Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

To celebrate Cyber Monday this year, revolut decided to allow all new and existing customers who have not previously ordered a physical card to get their first standard card for free.

the card itself is very handy to have and can be used for multiple currencies at once so wether you’re shopping online in America or the U.K. for example or want to get Netflix cheap from turkey this card is a must have in my opinion

This is not an affiliate link and I’m not profiting in anyway just sharing

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Do you ever leave Ireland? If so then there worth it.

Technically you don't need it if you assign your virtual card to your Google pay account. You can just pay by tapping your phone.

    Simple

Do you have to pay a levy to the government like for standard debit/credit cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,289 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Yes you have to pay the Government stamp duty. On Revolut debit card it's charged 12c per ATM transaction and capped at €2.50 per year for ATM only transactions. If you use it for both ATM and card transactions then the cap is €5 just like any other debit card here. You can blame the Irish Government for that.

    https://community.revolut.com/t/irish-customers/3901

It's also worth noting that Revolut charge higher exchange rates on weekends than weekdays. They are still cheaper than your bank though and their currency exchange rates on weekdays are interbank rates so near identical to those on xe.com.

What tax ? If you don’t withdraw from an atm what tax is there to pay ??

Someone asked "Do you have to pay a levy to the government like for standard debit/credit cards?" and you replied no.

I'm simply saying that you're incorrect. There is a levy like there is for standard debit cards. You're right though, it's only for withdrawals.

Only if you withdraw cash(12c/ ATM withdrawal). As of now if you never withdraw cash you will not pay a fee/levy.

I've already an account, just thought it only worked for MasterCard. Most give it a try so.

And only if its a withdrawal within Ireland.

You can withdraw abroad with no such fee although some foreign countries have their own annoying atm withdrawal fees (USA ).

Just tap everywhere. It's what its great for :)

Trying to send MXN to someone and it doesn't give me an option on the other currency drop down.
Revolut website says 23 ccy's including MXN but on mine, it has Moroccan Dirham (MAD) instead of Mexican Peso (MXN) on the currency dropdown?
Won't let me add MXN and I've contacted Revolut but no response.
Anybody else having the same problem?

Such an amount of naysaying for something FREE!!

Cheers OP. Already have one. Revolut is ace.

Very handy to leave in the car in case the wallet get's forgotten. Tap's great too, but can't take out cash here yet.

Plus great to bring on hols or nights out. My regular cards don't allow me to disable/enable then adhoc like the revolut app does.

I paid for shipping when receiving mine and wouldn't be without it (even if i use my original virtual one more - amazon etc.)

where can I find it free, I went in on app and it said get now for €5.99?

Does Revolut support Android or Garmin Pay?

I use the card all the time, purely for the "Vaults" option. It rounds up any transaction on my card to the nearest euro, and puts it into a seperate savings account on the card. So everytime I buy something I am also putting money into savings.

Over time it builds up and is a handy way of saving for christmas etc. If you want to go all out you can double it each time as well to save quicker.

    Depends which one you get

Ok but my mastercard is with BOI and isn't suported yet I take it it's the same for revolut. That's a pity. Any Idea with Garmin Pay?

Does Revolut support Android or Garmin Pay?

Yes, it supports Google Pay, both by topping up with a separate Google Pay enabled card and for being used as a Google Pay card itself.

I have both. My Visa cards is registered in the UK so satisfies the requirements of some websites to have a UK card. The MasterCard is registered in Romania (!).

    or free - slower delivery

  • Registered Users Posts: 180 ✭✭andydurnin

    I get 3 options
    1. global express with revolute premium free
    2. express delivery €25.99
    3. standard delivery €5.99

    what do I click?

  • Registered Users Posts: 180 ✭✭andydurnin

do you need €10 in your account to get it for free?

Takes much longer than they these days, nearer 2 weeks.

I think you do need 10 euro in the account to qualify for the free card. That was the case for me when they did a similar deal last spring.

May as well add the money, because you can spend it quickly and easily at any terminal anyway.

I'm thinking of using my Revolut card to pay for a holiday in £ stg.

Total should be less than £1700. Are there any issues or extra changes I should be aware of?
I'll be topping up in euros from my card and making the payment with Revolut in £ in a single transaction.

    Thanks.

Don't think any extra charges... Bought stuff on amazon yesterday with the card came to £133.23... when using amazon pay in euros option they wanted €157.. Using my revolut card i paid €150.. So saved €7 approx

And December 11th will be a prominent day for the value of Sterling.

I’m buying quite a few high ticket items and there are no issues
If you know in advance of a big spend then keep an eye on the exchange rate and also exchange it during the week so you don’t get hit with the higher weekend rates
Sterling is up and down like a yo-yo with Brexit meetings

    Cheers, good to know.

The vote for the withdrawal agreement is meant to take place on Dec 11th so depending on the outcome, the exchange rate could change quite a bit either way.

No matter, I'll probably take the current rate and be happy with the fact it will be better than the rate offered by my bank and credit card provider.

Will this card allow you to buy on English sites that only accept uk cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭G rock

Wrong thread I'm sure, but how do you add a virtual card to Google pay?

I've tried entering the virtual card details manually, but the pay app won't add the card.

I have a physical card on order thanks to OP, so maybe I should just wait for that to arrive to start using contactless on that?

    Just a virtual?

I added details of the physical card (still in transit, so can't use chip and pin to activate contactless via NFC yet) and Google pay accepted those card details ok.

Was just curious to see if I could use the virtual card via NFC on my phone.

A strange saving I found in the US this year was tipping, when I paid with the card the transaction went through instantly but when I received the receipt there was a space for a tip, if the service was crap I tipped 10% ,but it never went through, if the service was good I tipped in cash

Regards the posts saying no point in the physical card if you have google pay and tap with the card/phone, is there not a limit of €30 or so for tapping transactions, whereas I guess with the physical card with chip and pin you can bypass that limit? Or maybe there's no limit with revolut/google pay?

    Great offer thanks op.

Used revolut as uk card on plenty sites without issue.

Currently sipping iced coffee in Gelael in downtown Jakarta. Have used revolut for past few weeks and is very reliable and means I don’t carry wads of cash. Also avoids bank fees in transactions.

One issue with atm solved in 15 mins with revolut chat.

Have advised others to get them.
