Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm curious. Do you think that describing travellers as "a plausible call for ethnic cleansing" is a legit opinion?

People use the term a bit too loosely, but this is actually a perfect example of a straw man argument.

Some more AH threads need to be moved here en masse or it'll never work.

We're looking at threads on a case by case basis. Moving threads from AH > CA isn't an urgent mod action, compared to, for example, nuking a spammer. There is latitude for discussion between the mods on whether a thread should remain in AH, or whether it would be better placed in CA.

Yeah, does seem very.......inconsistent. Then again, if they move much more there would probably be very little left in AH

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

But sure wasn't that the complaint? AH being taken over by the "serious" or non-fun threads.

Either move them all and see whether AH stands on its own feet these days, or risk confusing things even more.

I think this is where all the banished people have coagulated.

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

I read recently that we pay something like €5 billion on debt servicing per annum - can someone tell me where that €5bn ends up? As in, whose pockets it ends up in.

We (via the NTMA) borrow money every year to pay for running the country. These are bought as either long term bonds (for long term financing) or short term bonds (for general cash flow).
The majority of government bonds are held by overseas traders but much of it is held within the country.
There is a cost to issuing these bonds!

So the €14 million per day interest on government debt goes to bond holders?

So the €14 million per day interest on government debt goes to bond holders?

Approximately €130 billion of Irish government debt is owed to bondholders. In addition, the government owes about €40 billion in EU loans, €4 billion in a UK bilateral loan, €17 billion to investors in state savings schemes, and €11 billion in other short-, medium-, and long-term debt.

    Right.

Have perused and studied the forum since inception.

For what it's worth, the Current Affairs / IMHO amounts to.........

    A Pyrhic Victory.
Essentially, the Current affairs forum is a copy of the After Hours forum. But certain unsavory things are stated in a more guarded and genteel fashion.

Definitely, a good deal more posts get reported by other upset posters in CA threads that they don't like. This might be fine for threads in Leaving Cert and Secondary Education but it just adds to the reason that I just don't see the need for CA forum.

    End of Spiel.

Whereas I see the value in the CA threads. More leeway given to posters than the politics forum, and usually less childish/immature posts than in AH.

Donegal's next TD. I felt so embarrassed for Ireland watching this. Apprantly a mixture of Liberals, atheists, Zionists & Jihadis are coming to destroy right-wing Irish Nationalism (good) and this is the only man who can stop it - some conspiracy nutter.

I watched more videos of this Donegal TD hopeful, and he seems like a nutter.

He's a anti-Vaciner, believes Dev was a British spy most of his life, and he's a extreme right wing nationalist.

Some of his recent videos harassing people.

Hardly shocking his best mate is Dan Healy Rae

And here he shows his racist guff, calling immigrants invaders.

Tulsi Gabbard has filed a defamation suit against Hillary Clinton.

As part of the filing she wants us to know that if she winds up "Clintoned", it wasn't suicide.

This is pretty ballsy & not-so-subtly calls Clinton a killer.

    Fake news.

    Here's the document.

Item 5 is there on the bottom of page 2, but the second sentence about suicide is not there, or anywhere else in the document.

    C'mon! Really?

#"Ibeliveher" was what was trending in that period of time.

I'm still at a loss as to why the actual female witness of the events of that night was ignored /not supported by other women.

TBF to you, which "Her" are you referring to? I don't want to jump the gun here. Maybe you are aghast at the Female witness (who said she saw no rape taking place ) being dismissed by those hash-tag warriors..

I was referring to a thread on Boards.ie discussing a series of tweets where women wrote about being sexually harassed/abused on the Irish comedy circuit - this then broadened out as more and more women tweeted their experiences, and someone made a reference to an unnamed political figure.

The general theme in the Boards.ie thread when I looked in there was posters did not believe the tweets - hence #dontbelieveher.
That theme may have changed - I don't know. I didn't go back in.

12 posts in and no one has blamed the muslims, travellers, leftists, rightists (is that even a word?) Centrists, soros, the brits, the RA or whatsherface o'doherty.

I could get used to this

this sounds like exactly the type of left wing muslim apologist post that a centrist right wing British Soros shill shinner ra head Gemma supporter would say.

When 2 US astronauts undocked from the ISS in the SpaceX Dragon capsule this weekend and splashed down to Earth, they carried a US flag that had been brought up to the ISS in 2011, during the last mission of the Shuttle program, STS-135. The flag originally flew on STS-1, the first flight of the shuttle program on April 12, 1981. It's been up there for 9 years waiting for the day a US based mission would retrieve it. NASA at the moment hopes the flag's next relay stop will be the moon.
