for this time of the year, can get a bit of every thing this month and the next ! :)

First round of strong winds has largely missed to the south, catching the Kinsale energy platform around 05-06h and heading for south Wales. A second round is indicated to hit north Kerry and west Limerick (possibly south Clare) around 1100h. Expect gusts to about 110 or possibly 120 km/hr. This will not be too strong further north according to the guidance, and the effects will then be less intense further east as the feature weakens slightly heading towards Cork-Waterford 1400h.

Gust of 59 knots at Valentia

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,238 ✭✭✭Oneiric 3

Haven't looked at other models but the EMHI has another band of strong winds running uncomfortably close to the SW/South coast again tomorrow (late morn/early afternoon). A downgrade this morning but still the potential for gust up to 60 knots off shore. Last night it has gusts exceeding 70 knots just off the Cork coast. At present, concern would be low but a slight shift northwards could have a pretty big impact.

Latest sequence shows how the strongest of the winds are occurring on the SW edge of a slack secondary trough located in and around Laois/Kilkenny. The primary low currently moving into N.Wales.

I've lived and worked in W Connemara and I have experienced its unique climate first hand. I recall one day in particular while on a day trip to Leenane just how heavy and intense the rain was for hours on end. Never seen anything like it before or since.

EDIT: 14:45 here comes the sleet! Seems to get very windy when a shower is about to come

Is that the low that Gerry Murphy was talking about on the farming weather forecast that could hit land tonight in the south that was worth watching?
