That is why they should switch to mandatory sentences for crimes and take away the discretion from judges. Because the judges abuse that right and not for the good of the public. IMHO

Anyone read the story about Veronica guerins brother a few weeks ago been caught with 1000 of child abuse images?

    It was buried very quickly.

Seems a lot worst than this story.

He was granted bail on his own bond of €100, with no conditions and no cash lodgement required. He had also been granted free legal aid after the court heard he was retired.

    Un****ing believe

Julius Medeiros (55) said he had been sent a text message asking him if he wanted to see the video and he had replied yes
As you do, when you're a pedo
A follow up search found a second video on another phone and a third video on a computer at Medeiros's home
As you have, when you're a pedo

Why is it not reported WHO sent the video?
Was it three separate videos on the devices, or the same video replicated over?

Literally every news outlet reported it.

You are linking to one in your post.

It’s like The authorities only pay lip service to child protection in this country.

Something has to be done about Irish law and the judiciary.

Any form of child abuse should carry a mandatory sentence. None of this suspended sentence bullsh

    "Suspended Sentence" Nolan.

    What did you expect?

People shouldn't use the term "banana republic" when they don't know what it means.
What did they fight for freedom for to then let criminals walk all over us....

The legal system is a joke, the judges, the barrister, the solicitors etc.... All in it for the money....

We need another prison built and fast.....

Am I not allowed to my opinion??
He asked two questions - can you clarify how he implied that you're not allowed to your opinion and who's not allowing you?

It time for a change in this country. Place is being run into the ground. It's a race to the bottom and I for one have no idea why?
A culture of scum having the upper hand has been created - that's why.

Someone will come along and say we are all responsible or some such. Not true - only policy makers are.

We cannot predict the future but they say that the first sign of madness is to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

We get the government we vote in.... they make the legislation (policy) and the legislators nominate the judges.

Newstalk had people on talking about the increase in cases around viewing child abuse imagery. They mentioned that Gardai are getting much better at detecting but of course they failed to mention anything about the constant suspended sentences handed down for viewing material.

Not to mention the massive backlog in the forensic analysis of computer drives due to skilled staff shortages.

They still rely on the likes of the FBI and chance.

They have about 30 individuals working in their tech division who are snowed under with back log.

I'm new to this thread and I want to make a suggestion about the language people use when talking/writing about the images and videos featuring children being sexually abused and raped. Please stop calling it child pornography... that implies that these children are in some way consenting or participating of their own free will, just like the adults who do participate in the pornography industry.

    They are not.

Let's start calling it what it is: images and videos of children being sexually abused and raped. Not any kind of porn. Using terms like child pornography is making it sound like it's a special sub section of a perfectly acceptable type of entertainment.

It is guaranteed that every single person who has posted on this thread (including me) has friends or family who look at this savagery regularly. It is not very unusual. It is just so bloody disappointing.

She noted that loneliness led Fanning to go online at the time while he was recuperating from a heart attack. A psychological assessment places him at a moderate to low risk of re-offending.
Judge Codd said a Probation Service officer had accepted his expressions of remorse and shame as genuine and noted he now acknowledged the distress and harm his behaviour could cause to children.

What does that even mean? He only expressed remorse because he got caught.

I don’t know about anyone else but when I was recuperating from surgery, I didn’t say to myself. I know. I’ll ask some girls for naked pics. THATS BECAUSE IM NOT A SICK ****ING BASTARD! why are the courts continuously making excuses for these sick and perverted people.

The man convicted in the OP is a Dublin Bus driver on route 155
When Dublin Bus found out they fired him, he then appealed this at a independent tribunal, he won and Dublin Bus where forced to give him his job back.
Serious anger at this among drivers
He no doubt will be alone with children on the bus
The NBRU union are active on twitter ask them for the story, lets see what they reply
He is back driving the 155 route, new drivers have to be Garda vetted before they get the job, seems it does not apply here

Seems like in this country you could burn down an orphanage with everyone inside, but so long as you get a few friends to give positive references, you will get a light sentence. That has to stop.

NONCE's where always the lowest of the low, totally ostracised, not anymore it seems.
The conspiracy theory that the elite are into Paedophilia, every year it moves a little closer to conspiracy fact, is there any other explanation for such lenient sentencing

1916 fighters for our freedom would and will be rolling in their graves ...

Fook the British legal system which we abide by....

I'm sick to death of how well protected the scum are....

Only had a century to do something about it.
    Who's fault is that?

Now if only someone could come up with a way to harness the renewable energy of rotating freedom fighters.

    100%^^^^^

    it is child sex abuse

And can those who have used the words out of context please amend the words to correctly reflect the crime committed and ask any news paper outlet to stop minimising the crime committed by using terms for "consensual" adult acts.

If there is a child involved there cannot be consent, ever.
