Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is the 4500U worth the extra €50 over the 4300U? It'd mainly be used for browsing, no image or video editing, and the only games played would be the Facebook kind.

Is the 3.2mm screen ok , what’s the difference between this and the thinner one.

    475euro for
    4500 Ryzen
    16gig ram
    256 ssd
    70kw battery
    Upgraded charger
    Upgraded wireless
    Backlit keyboard

    That all good?

The screen will be more than good enough. The rest of the spec you selected is spot on. Pretty much same as mine (I did throw in the touch screen option - a gimmick I'm sure I'll never use - and finger print scanner)

For what you intend to use it for, the 4300 won't even break a sweat. EVER.

Should I select the dummy drive then for the second one select my preference like 256gb?

Will that let me increase capacity later on?

If you select NONE rather than DUMMY in the first selection, it will allow selection of a better 70wh battery

Windows 10 keys can be bought legit very cheaply online

Lenovo are charging €100 for the pleasure of having it pre-installed

    Or there is always Linux

That’s from the Irish rewards Site with the e-coupon applied

Took a while but it eventually excepted the email code for that last 10%

Got it. And does that still allow the install of a second drive later on?

This seems like a very good price for this spec machine, with the 10% discount on the Irish reward store.

If you want the metal palm rest, you have to chose the higher spec model from the default series selections. Then customize it as you want. I did it both ways, and the only difference is you get the palm rest option on the higher spec selection (even though both customized specs & the prices end up the same).

Can someone point me in the direction of a review for this specific model laptop? I think I am looking at the correct model review, but I made a complete balls of buying an ASUS the last time, because I was looking at the wrong model :P

Also, I specd it out pretty well, but am I missing anything?

tbh im not sure you're going to get a review, i was poking around and these seem like fairly new configurations

that spec is plenty powerful and quick for pretty much most tasks that arent heading into specialised areas tho imo

To be honest, the laptop is specd to a higher requirement than is needed, but I am within the budget I was given! I generally try to future proof as best as possible. I have my own laptop for years and its still going strong.

Thanks Snoopsheep, for the initial recommendation, and the link above.

Is there a specific way of getting a laptop, customising it and proceeding without an error

If i use a URL from here it brings me to the serious 5, I can make a few changes and then boom error

If i go and use a fresh URL the code to enter doesnt work,

    What am i missing:confused:

For anyone thinking about cancelling and reordering a different spec, I cancelled an order for another model from Lenovo on Tuesday (ordered Mon night) and got confirmation of the cancellation and refund this morning. Just waiting on the cash to come through from Paypal to my current account. I ordered through the Irish site and rang the the number through the helpline, a reseller called Digital River to cancel.

I managed to get it to work.

It was all about which various parts I had customised with.

It wouldn't let me use the code with the 256GB drive. With anything else it would allow me to use the code, but not this.

I upgraded to the 512GB one and it worked.

I decided to mess around a bit and eventually got to a point where it worked with the 256GB drive, as long as I didn't have "Multi-Touch" keyboard.

Weird, but worked in the end.

    Thanks a mil OP

Are there any potentially good bargains on desktop PCs? I've had a quick look, and it seems that, while there are desktops you can customize, none seem to be available without a Windows license - which is a big saving here.

It might be worth cancelling actually, depending on which codes you used.....Are they freely available?

    Put in 8GB RAM anyway.

And how much storage you need?

Take out the HDD and double the SSD maybe and get the bigger battery?? Up to you their.

Ryzen 3 is fine, how much more for R5, future proof it?

I purchased the IdeaPad 5 14" a few days ago (despite being only 1.6" less diagonal, the footprint is significantly smaller so it'll be a lot more convenient for throwing in a backpack)

Processor - Intel Core i5-1035G1 Processor (1.00GHz, up to 3.60GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 6MB Cache)
    Operating System - Free-DOS
    Operating System Language - Free-DOS
    Memory - 16GB DDR4 3200MHz Onboard
    Hard Drive - 512GB Solid State Drive, M.2 2280, PCIe-NVMe, TLC
    Display - 14.0" FHD (1920x1080), IPS, Anti-glare, 2.4mm Thickness, 300nits, Narrow bezel
    Graphic Card - NVIDIA GeForce MX350 GDDR5 2GB 64bits
    Color - Graphite Grey
Keyboard - Keyboard Backlit Iron Grey English (UK)
Camera - 720p HD Camera with Array Microphone
    Surface Treatment - Anodizing
    Palmrest - Metal
    Fingerprint Reader - Fingerprint Reader
    Battery - 3 Cell Li-Polymer Internal Battery, 57Wh
Power Cord - 95W AC Adapter (3pin)-UK (USB Type C)
    Wireless - Wi-Fi 6 2x2 AX, Bluetooth Version 5.0 or above
    Language Pack - Publication-English
    Warranty - 1 Year Courier or Carry-in

MX350 should be about 60-70% better GPU perf than the best Ryzen 4*** IGPU, although the battery life will be a bit less. sRGB screen, a samsung SSD drive (the m2.2280 is equivalent to a 970 pro apparently) and an all metal construction are nice too.

Ended up being €589.17 & the €3.80 parcel motel charge.
