Follow a couple of football journos on Twitter that are in MArseilles, feel sorry for them, must be pretty scary.
Been some awful fights going on, just have search on Twitter for marseilles and you'll find a ton of images/videos.

I don't understand why English fans have to act like that. Imagine saving up your money for months and bringing your kid along and having to put up with gobsh!tes throwing chairs and fighting and then the riot police dishing out tear gas like it's confetti
I think they're gonna have to bring in a booze ban or something, I know there's no drink allowed in Lens where they play Wales, but it's 2 days straight of fighting with locals and police now.
Have to say I'm pretty happy we're not in their group as I'm heading over tomorrow

And, yea, I know many will say they were provoked but that's not really an excuse. Like, why go on holidays to watch football and just get in fights, I just can't fathom the logic of them, and I know it's a minority too, but it's a big minority

From what I have read, it's not just the English fans today/tonight. So it's not quite fair to paint it as being solely them. But yes, they are in the mixer.

Who is the bookmaker? Just so myself and everyone else can boycott the shysters if that's the lame shyster excuse they are peddling.

When I asked for the rules shown that a penalty doesn't count as a score, they came back after a while to say I did win after all....

Come on youoooooo boyz in green, come on you boyz in green

I (honestly) think they'll do well to finish in the top four in their group.

I know and you're right I shouldn't just pick them out, it's been a mixture of locals, as well as Russians and history shows us that French police consistantly do target travelling Englich club fans. But saying that as well, most of the stuff I've seen videoed has been the England fans.

Hopefully the situation improves, like, it can't continue like this anyway.

It sure can't but it's looking grim.

Funny thing about Payet is he's so old. He feels like a newly discovered young talent.

Lol 29. Ancient. Does it every week in training

I thought the English police had dished out travel bans to hooligans and took their passports during these events? I know the Russians have a much worse problem with hooliganism and the Brits are often targets for these sorts of things, but by any measure this points to some massive balls up by the English coppers, they've had a fairly good lid this sort of thing for a while before now.

Fully agree, the good thing is though, everyone is being filmed and when they do return they'll be given travel bans.

    This just popped up too:
Video: England fans sing 'No Surrender to the IRA' outside Irish Bar in Marseille

In an Irish pub, singing about the IRA, wtf is wrong with these idiots. Seems to stupid that they still sing crap like that, Christ almighty, there's been peace for so long now but certain elements just love to stir sh!t and cause trouble.

He was just plying his trade with that small southern french team in that small town Marseille, perhaps you haven't heard of it. Just won the league in this country called France a few years ago with another quaint village team called Lille.

Fair enough, but I'd wager that 95% of the people watching the game tonight had never heard of him before he joined West Ham. The top of Ligue Un isn't exactly prime water cooler talk around these parts

Fair fncks to Payet, he's got great technique, two footed, plays like he loves it, what does it matter who knew him when, he lit up that match all on his own and singlehandidly dragged France from a serious potential baiting. His technique is fantastic, when you see his body contort to make that shot for the second French goal there was no other way but the ball going in the back of the net. Can't wait to see more of the man in this tournament

Wouldn't say they find it easy to learn new songs, in fairness.

Eamo gets in his first 'baby' of the tournament.

They seem in better form now then they did before the game.

Probably had a few garguls watching it.

Actually he came to Lille the year after they won the league, Payets never won a thing, no need to be so condescending

Game 2 coming up Albania v Switzerland! Game of the tournament so far for me as Brian Kerr will be commentating. The two Xhaka brothers competing against each other is the first time this sort of scenario has happened

Didn't the Boateng (half) brothers play each other at the world cups 2 & 6 years ago? Germany v Ghana.

Jerome for Germany and Kevin-Prince for Ghana.

Ah right, I was only reading about it today myself and it seems Granit would have been happier playing for Albania

I knew they'd have to pay you unless your bet specifically mentioned the goal being scored from open play. That'd mean that goals from free kicks wouldn't have counted either, which is ridiculous.

    Well done! :)
